International flight from USA to Quito, Ecuador. Meet your English-speaking guide outside customs that will provide private transportation to Hotel Vieja Cuba. Settle into your hotel room in the heart of Ecuadors capital city, Quito. Hotel Vieja Cuba is a charming boutique hotel set in a gorgeous colonial style house with 26 rooms. Quito sits an altitude of 9,350 feet and is a UNESCO world heritage site rich with culture, historic buildings, and friendly people. Day 2: Sunday June 1, 2014


Following breakfast at the hotel, pack your bags and head to the Amazon! The group will fly from Quito to Coca Ecuador (30 minute flight) and then hop aboard a boat down the Napo River. Finally arrive at Sani Lodge deep in the heart of the jungle. Sani Lodge is truly a one of a kind ecolodge dedicated to ecotourism, environmental conservation, and community projects in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Sani Lodge is owned and operated by members of the Sani community, meaning that with their extensive knowledge of the Amazon wildlife and biodiversity they can give Sani Lodge guests the true experience of an Ecuadorian Amazon jungle tour. Scan the horizon and you will probably notice the yellow banded chest of an Aracari or hear the hoarse whisper of the Hoatzin. Listen to the frogs croak, the birds sing and enjoy the monkeys playing in the trees above. Arrival at the ecolodge by mid-afternoon in time to explore the jungle and settle in to the surroundings. Day 3: Monday June 2, 2014


Today we provide much needed medical and dental care to the Sani Community. Medical/Dental care will begin around 0830 and end by 1600 each day. Free time in the afternoon and evening to participate in guided tours of the jungle, fishing in the Napo River, or bird watching. Participate in a night time creepy crawly walk in the jungle or go cayman watching; watch the sunset over the beautiful river, or enjoy a glass of wine at the lodge. (B, L, D) Lodging: Sani Lodge

Day 4: Tuesday June 3, 2014

Day 6: Thursday June 5, 2014


Take your final pictures of the monkeys because we depart the jungle today. Next we go to Mindo Ecuador for some fun and adventure. Mindo is approximately 2 hours from Quito and we will travel via private bus. The area boasts one of the greatest concentrations of bird species in the world with between 350-400 species as well as 40 species of butterflies and 170 species of orchids. Mindo is best known for its adventure ecotourism including zip lining over the jungle canopy and white water rafting. For the less adventurous, enjoy the butterfly farm. Day 7: Friday June 6, 2014


Free day to go zip lining, white water rafting, bird watching, hiking, and visit the butterfly farm in Mindo. Explore the quaint shops and restaurants in Mindo. All activities will be done as a group. (B) Lodging: Sachatamia Rainforest Reserve

Day 8: Saturday June 7, 2014


On the way back to Quito, explore Mitad del Mundo (The Middle of the World) monument and museum and take your photograph in two hemispheres. On our guided tour, we will participate in science experiments only possible because of gravitational forces present in this location. Next, visit an artisanal market in Quito where you can

purchase gifts and souvenirs from the trip. Here you will find hand woven scarves, sweaters, and rugs as well as hand-made jewelry and art. Finally, we will travel downtown Quito and visit the Presidential Palace and majestic Catholic cathedrals. The trip concludes with a farewell dinner at an elite restaurant in downtown Quito. Day 9: Sunday June 8, 2014


Private transportation from the hotel to the airport for international flight back to the USA.

Please noteThis price does not include international airfare. Each passenger is responsible for booking their own international flight. Please verify that your flight times fall within the scheduled itinerary above before you book the flight. Volunteers who leave early will not receive a discount/refund on unused portions of the itinerary. Volunteers who arrive early (before the itinerary begins) or stay after the itinerary ends are responsible for all their expenses, transportation costs and lodging that do not fall within the itinerary. No refunds will be issued if passenger cancels or withdraws from the trip 60 days prior to departure. Final payment for the trip is due 60 days prior to departure. Please note that use of the native guides (Effy Lopez and the guides at Sani Lodge) are hired for the groups use and not for individual use. They are not subject to being subcontracted for side trips during any of the itinerary days. Ecuador uses American Money. No need to exchange money.

Payments can be made toward the trip rather than paying in one lump sum. Payments can be made in tax year 2013 and 2014 in order to take tax deductions in both years if so desired.

A 500 dollar non-refundable deposit is due by January 6, 2014 to reserve your spot on the trip.
The trip cost of $2,500 is tax deductible and a receipt will be provided for tax purposes. To determine if other trip costs such as international flight, travel vaccines, and travel insurance are tax deductible, consult your personal accountant.
