Legal notices
Concept of the warning notices This manual contains notices which you should observe to ensure your own personal safety, as well as to protect the product and connected equipment. Notices relating to your personal safety are highlighted by a warning triangle; notices relating to property damage only do not have a warning triangle. Warnings in descending order according to the degree of danger are shown as follows. DANGER indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken. WARNING indicates that death or severe personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION with a warning triangle indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION without a warning triangle indicates that damage to property can result if proper precautions are not taken. NOTICE indicates that an undesirable result or status can occur if the relevant notice is ignored. If more than one degree of danger is present, the notice representing the highest degree of danger will be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a warning triangle may also include a warning relating to property damage.

Description
Status LEDs CP 5711 hardware provides the user with five LEDs for diagnostics. The LEDs have the following labeling and function: Labeling PWR USB (green LED) Function LED on: The CP is connected to an active USB connector LED off: There is no connection to an active USB connector PWR EXT (green LED) LED off: An external power supply is connected to the CP; the power supply is solely via the active USB interface LED on: Additional power supply via the external power source +24 V DC LNK/SF (green/red LED) The LED is lit green when nodes are detected on PROFIBUS (link status). The LED is lit red if errors occur on the CP 5711. The following situations can arise: LED lit red permanently: The CP 5711 is defective. LED flashes red quickly: Exception status (unexpected runtime error) LED flashes red slowly: USB problem LED flashes red cyclically (3 times fast, long break): Bus problem You will find the possible causes in the message box that appears on the screen. If the LED is neither lit/flashes red nor green, the CP 5711 has not detected a BUS node.
42
Description
Function This LED flashes when the CP is actively involved in data traffic. This LED is used to identify the CP 5711 and to distinguish it from other CPs in the computer. Using a suitable diagnostics function in the "Set PG/PC Interface" configuration tool or the Station Configuration Editor, this LED can be activated for test purposes (flashes regularly).

Procedure
Figure 3.1
Follow the steps below to fit the CP 5711 to a DIN rail: 1. Fit the DIN rail holder to the back of the CP 5711 by pushing the DIN rail holder into the profile provided. 2. Place the CP 5711 on the upper edge of the DIN rail (position A). The PROFIBUS connector must be pointing down. 3. Pull the DIN rail slider (position C) down and press the CP 5711 against the DIN rail. Release the catch of the DIN rail slider so that the catch locks in place at position B.

WARNING When used in hazardous environments corresponding to Class I, Division 2 or Class I, Zone 2, the device must be installed in a cabinet or a suitable enclosure. To comply with EU-Directive 94/9 (ATEX95), this enclosure must meet the requirements of at least IP54 in compliance with EN 60529. WARNING If the cable or conduit entry point exceeds 70 C or the branching point of conductors exceeds 80 C, special precautions must be taken. If the equipment is operated in an air ambient of 0 C - 60 C, only use cables with admitted maximum operating temperature of at least 80 C. WARNING Provisions shall be made to prevent the rated voltage from being exceeded by transient voltage surges of more than 40%. This criterion is fulfilled, if supplies are derived from SELV (Safety Extra-Low Voltage) only. WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD DO NOT CONNECT OR DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT WHEN A FLAMMABLE OR COMBUSTIBLE ATMOSPHERE IS PRESENT. WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD SUBSTITUTION OF COMPONENTS MAY IMPAIR SUITABILITY FOR CLASS I, DIVISION 2 OR ZONE 2. WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD DO NOT OPEN WHEN ENERGIZED.

Procedure for connecting up 1. Connect the USB interfaces of the CP 5711 and the PC with the USB cable. Use only the USB cable supplied or another USB cable suitable for use in industry. Note Ideally, you should use the USB connectors on the back of the housing of your PC to connect the CP 5711 and PC. The front USB connectors generally have a lower signal quality. We recommend that you do not use any additional USB hubs. NOTICE USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 To achieve the guaranteed configuration limits with all protocols and at all bus transmission speeds, you should ideally use a USB 2.0 high-speed connector. In the "Configuration Console", you can check which USB version the USB port is used on your PC "CP 5711 USB connector USB version". 2. Connect the CP 5711 with PROFIBUS via the PROFIBUS interface. Procedure for removing the CP 5711 while the operating system is running NOTICE Existing configurations of the CP 5711 must be deleted before it is removed. You can do this, for example, in the Station Configuration Editor or in the "Configuration Console". Before you can remove the CP 5711 from the PC/PG it must be disconnected safely from the PC/PG. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar notification area.
49
50
CAUTION Disconnecting the device from the external power supply If you want to disconnect the device from the external power supply, follow these steps: 1. Shut down any communication via the CP 5711. 2. Disconnect the USB connection from the device to the PC. 3. Disconnect the external power supply from the device.
Parallel operation with other USB devices NOTICE The use of other USB devices (for example a Webcam, mass memory, ...) on USB ports of the PC can affect the performance of the CP 5711. NOTICE Removing and inserting USB devices can cause disrupted functions on the USB interface. In extreme cases, communication via the CP 5711 may even be aborted making it necessary to restart the application. Note If you are operating two CP 5711 modules connected to one computer, use different root hubs.

RTSAS, input signal for direct MPI link. Input The control signal is "1" active when the automation system connected over a special MPI cable is sending. Output M5EXT return line (GND) of the 5 V power supply. The current load of an external consumer connected between P5EXT and M5EXT must not exceed a maximum of 20 mA. P5EXT power supply (+5 V). The current load of an external consumer connected between P5EXT and M5EXT must not exceed a maximum of 20 mA to activate the termination (short-circuit proof). Socket 7 is not connected. With other PROFIBUS components, the P24V supply of the floating 24 V power supply may be over this pin. Signal line A of PROFIBUS Output
