THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

I want to thank Patrick Hinson for preaching last Sunday night. Great job! Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Each year when I celebrate this holiday, I cant help but ponder the contributions of those who work hard in the church and around the globe at kingdom building. If it were not for the faithfulness of those who have gone before, we would not have what we enjoy today. The early church labored diligently to pass the baton of faith on to others. The early church, charged by Christ Himself, was to take what they had learned to the nations, to all people groups (Mt. 28:19-20). Later Paul conveyed to Timothy, that he was to pass on what he had been taught to reliable men so they could then tell others (2 Timothy 2:2). It is for the strength and well-being of our country, that we pass on to others what we ourselves have received in the Lord! We have been called by God to make a difference with the life we enjoy in Christ. Are you making a difference? Are you serving the Lord? Are you passing on your baton of faith so future generations may continue to disciple others and keep the cycle going? May we never tire doing what is right. It was Paul who said, Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. This Fall, it is my prayer that you will strive harder than ever to become more vocal about your faith. It is my prayer you will become intentional about seeking people who need Jesus. It is my prayer that you will pray daily for this church and what you can do to unite us rather than divide us. Jesus said, Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my discipleswhen they see the love you have for each other (John 13:34-35). Now, lets go labor together in Jesus name. In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

PERSONAL NOTE: On Sunday evening Sue and I arrived home following 14 exciting days on the road. Our travels took us as far North & West as Montana and South to Utah and Texas. Our travels took us 5969 miles. We were blessed to see Gods great creation in the western national parks of Glacier, Yellowstone, Zion, Grand Tetons, Brice Canyon and Grand Canyon. Additionally, we viewed the Great Salt Lake, the Little Big Horn battlefield and many other sites. We concluded our journey by worshipping with the Southeast Christian Church, in Louisville, Ky. on Sunday morning. We thank God for safe passage. (We do have a few pictures!) NEW HORIZONS RETREAT: Tuesday, September 10 is the date for this great senior gathering. We depart at 7:30 am. A continental breakfast is provided. You may still register, but the registration fee is now $25 per person ($10 for first timers.) This years program features Jim Book, Jeff Bullock, Tom Shelton and the musical group, 64 to Grayson. You will find registration forms on the bulletin board. Fill out the form and pass it to me today. (Please make checks payable to North Terrace Church of Christ.) SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This week (9/1) we are launching our fall series with studies on wellknown Biblical characters. The study on September 1 is, Andrew, The Witness (John 1:35-42). Next week, we will examine Zaccheus, The Traitor (Lk. 19:1-10.) WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDIES: Our summer break is coming to an end and we will be resuming our midweek studies on September 11. On that date we will launch a brief series of lessons titled Meet The Millennials. In these lessons we will examine the attitudes, lifestyles, etc. of those born between 1980 and 2000 and explore how the Church may reach out to them. (You may learn a bit about your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren!) LaCOMEDIA DINNER THEATRE: The stand-by list remains available on our bulletin board. There is always the possibility that someone may need to cancel their reservation and we will have an opening. Remember, the date is Thursday, October 17. We will be departing the church parking lot at 8:15am for the trip to Dayton. We will be enjoying an excellent buffet dinner and a matinee presentation of The Church Basement Ladies: A Mighty Fortress Is Our Basement. This trip is KeenAger sponsored but is open to anyone who would like to go. The cost for the show, dinner and transportation is just $44 per person. FINAL THOUGHT: Nothing is easier than faultfinding; no talent, no self-denial, no special training to get into the grumbling business.

Last week in Childrens Church we did a series of experiments that all had one common denominator. First experiment: We took dirty old pennies, put them in vinegar and salt, they came out perfectly clean and good as new! Second experiment: Took a plate of salt, added a dash of black pepper in it. Took a plastic spoon and rubbed it against the kids hair to create static electricity, hovered the spoon over the plate and all of the black pepper stuck to the spoon, leaving the salt pure and white again. Third Experiment: Added one Tablespoon of water with one tablespoon of a white powder, before our eyes it turned into a pile of white snow! So, what do these three things have in common? We are sinful and imperfect, like a dirty penny, or a dash of black pepper, but through our Lord Jesus Christ we can be made new! Through Baptism we are made clean again! And through the blood of Jesus we are made white as snow! Thank Him! Dont forget! This Saturday, September 7th is the FALL KICK OFF! This year we are having a Bonfire at the Huffman residence! (1900 Lake Road) We will be having smores, games and songs around a bonfire from 7:00-9:00pm! Then Next Sunday will be the first Sunday of our new quarter of Childrens Ministry! Hannah

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through gracebased preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and SoonComing King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
