In this first newsletter of 196?' we extend a prayer to God for a year, of closer fellow ship with Christ, and one of full service to Him for you and us. There is much to do every where for Christ in this world of sin and strife. The door is open for Christ's message of salvation to all parts of Brazil, We have cities of over 3 million population still without

instead of to the moon or elsewhere. It takes $250,000 to kill one Viet Cong and, with this much, thousands could be savdd. America thinks more of her pets than the souls of men

why? We spend more each year just for dog food than for all missions that exist. We pray that this new year will be one which is centered on Christ and His great commission of "Go
ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

NEl^ FROM THE FIELD

T The Christmas play was a great success with the church building
crTffwded.

Eleven, have surrendered their lives to Christ and have been born

again by the water and Spirit into His kingdom.

One Christian couple just passed away, one just four days after, the other. The church really feels the loss, January 23 through 27 will be Daily Vacation Bible School for 1.967,

Plans are under way for another fine program like last year.
The church property is finally being registered in the name of
the Brazilian congregation.

Men*s S^jiritual Retreat will be February 6, 7, 8 in Brasilia.

Here men, gain much in spiritual knowledge of God's Word and Christian
fellowship.

We want to explain the delay in our Christmas Newsletter (Brazilian Light).

All the

addresses must be coded with the proper zip number, which means that all the addressing plates muet be prepared to give Bip code as well as name and address. This takes quite a
while to accoraplishj before they can be mailed. They should be in your home before the end of January. Thank you for your uiiderstanding and patience. This new year has started off with a bang for us. Marlene has developed a stomach ulcer because of all my sickness, Cindy (daughter no. 3) has gotten rid of her arm cast and I believe her shoulder is doing real well. The church is almost ready for the pews and other
furniture. Eight were added to the congregation in December and three thus far this month.

Everything is going well and the Spirit is leading us to many victories.

The only problem

It

we seem to have is that of Support during our medical leave and period of recuperation.

seems that some of the churches are letting down on their support and others have dropped off. We are still serving God building this new church with no salary or support we are still on medical leave and we are supporting the work in Brazil. We still need your prayers and financial support, as much as or more than ever before. We ask you churches and folk to continue to stand behind us in this double work of God, supporting us as you have before; for if it were not for you this work could not go on or even be done. May God bless you as
you serve Him in the establishing of new churches and the evangelizing of Brazil through us, His servants. Remember us daily in prayer.

Dear Ci.-ristian Friends,

God is ccrtainly leading and blessing the work, as we have entered into 196?.

There is

Dutch Guiana, French Guiana, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argen tina and Uruguay. Tliere are millions upon the brink of a Christless eternity this very hour and we have the message that saves for the eternity of the eter

A spring revival is planned for the church in Louisville, Kentucky. Bro. Jack Anderson will be the evangelist. There will be a dedication service April

9 for church property, new furniture, etc.

The responsibility of the church and ^everyone who is a member of this body is still to go into all the world preaching the Gospel to every creature, baptizing them, and teaching them the way of a closer walk. The fields are ripe unto harvest ready for the reaping of lost souls but there are just a few labor ers. Let us pray to the Lord that there
will be more workers sent into the fields

and that churches will see their purpose, which is evangelizing the world for Christ.

AND THEY SHALL BE FILLED

"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled." The Master commands us to go into the highways, streets, all living areas and to compel them to come in. In Belo Horizonte we have gone into every area compeling souls to hear the message of the Savior. As you see in the picture above, people are poor, hungry, naked, and sick of many diseases. Approximately one half of the "three^and^bne-half billion people on earth are starving and in need of the bare neces sities of life. In Brazil the life expectancy is 40 years and death is such a common visitor. When we see this starvation, nakedness, and death our hearts and minds are centered on their physical needs, until the real need is completely hidden and forgotten. Concern for the caring of their bodies has erased from our hearts the dire
need their souls have for the Bread of Life. This area, where the Christians have

gathered, is on the brink of an open sewer. Mud houses are jammed together on the edge of this filthy sewer for miles. The first time I entered to preach Christ, the people were seeking the body of a little boy, who had fallen 25 feet down into this rocky stream of the cities waste. The constant sight of the needy bears upon you at all times while you are trying to guide them to Calvary to salvation in Christ. You
must always remember the Word of God, which states they who hunger and thirst after

righteousness shall be filled. This is not food for the body or c lothing or she Iter, but the desire to be found in Christ clothed in His righteousness. Let us see the world's true need, which is Christ, then these other things will be added.

