In Nepal, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati formally launched an Air Traffic Message Handling System (AHMS) and new Flight Plan 2012 at a function in the Tribhubvan International Airport in Kathmandu on 12th Nov, 2012. Addressing the function Mr Bogati said the government is taking all possible measures to make air service safe and reliable. With the launching of the new system at Nepals only international airport, all information about flights to and from Tribhuvan airport can be taken through internet.

National Issues
The Public Service Broadcasting Day is observed on November 12 every year to commemorate Mahatma Gandhis maiden visit to All India Radio studio at the Broadcasting House in New Delhi. It was on this day in 1947, that Gandhiji spoke on radio to the refugees from Pakistan, stationed at a camp in Kurukshetra, Haryana. It was Gandhijis first and last visit to AIR studio. Gandhiji always emphasized on the service and advocacy aspect of media, two important pillars of public service broadcasting.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating the Vatsalya Mela from 14-19 November 2012 at the Dilli Haat in New Delhi. Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister of State for Women and Child Development will inaugurate the Mela on 14th November at 3.00 pm. The theme for this years Mela is Safety and Protection of Women and Child Rights. The inauguration of the Mela coincides with the Childrens Day, celebrated in memory of the birth anniversary of the first Prime of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru whose love and affection for children is well known. As the name suggests, this Mela is organized in recognition of the love of the mother for the child. The Mela provides an opportunity to the Ministry and its attached organizations to showcase their activities and programmes and policies to the public. As many as 400 artisans, craftsmen and NGOs from different parts of the country who are working with the Ministry or its attached organizations are showcasing their activities this year. In addition, different activities are planned for all the six days of Mela. These activities have been arranged in cooperation with partner-NGOs working with this Ministry.

Azad laid the foundation-stone of PPD Secretariat Building in Dhaka on 12th Nov, 2012. Sh. Azad is currently on an official tour to Bangladesh capital Dhaka in connection with the International Conference on Evidence for Action: South-South Collaboration for ICPD beyond 2014 organized jointly by Partners in Population and Development (PPD) and Bangladesh and also for attending PPD governance meetings.

Bilateral Issues
India has reaffirmed its commitment towards a stable, strong, united and prosperous Afghanistan. Addressing a joint press conference with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai in New Delhi on 12th Nov,2012, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said both sides have agreed to further intensify and deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and natural resources. Dr Singh said, India will continue its support to Afghanistan in its development efforts and pledged New Delhi's support to eliminating terrorism in that country. Expressing gratitude to India, Mr Karzai said, India has been a generous and frontline supporter in the nation building and re-construction of Afganistan. He said, the purpose of his visit was to inviote Indian bussiness community to invest in Afghanistan.

Bangladesh and Belarus on 12th Nov,2012 signed seven agreements and five MoUs in the fields of agriculture, education, science and technology, promotion and protection of investments, military technical cooperation and visa exemptions for officials. The agreements which were signed in the presence of visiting Belarus Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and open a new chapter of bilateral exports. Earlier during her discussions with the visiting Belarus Prime Minister, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is reported to have urged Belarus to import increased volume of readymade garments, jute products, frozen food, ceramics and other export products from Bangladesh. Belarus Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich arrived in Dhaka on 12th Nov,2012 on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh on the second leg of his three- nation tour. This is the first official visit of a Belarus premier since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1991.

Business Issues
The industrial production declined by 0.4 per cent in September. Growth in overall factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), was 2.5 per cent in September last

year. According to the official data released on 12th Nov,2012 , Industrial output in the April-September period this fiscal was 1 per cent, down from 5.1 per cent in the same period in 2011-12. Meanwhile the industrial production growth rate for August this year was revised downward to 2.3 per cent from 2.7 per cent released last month. The output of manufacturing sector which constitutes over 75 per cent of the index, contracted by 1.5 per cent in September, as against the growth of 3.1 per cent in the same month last year. The production in the manufacturing sector in April-September this year also dipped by 0.4 per cent as against a growth of 5.5 per cent growth in the same period in 2011-12. Capital goods output declined by 12.2 per cent in September, as against a contraction of 6.5 per cent in September, 2011. However, mining output in September, grew by 5.5 per cent as against a contraction of 7.5 per cent in the same month last year. Consumer goods production was down by 0.3 per cent in September as compared to a growth of 5.7 per cent in same month last year.

Economic Issues
The retail inflation moved closer to the double digit mark at 9.75 per cent in October due to rising prices of food items such as sugar, pulses and vegetables. According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released on 12th Nov 2012, it was 9.73 per cent in the previous month. The highest rise in prices during the month was recorded by sugar, up 19.61 per cent, year-on-year basis. It was followed by edible oil which turned expensive by 17.92 per cent, while pulses were dearer by 14.89 per cent on the annual basis. Vegetable rates during the month increased by 10.74 per cent while meat, fish and egg rates rose by 12.18 per cent. At the same time, clothing and footwear also witnessed an increase in prices at 10.47 per cent on an annual basis.

India's exports in October contracted 1.63 per cent year-onyear, for the sixth month in a row, to 23.2 billion US Dollars, mainly due to demand slowdown in the US and European markets. Exports in October 2011 stood at 23.6 billion Dollars. However, imports grew by 7.37 per cent to 44.2 billion US Dollars in October, leaving a trade deficit of 20.96 billion Dollars. Oil imports in October increased by 31.6 per cent year-on-year to 14.78 billion US Dollars. However, non-oil imports declined by 1.73 per cent to 29.42 billion Dollars.

In commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi's first visit to the Broadcasting House, New Delhi on 12th November, 1947, All India Radio has instituted Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting Awards in 2001. Since then, every year,

these awards are announced on 12th November. This year, in the category of Gandhiyan Philosophy, programme from All India Radio, Bengaluru "AHIMSEYA PRAVADI" has won the award. In the category of Public Service Broadcasting, programme of All India Radio, Jalandhar "PATJHAR BANE BASANT" has bagged the award.

Sports
The latest ICC rankings were released in Dubai on 12th Nov,2012. South Africa leads the International Cricket Council, ICC test rankings table followed by England and Australia. India is placed fifth behind Pakistan. Srilankas Kumar Sangakkara is the number one among the batsmen while Dale Steyn leads the pack of bowlers. None of the Indian players figure in top ten in test cricket ratings.

Asian Games gold medal winner woman athlete Pinki Pramanik has been found to be a male after a medical test done by a board of doctors at the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata. A medical report submitted by the police in a court at Barasat in West Bengal confirms this. Based on the report, police filed a charge sheet against Pinki, now on bail, charging the athlete with rape and cheating as well as charges of holding out threats. Pinki was accused by her live-in partner Anamika Acharya of being a male who raped her.This led to Pinki's arrest on June 14th and an order for medical examination to confirm the gender was issued.
