About This Chapter
Applicable to all types of BTSs/NodeBs manufactured by Huawei, the outdoor environment monitoring unit (EMUA) is used to monitor the environment in the equipment room and the cabinet. 2.1 Functions of the EMUA This describes the functions of the EMUA. Providing a variety of input ports for monitoring signals, the EMUA supports real-time monitoring and remote monitoring. In addition, the EMUA is highly reliable and can be flexibly configured. It supports a large area for temperature monitoring. 2.2 Exterior of the EMUA Each Module of EMUA has three types of exterior A, B, and C. 2.3 Internal Structure of the EMUA This describes the internal structure of the EMUA. 2.4 Communication Ports on the EMUA The EMUA provides the RS485 and RS232 ports for the communication between the EMUA and the BTS/NodeB. Specifically, the EMUA4832 provides an independent commissioning port. 2.5 Monitoring Ports of the EMUA The EMUA provides monitoring ports for the humidity/temperature sensor, smoke sensor, water sensor, infrared sensor, and door status sensor. In addition, the EMUA provides monitoring ports for the Boolean signal sensor, analog signal sensor, and output control sensor, which are extended sensors. 2.6 Technical Specifications of the EMUA This describes the technical specifications of the EMUA.
Issue 10 (2010-03-30)
2-1
The EMUA2416 and EMUA2432 support +24 V DC power input, and the voltage can range from +18 V DC to +36 V DC. The EMUA4832 supports -48 V DC power input, and the voltage can range from -36 V DC to -72 V DC. The EMUA provides an independent port for +12 V/+24 V DC current-type (4 mA - 20 mA) humidity/temperature sensors. The temperature monitoring range is -20oC [-4oF] to 80oC [176oF]. The EMUA provides four ports for monitoring analog signals. Voltage-type (0 V - 5 V) sensors and current-type (4 mA - 20 mA) sensors can be used. The types of monitored analog signals can be configured through the DIP switch settings according to the BTS/ NodeB configuration.
Environment Monitoring
l
Boolean Signal Monitoring The EMUA provides ports for monitoring Boolean signals. Dry contact point signals and OC signals are supported.
l l
The EMUA2416 supports 16 ports for Boolean signal monitoring. The EMUA2432 or EMUA4832 supports 32 ports for Boolean signal monitoring.
Relay Node Control The EMUA provides six output control ports for external Boolean signals of the relay node type. Communication Ports The EMUA provides two RS-485 ports, which are used for the communication between the EMUA and the BTS/NodeB.

The signals shown in this table are defined in terms of transmission and reception by the EMUA. When the TXD+ pin is connected to the RXD+ pin and the TXD- pin is connected to the RXD- pin , the RS485 serial port can be used for two-wire connection. The EMUA works properly even if only one RS485 serial port is connected. It is recommended that you use two RS-485 serial ports in active/standby mode. In this case, set serial port 1 to the active port.

Context
The requirements for the installation of the smoke sensor are as follows:
l
If the smoke sensor is to be installed in the center of the ceiling, ensure that:
There is no obstacle within a 0.5 m [1.64 ft] radius of the smoke sensor. The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the blast vent of the airconditioner is greater than 1.5 m [4.92 ft]. The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the air vent in the ceiling is greater than 0.5 m [1.64 ft]. The horizontal distance between the smoke sensor and the air vent of the air-conditioner is greater than 1.5 m [4.92 ft].
The smoke sensor is suitable for detecting fires that have smolder during the initial stage and emit large amounts of smoke. Do not install the smoke sensor at locations where:
Black smoke is emitted during fires. No smoke or little smoke is edited during fires. The relative humidity is constantly greater than 95%. The airflow rate is greater than 5 m/s. Large amounts of dust or water smoke is suspended. Corrosive gas may be emitted. Smoke is suspended under normal circumstances. Organic substances, such as alcohol, ether, and ketone are generated.
Before powering on the smoke sensor, ensure that the smoke sensor is correctly connected. Thirty seconds after the smoke sensor is powered on, the red indicator will start to blink once every 9 to 15 seconds. Dust easily accumulates on the smoke sensor. Therefore, clear the dust periodically to avoid false alarms. To protect the smoke sensor from dirt, do not remove the dust cover before using the sensor.
CAUTION
l
The smoke sensor cannot work without the power supply. Therefore, the smoke sensor does not work if the power supply is interrupted. To avoid damage to the smoke sensor, do not directly use +24 V DC input voltage for the smoke sensor.
NOTE
l l
The smoke sensor can be connected only to the terminals marked "Smoke&24VS". The smoke sensor generates alarms when there is smoke or fire. You have to run an associated command to clear the alarms.
Procedure
Step 1 Install the smoke sensor in the selected position.

The infrared sensor should not be exposed to sunlight or other strong light. The infrared sensor should not directly face heat sources such as air-conditioners or caliducts. The infrared sensor should directly face positions prone to unauthorized entry. The infrared sensor should not be installed on the wall beside the door. The monitoring range should be clear of obstacles so that the infrared sensor can be directly seen in the monitoring range. The Fresnel lens of the infrared sensor should be kept clean. The pyroelectric components of the infrared sensor should not be touched.

Context
The requirements for the installation of the humidity/temperature sensor are as follows:
l
Generally, the humidity/temperature sensor should be installed on a wall and about 1.5 m [4.92 ft] above the ground. Around the humidity/temperature sensor, ventilation should be good, and the airflow rate is 0.1 m/s to 1 m/s.
NOTE
l l l
The humidity/temperature sensor cannot be installed in a position with no or little airflow. The humidity/temperature sensor cannot be installed in a position with too rapid airflow, for example, the air vent in the ceiling or the blast vent of an air-conditioner.
There is no air conditioning. The relative humidity is constantly higher than 90%. The temperature is constantly below -20oC [-4oF]. The wind of an air cooling machine or air heating machine can directly blows the humidity/temperature sensor. The air is polluted by substances such as sour gas and oily gas.
l l l
The humidity/temperature sensor should be kept away from the ends of the cabling trough. The installation plane should be clean. The humidity/temperature sensor should be powered off before the sensor is installed or replaced. Holes should not be drilled around the humidity/temperature sensor after the sensor is installed. If you have to do so, take appropriate measures to protect the sensor from dust. The humidity-sensitive components of the humidity/temperature sensor should not be touched.
CAUTION
l
To avoid mechanical and electrostatic damage to the humidity/temperature sensor, be cautious when moving the box cover and the circuit board and when connecting the wires. When moving the circuit board, hold its edges and take care not to touch its components. Place the circuit board in a clean position. You need to calibrate the humidity/temperature sensor annually. Replace it if its precision is too low.

The humidity/temperature sensor can be connected only to the terminals marked "TEMP&24VT&HUMI&24VH".

Step 2 Use the percussion drill to drill holes according to the marks. Step 3 Insert the plastic expansion tubes into the installation holes. Step 4 Use the tapping screws to fix the backplane to the wall. Step 5 Fix the humidity/temperature sensor to the backplane. Step 6 Connect the humidity/temperature sensor, as shown in Figure 5-8.
