1 Company Profile DLF Limited , or DLF , is India's largestreal estate developerbased inNew Delhi, India. The DLF Group was founded byChaudhury Raghuvendra Singh in 1946. DLFdeveloped some of the first residential coloniesin Delhi such as Krishna Nagar, SouthExtension, Greater Kailash, Kailash Colony andHauz Khas. In 1957, with the passage of DelhiDevelopment Act, the government assumedthe control of real estate developmentactivities in Delhi and the role of private realestate developers was restricted. As a resultDLF began acquiring land at relatively low costoutside the area controlled by the DelhiDevelopment Authority, particularly in thedistrict of Gurgaon in the adjacent state of Haryana. In the mid-1970s, the companystarted developing its ambitiousDLF City project which helped transformGurgaonfroma farming village to a commercial and realestate hub. DLF has been instrumental inputting Gurgaon on the urban landscape of India. Its upcoming plans includehotels,infrastructureandspecial economic zones- related development projects.The company is currently headed byIndian billionaire Kushal Pal Singh, who inherited the company from Chaudhury. Kushal Pal Singh,according to the Forbes listing of richest billionaires in 2008, nowstands as the 8th richest man in the world. The company'sUS$2billionIPOin July, 2007 created India's biggest IPO in history. InJuly 2007, DLF announced its first quarter results ending 30th June 2007.The company reported a turnover of Rs. 3,120.98 Crore and PAT at Rs.1,515.48 Crore.
