Name of the experiment Turbidity of water Aim To determine the turbidity of a given sample of water Principle of Measurement This

his method is based on a comparison of the intensity of light scattered by the sample under defined conditions with the intensity of light scattered by a standard reference suspension under the same conditions. The higher the intensity of scattered light, the higher the turbidity. Formazin polymer is used is used as the primary standard reference suspension. The turbidity of a specified concentration of formazin suspension is defined as 4000 NTU. Apparatus Required Turbidity meter consisting of a light source for illuminating the sample and one or more photoelectric detectors with a readout device to indicate intensity of light scattered at 900 to the path of incident light. Reagents required Standard formazin suspension (4000 NTU, 100 NTU and 50 NTU) Procedure Calibrate the turbidity meter with standard Formazin solutions. Thoroughly shake sample and wait until the air bubbles disappear and pour sample into turbidity meter tube. Read turbidity directly from instrument display. Results: Significance:
