EROSION A combination of processes or events by which materials of the earths surface are loosened, dissolved, or worn away and transported by natural agents (such as water, wind or gravity). SEDIMENTATION The addition of soil particles to water bodies by natural and human related activities. Sedimentation often decreases water quality and can accelerate the aging process of lakes, rivers, and streams. STORMWATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN This Plan includes all measures planned to prevent stormwater contamination, control sedimentation and erosion during construction, and comply with the requirements of the Clean Water Act STORMWATER RUNOFF Water from precipitation that flows over surfaces into sewer systems or receiving water bodies. All precipitation that leaves project site boundaries on the surface is considered stormwater runoff.

Locate a new site for the school because this one is ineligible for LEED certification A. Perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the site

Schools may not be built on former landfill sites, so this project needs to find a new site. Environmental Site Assessment (Schools) 8. Key Terms

Required EP : No

BROWNFIELD A site whose use may be complicated by the presence of possible presence of hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant. IN SITU REMEDIATION Treatment of contaminants using technologies such as injection wells or reactive trenches. These methods employ the natural hydraulic gradient of groundwater and usually require only minimal disturbance of the site. REMEDIATION The process of cleaning up a contaminated site by physical, chemical or biological means. Remediation processes are typically applied to contaminated soil and groundwater. SITE ASSESSMENT An evaluation of a sites aboveground and subsurface characteristics, including its structures, geology, and hydrology. Site assessments are typically used to determine whether contamination has occurred, as well as the extend and concentration of any release of pollutants. Information generated during a site assessment is used to make remedial action decisions.

Definition of 100-year flood line

1 point EP : No

Definition of 100-year flood line The flood having a one percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. This is the regulatory standard also referred to as the "100-year flood." The base flood is the national standard used by the NFIP and all Federal agencies for the purposes of requiring the purchase of flood insurance and regulating new development. Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) are typically shown on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). You could use the flood-plane level of the worst recorded flood on records. This will be worse than the FEMA statistical 100-year flood.

Asbestos can qualify, lead may not Asbestos and other non-soil contamination in an existing structure may also qualify for brownfield redevelopment. An asbestos plan should be developed by a qualified environmental professional and documented according to EPA and state regulations. Having lead paint on walls in the building is not a sufficient threshold to earn this credit. The physical site must have been contaminated and need remediation in some way in order to earn the credit. Actual remediation not always necessary You can occasionally earn this credit even if no actual remediation is performed, because brownfields are often designated as such simply because of the perception that contamination is present due to a sites history of use, abandoned or derelict condition, adjacent industrial sites. If investigation finds that contamination is not present despite the brownfield determination, you can still earn the credit.

Phase II ESA Information Collected Depends largely on the specific site. Tests can include soil sampling, groundwater and surface water testing, air quality assessment, asbestos testing and waste materials/storage tank investigation. Any potential hazard noted in the Phase I ESA should be further investigated and evaluated in the Phase II ESA. Procedure Appropriate site testing is performed in a series of iterations as necessary and the results are analyzed by an environmental consultant. These rounds of testing and analysis continue until the user is satisfied with the degree of certainty in the consultant's conclusions and can use the results to make a decision.

A project building on a previously undeveloped site has no setback and will have no open space around the building. What is true about the ability of the project team to achieve Sustainable Sites Credit, Site DevelopmentProtect or Restore Habitat? If the project also achieves Development Density and Community Connectivity, a vegetated roof surface can be installed to help achieve the credit. The project cannot achieve the credit The project can achieve that credit by restoring vegetation in a neighboring area if the restoration is at least 2x the building footprint. B. C.

D.

The project cannot earn the credit because the site was originally a Greenfield site, and the building plan has a zero-lot-line (no setback). Since the building consumes the entire site, no habitat can be protected or restored. A previously developed site could use a green roof to help earn this credit in combination with SS Credit 2, but the question states that it is an undeveloped site.

HARDSCAPE The inanimate elements of the building landscape. Examples include pavement, roadways, stone walls, concrete paths and sidewalks, concrete, brick and tiled patios. OPEN SPACE Open space areas are typically defined by local zoning requirements. If local zoning requirements do not clearly define open space, it is defined for the purpose of LEED calculations as the property area minus the development footprint; it must be vegetated and pervious, with exceptions only noted in the credit requirement section. Only ground areas are calculated as open space. Wetlands and natural ponds can count to open space if the side slopes are gradual enough and vegetated. For projects that earn credit SSc2, open space also includes non-vehicular, pedestrian oriented hardscape spaces and vegetated roof areas. Allotted open space must remain open for the life of the project.

