How to position on-screen elements in Navori

Introduction The secret to designing sophisticated Mosaic layouts or Crawling Banner overlays in Navori lies in the proper use of X and Y coordinates. Once you understand the way the application positions elements on screen you will be able to create virtually any layout. Navori Player treats your screen as a grid that corresponds to the resolution of the PC screen on which it is running.

On the left you will find a table that lists most current screen resolutions available today. Defining which resolution your PC Players display uses is the first step before laying out your Mosaic or Crawling Banner in Navori. The left hand number represents the width of your screen in pixels (X). The number on the right is the height of your screen image in pixels (Y). Navori anchors its graphics in the upper left-hand corner so coordinates X=0, Y=0 refer to the upper left hand corner of your PCs screen:

Working with two or more screens: Since Navori uses the same display settings as Windows, the Player can be configured to span all screens or be restricted to just one screen. You can even configure the size of the Player window and position it so it only occupies part of one screen (Note: Applies to both, XP and Vista).

In the example above, Windows is configured to extend its desktop across both screens and Navori Player has been configured to span (stretch) across all screens. A Mosaic was created with 2 zones. One zone is anchored at coordinates X=0, Y=0 (left screen). A second zone was defined at coordinates X=1440, Y=0 (right screen). Ignore the thickness of the screen frames as they dont really count here. As fas as Windows is concerned, the two zones touch. Each zone has a width of 1440 pixels and a height of 900 pixels. Knowing this, users can position any graphical element in a Mosaic, any Crawling Banner or even position the Player window itself.

5 Positioning your Crawling Banner on screen: Navori Crawling Banners float over any content on screen (including Mosaics). Navori v5.1 supports the traditional Navori Crawling Banner (typed text, text file or RSS Feed) and also any Flash content either as a banner background or as a foreground item. This lets you create very sophisticated screen layouts that support real-time data.

In the example, above an animated Flash banner is combined with a traditional Navori Crawling Banner. The Navori Crawling Banner is sized and positioned using the Size And Location fields in the Crawling Banner Layout tab. You can stretch the banner across one or more screens. You can also position the banner anywhere on screen. You are only limited by your own imagination. The window on the right shows the Layout tab for the Navori Crawling Banner. Below it is the Background tab where you can define the settings for any Flash component you wish to add. Here again you may configure the Flash animations Size And Location at the bottom of the dialog box. Always remember your screen resolution determines the grid where you position your content on screen. You always start in the upper left hand corner (coordinates X=0, Y=0).