Dear Christian Friends

Easter is here again with all the glories, misunderstandings, and problems.

For a Chris

tian every Lord's Day is Easter (Day of Resurrection), not just one day each year. It is not a time for festivities, egg hunts, gay dressing, etc. The born again believers in Brazil have- no false front, such as mentioned, but realiz'e the day for what it is. It is our proof
of redemption, bur resurrection, and our eternal life, which abides in Christ. Materialism has taken hold so much that it is almost a disgrace not to be well decked out in new cloth ing on Easter. So many nominal Cniustians only show up at service at this time of the year, as the old minister said, "We have so m^iy two timing Christisms for they only attend on

Easter and Christmas." This is frightfully true.

then you will have the proper Easter.

Will Christ find any faith on earth when

He 'returns? Just because many or most* people take Christ out of Easter, this is no reason why we should do so. If you have a Christ-centered life, and a Christ-centered family life,

God has certainly blessed us with great victories this month. It was a great s.p;.;-itual thrill to hear Richard Wurmbrand, the Lutheran minister,* who had been in a Communist prison for 1^ years. The- challenge he gave to us Christians to stand for Christ and His church
against the Communist threat was filled with the Spirit of God. He warhed us that the Com-

munist povrer hers in the good ole* U.S.A. was making great headway arid that we as Christians, citizens, and orr governrrxent are not doing anything to stop it. He revealed the sufferings of many Cht'istir.ns behind- the iron curtain, and the cruel means v.^ed to influence ones away-from. Christ. It was sweet 'to hear how many Communist soldiers and young people were conver ted to the Lord through' aill these years of prison.it KEVB FROM THE FIELD: .

The Spring Revival was a great spiritual blessing and our lives were brought nearer to the cross of full surrender to Christ and His Will. We have really been busy about
the Lord's task, so this letter is sort of late. The Dedication Service was a thrill

ing event for each of us, es we dedicated our selves to full committment, as well as

the church property and furnishings to God. It was good to have veteran missionary, Jenny Lee Titus, here in Louisville, Bro. Ljmn Clevelandj recruit to Brazil, was with
us for several hours. -Ii> was good to-see and-loiovf this-young man and to be able-to assist him in all the red tape of leaving homo and entering 5.nto a foreign country.

We pray God's richest blessings on their efforta for His Son in the winning of many

We are entering 8 weeks of deeper Spiritual Life Campaign, which we feel the Lord can use in our lives, as well as, in our witness to others outside His Kingdom, The burden is still quite heavy since the church is so new, and the fact that we have only been in the area less than one year. Stand behind
-up with your prayerful support.

The family is well at the present time, Pam had a 3 day bed stay with viral flu. The girls are alreay planning their school vacation -- visiting, camp, and time to rest from their studies. They are preparing now for Youth Retreat. When school begins in September all five >iill be in for study. The family certainly appreciates your con
stant prayers and support. This enables us to do God's will in Brazil and stateside

as well. All of this work depends upon your prayers and monthly helj), ,_Ma_y God richly_
bless you and rav^ard you for many victories in His precious name.
' In Christian Love,

Remember us con

stantly in your daily pra^^ers, that wo may burn brightly in these last days of witness.

Dear Christian Friends,

The Lord has blessed and led us into such a deep walk with Him during these past weeks of fuller service and deeper commitment. A refreshing time of spiritual guidance with the youth
of the area, and a season of soul-thrilling days with over 5>000 men who love the Lord.

There is no way to express the in-filling of the Holy Spirit and the tremendous uplift of
spiritual life I received at the Kiamichi Clinic.

