In current scenario it is self-evident that knowledge of computers and IT is fundamental to the practice of general management. IT has become a common and indispensable tool for modern businesses. It integrates various business processes that help in organizational growth. The emergence of a global economy, transformation of industrial economies, business enterprises and the emergence of digital firms make information systems an indispensable tool of business. IT is used extensively for decision-making, ease of operations, communication and record keeping and for obtaining higher productivity from the system in which it is put to use. The rapid and widespread use of computers and information technology has generated a need for highly trained managers proficient in various business functions. These information technology specialists include business analysts and data communication analysts. The course is designed to help the students understand the emerging technological issues in business context so that students can effectively manage business processes in organizations. The course aims to sensitize the students with the role of IT in terms of value addition it provides to the business, change the way work/process is done, generation of newer communication methods, and the change in the very structure of organization. Learning Outcomes After undergoing this course, the participants will be able to: 1. Understand basic concepts relevant to information technology; 2. Use appropriate office tools to support their editing, calculative and presentation needs; 3. Understand network and collaboration as business solution; 4. Understand social computing and its importance & usage in business

Description %Weightage There will be three announced quizzes. The quiz will 15 consist of MCQs. All the three scores will be considered for assessment. Assignments /Project Students will be required to complete an assignment 15 as a part of their individual assessment component. The assignment will comprise of exercises to be accomplished using MS-Word, MS-Excel, MSPowerPoint and/or conceptual inputs. MS-Office Efficiency Test Student will be evaluated individually and/or groups 10 for their efficiency in MS-Office. It is based on questions asked during the placement process by various recruiters. Mid Term Examination This will consist of cognition and application based 20 situational questions coupled with small analysis. End Term Examination This will consist of case study and application based 40 situational questions wherein students will reflect and correlate their learning with problems in question. Exemption or deferral of a quiz, assignment is not permitted. Any student who either misses a quiz, or does not hand in an assignment, will have zero marks for that component. There will be no makeup provisions. In case of absence from mid-term or end-term, the students absence will be treated as per examination norms. 2

It is expected that all students will make a significant contribution to the group assignment wherever required, failing which, marks may be awarded accordingly. Assignment not submitted on the due date will not be graded.