Harvesting Stormwater 1. Water Budget How will the harvested water be used and when will it be needed? (look at monthy precipitation and monthly uses) 2. Drawdown Storage system must include system to release water between storm events for the design storage to be available. 3. Drainage area The size and permeability of the area draining to the storage determines how much water will be available for harvesting (vegetated roofs reduce volume of runoff collected) 4. Conveyance system Reused stormwater and graywater systems must not be connected to other potable water systems. Pipes and storage systems should be clearly marked. 5. Pretreatment Screens or filters may be used to remove debris and sediment from runoff and minimize pollutants 6. Pressurization Use of harvested rainwater may require pressurization. Most irrigation systems require at least 15psi to function properly. Stored water has 0,43 psi per foot of water elevation. Pressurization systems consist of a pump, pressure tank and filter.

Green roofs can reduce peak runoff rates on developed sites. However, the volume reduction potential of any green roof will depend on its moisture-retention capacity, which depends on the soil profile. One storm may saturate the soil, leading to a conventional amount of runoff resulting from a second storm in close succession.

EMISSIVITY The ratio of the radiation emitted by a surface to the radiation emitted by a black body at the same temperature HEAT ISLAND EFFECT The absorption of heat by hardscapes, such as dark, nonreflective pavement and buildings, and its radiation to surrounding areas. Particularly in urban areas, other sources my include vehicle exhaust, air conditioners, and street equipment; reduced air flow from tall buildings and narrow streets exacerbates the effect. IMPERVIOUS MATERIALS Surfaces with a perviousness of less than 50% and promote runoff of water instead of infiltration into the subsurface. Examples include parking lots, roads, sidewalks, and plazas. INFRARED (OR) THERMAL EMITTANCE A parameter between 0 and 1 (or 0% and 100%) that indicates the ability of a material to shed infrared radiation (heat) the wavelength range for this radiant energy is roughly 5 to 40 micrometers. Most building materials (including glass) are opaque in this part of the spectrum and have an emittance of roughly 0.9. Materials such as clean, bare metals are the most important exceptions to the 0.9 rule. Thus, clean, untarnished galvanized steel has low emittance, and aluminum roof coatings have intermediate emittance levels.

EMISIVIDAD

Heat Island Effect Roof 7. Practice Question

1 point EP : Yes

For option three, use the equation in the requirements. (Area Roof Meeting Minimum SRI / 0.75) + (Area of Vegetated Roof/0.5) >= Total Roof Area Start by identifying roof area that qualifies. The vegetated roof area (4,500 SF). The white cement tile (3,000 SF) A steep sloped roof that qualifies must have an SRI >=29. This one is 73 and qualifies. The grey asphalt does not qualify because the SRI is too low. Skylights and mechanical equipment are excluded from the calculations in this credit (See SS Credit 7.2 Calculations). Now plug in the qualifying areas into the calculations: (3000 SF of white cement tile) / 0.75 + (4,500 SF of vegetated roof / 0.5) >= Total Roof Area 4,000 SF + 9,000 SF = 13,000 SF weighted average compliant roof area The conclusion of the equation is not needed for this question, but the total roof area would be all areas excluding the skylights and equipment. 4,500 SF + 3,000 SF + 7,000 SF = 14,500 SF This project would not earn a point because the weighted average of 13,000 SF is not greater than the total roof area of 14,500 SF.

This may be challenging for projects that for cultural or aesthetic reasons require lightning such as casinos, hotels, theatres, commercial complexes etc. LEED requires the LEED project boundary to be used, however for urban projects with a zero lot line, the curb can be used as the boundary instead. In Core and Shell Projects, the lighting requirements are limited to the core and shell lighting. School projects must include curfew timers and controls in the design of sports field lighting, providing automatic shutoff no later than 11 p.m.

FOOTCANDLE (FC) A measure of light falling on a given surface. One foot-candle is defined as the quantity of light falling on a 1 square foot area from a 1 candela light source at a distance of 1 foot (which equals 1 lumen per square foot) Foot-candles can be measured both horizontally and vertically by a foot-candle meter or light meter. FULL CUTOFF LUMINAIRE A luminaire that has zero candela intensity at an angle of 90 degrees above the vertical axis (nadir or straight down) and at all angles greater than 90 degrees from straight down. Additionally the candela per 1000 lamp lumens does not numerically exceed 100 (10%) at an angle of 80 degrees above nadir. This applies to all lateral angles around the luminaire. HORIZONTAL FOOTCANDLES Horizontal foot-candles occur on a horizontal surface. They can be added together arithmetically when more than one source provides light to the same surface