We are so sorry that this letter is so late, but there has been so much to do plus the planning of Daily Vacation Bible School and a special Stewardship Revival, which is to start
the 4th of June and end the 9th.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
NEVE FROM BRAZIL: The Lord has added many new souls to His Kingdom these last few weeks and the church is groining rapidly. . The Youth Hour is now over 40 and the entire program ,is led by a-wonderful Christian couple. Pray for them. There will be a two week revival in Gama, one of the villas near Brazilia. Pray that God will speak to many hearts and lead them to Christ by His Holy Spirit. The men of the church in Belo will lead the work / / / / / / / /

during these two weeks. . : Remember .this work of the-Lord for we are working with over 1 million 200 thousand people, who need the gospel. . We have over 10 million in this state. The inflation is making it so difficult in living and work.in.Brazil.

/ ' / / . /

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
So many do things without thinking. I am sorry to say that many churches do things in that method. Many churches have stopped their support to us - without a word of explanation. They think ii you are not in Brazil, then you are not doing anything. This is not true. We are still on Medical Leave, whj.ch reports three seizures Grand Mai, and brain surger^ a^in ^

in May I966.

Does this mean that we are doing nothing or won't return to Brazil? No, during

this medical leave we have, through God's power and Spirit, established a new congregation, which has pv.r hased a $75,000 church plant. The church gives $200 per month to missions (not to me). V/e sp^ak in churches for the Brazil work and teach missions in the Louisville Bible
College. We are still responsible for the work in Belo Horizonte, Braz-il^, and. we-send the support we receive to Brazil. The new congregation does not pay us in any ^ay, except the gasolina our car.uses. So many churches have failed to continue their support to us that
Marlene is now working full time, so we can continue to work with this new church and con

tinue our work in Brazil. Now, if you support us as God's servants, you are doing work in Brazil and statesidej not just in one place, but both places. Will you support us, as God's missionaries both Brazil-wise and State-wise? Will you continue your prayers and support, as we serve the living i^ord with all our hearts and lives? Anywhere He leads we will go and
ser\/-e. God bless each of you in your service to Christ.

All the girls send their love and so do Marlene and I.

Pray for us daily.

In Christian Love,
Art and Marlene Carter

Dear Christian Friends,

We lunate to you in a moment of rest, after the days of victory in the name of Jesus. hearts rejoice within us to have been used and to have been witnesses to the praise and

Our

power of God in untransformed lives.

We cannot exp3:ss the overflowing moments when 63

souls became fully surrendered and completely committed unto Christ. There is nothing so thrilling, as the Holy Spirit moving through the people stirring their hearts and melt^g their wills and ways. We just finished a Revival of full Committment complete steward

ship in this new congregation. Beside the fully ;cpmmitted, there were 12 tr^sfers and 3 baptisms. This is the greatest meeting we have ever experienced in this new congregation, where everyone let go and let God have His way. -Just a closer walk with Thee, this is what
the congregation is now experiencing.

The second VBS was a joyous time an average of approximately 70* Missions was. taught eve3:y day and the offerings are to be sent to Francisco Leite, a Brazilian national preacher,
who will be opening a new work in an untouched area of Brazil.

Two windows shot out of the church building no reason why it was. just done. Pretty careless or dangerous. Witchcraft cast upon the Belo Horizonte Church. At the door of the church building were remnants of two candles, red and black. There were sticks and stones and a small paper. The only word on it was EXU, which means "restless Sf)irit" or similar to Satan. There was a spell cast on the church by evil power thank God, we have His power.

The family is fine at the present timejust happy that we can be of service to the Lord. The girls are happy that school is out and that camp is here. We are very grateful to God for our girls and seek His guidance in directing their paths to committed service for Him.

Pam (daughter number 2) is the bright, A student in school.

She ended this year's study

with winning the school spelling bee. I will be traveling around quite a bit this summer in speaking on Missions in Brazil; in camp, church, and revivals. .We want to take a few lines and express our gratitude to each of you who understand our
situation, our needs, and how we are working two-fold in His service in complete mission work. We thank you for your unending prayers and support. May God bless you in every won derful way for your vision, interest, and work. Remember, dear brother, you will never go
unrewarded for service rendered in Christ's name.

Remember us daily in prayer to the Father.
