KNEE ARTHROPLASTY 2009: FROM EARLY INTERVENTION TO REVISION

Knee replacement is now more frequently performed than hip replacement, yet it is more expensive and less effective. The financial environment and patient expectations demand improved outcome at a lower cost. This event will showcase the revolutionary solutions now available, stimulate debate, and help shape the future of this essential area. Knee 2009 will see international opinion leaders present clearly defined ideas. Areas of debate will include:
Total

Knee Replacement (TKR) vs unicompartmental knee replacement Traditional surgery vs computer-assisted surgery Early vs late intervention This event will bring together surgeons, academics and engineers to share knowledge and to benefit from each others experiences, successes and frustrations. There will be 63 presentations, and frequent question-and-answer sessions. The conference also features a drinks reception and a banquet. For details, please see the programme.

17:30 Q&A SESSION 17:45 CLOSE OF DAY 2 18:00 CONFERENCE BANQUET The conference banquet will start with a drinks reception in the Royal College of Surgeons Hunterian Museum and Library. The museum and library is of national importance in documenting the achievements of British surgery, and features 3,500 specimens and preparations from John Hunters original collection, including those showing his successful ligation of the femoral artery for popliteal aneurysm and his experiments on collateral circulation. They also house an art gallery and an extensive collection of surgical implements and medical devices, as well as an outstanding collection of surgical literature dating from the 15th century onwards. After drinks, we will move downstairs for a three-course dinner served in the Edward Lumley Hall. This room houses some of the colleges most important paintings, including the portrait of John Hunter by Sir Joshua Reynolds and the large cartoon by Hans Holbein of Henry VIII presenting the Charter to the Barber Surgeons in 1540. Please register for this event when booking (15 + VAT for conference delegates and 60 + VAT for non-delegates).
