4) stata sviluppata in due sessioni: la prima quella del LABORATORIO ERRORISTA: NO WORK - NO SHOP. I sei protagonisti sono stati: C.S.I, Collettivo Senza Identit (Costanza Acquisti), ORGANIZZATORE DI EVENTI (Cosimo Vestita), 1977 (Pietro Botte), CULTURAL RESEARCHER (Dorian Batycka), STUDENTE FOURI SEDE (Antonio Tufano), COMITATO ANTI-DEGRADO (Ariela Maggi), MODERATORE (Piergiuseppe Francione). MANIFESTO ERRORISTA
The FOURTH CHAPTER of C.R.I.S.I. was a mise en scene of an assembly held in the public space of Piazza Verdi and based on the premise:
"The Assembly has become the representation of an Assembly So, if we make the representation of an Assembly, could it become a truly Assembly?
1) In times of crisis all meanings of peoples representation and participation are in tension, being questioned and debated. The crisis also affects the representational models adopting different and complex ways: sometimes are built from its own stereotypes, sometimes arise from the memory and history and sometimes are experiences which renew the democratic sense and its social representation. 2) Today, when the effectiveness of such models of participatory representation is highlighted, the ASSEMBLEA INFINITA is an act of reenactment based on memory and storytelling, performance and other social imagination devices. Its a social readymade, a mise en scene of an assembly in which the participants are reals, but they act their own social characters. The piece consists in an exercise of repetition; bringing some reminisces from the mythological 70, jumping to the present time in order to activate the social imagination about a possible common future (or not). 3) PIAZZA VERDI is a social scenario which has a long history of meetings and assemblies that still continue as a symbolic permanency. Its a public common space where hundreds of people (those who participate in social and political discussions and those who do not take part) share every day. At the same time Piazza Verdi represents the site of the so call degradation a category used by the media to describe the effects of the youngs social life in the public space of Bologna.
4) It happened in two sessions: ERRORIST LABORATORY: NO WORK - NO SHOP. It was based in a three days of permanent assembly, improvisation and rehearsal in which a collective of collectives were discussing the topics and concepts to be re-presented in Piazza Verdi. In these meetings the participants were prepared to become Actor-cides (which means among other things "to suicide in front of your own representative form: the stereotypes") with an errorist training to stay ready to confront (and change) the passive role of the spectators into the active role of spect-actors. That laboratory involved individuals and collectives initiatives as an space for discussion, debate and (re)creation, the production of the scripts, character and scenography. The second stage was the ASSEMBLEA INFINITA, and it consisted in an open assembly in the public space of Piazza Verdi, where artists, activist, students and passersby joined the meeting and has intervened in the participatory performance. The six protagonist were C.S.I, Collective Without Identity (Costanza Acquisti), EVENTS ORGANIZER (Cosimo Vestita), 1977 (Pietro Botte ), CULTURAL RESEARCHER (Dorian Batycka), STUDENTE FOURI SEDE (Antonio Tufano), ANTIDEGRADATION COMMITTEE (Ariela Maggi), MODERATOR (Piergiuseppe Francione).
The Errorist Theatre does not invent fictitious scenarios or unilateral conventions. It looks for social scenarios and appropriates them, working them into the scene. It does not matter who acts and who observes: Dramaturgy is created by the succession and simultaneity of errors. Here, there is no assay: the dramatic action results from the map of errors of life. per un altro, o trattasi di un concetto complesso, sperimentale, non lineare, macchinico, molecolare, che trasforma i modi di soggettivazione, le forme stesse della vita?
subservience into a potential of disobedient practices (on the basis of the slogan Demand nothing, occupy everything)? And finally, connected with these questions, how easily are these concepts being appropriated and coopted? Does the positive mentioning of the Arab Spring or occupy, say in Repubblica, change anything for the Italian social movements? ETCETERA: How could this affect the discourse of hegemony and of the proliferation of social movements? GERALD RAUNIG: Ok, the problem of proliferation and propagation remains, and with it the function of the media and the old question: How can there be more of us? But this question is put wrong to begin with. Starting out with a We, we always end up with the question of majority. Being-more in the sense of a majority is the wishful thinking and target point of a linear imagining of propagation via sender and receiver, knowledge production and reception, representatives and represented. It is only by turning from the question of majority and being-more to that of becoming multiplicity that the dominant logic of the n + 1 can be transformed into a rejection of identification and representation, into n - 1. Even the 99 % do not constitute a majority here, not even those 146 % the Moscow philosopher Alexei Penzin ironically wrote about in connection with the Russian election fraud in December of 2011, which turned the frail fledgling of occupy moscow into a veritable social movement for some months. In a post-media ecology multiplication and propagation is not to be understood as the addition of one to another, but mainly in the mode of machinic-monstrous contagion. This is where the media lose their quality as the center in a linear process of representation from production to reception. The middle is multiplicity itself. From it the multiple grows and spreads. It is no longer a question of target-groups to be addressed through mass media with the greatest possible outreach, but that of producting a completely different middle here and now, the rampant torrent in the middle of multiplicity. Media are not just a means here. They take part in the production of sociality and become in a new sense social media. These forms of social media defy any simple instrumentalizing as a coupling between active and passive, between production and reception. Think of the praxis in Cairo by which in 2011 a multitude of video activists placed their pictures on YouTube and other web channels, and these clips were then brought back as screenings to Tahrir Square and later into many decentralized places in Cairo. The multi-faceted video production and presentation went beyond the purely defensive technique of documenting police assaults and state repression, and became a multi-perspective production of images and sounds, a process of production of the social. Or think of the live streams from the assemblies since the university occupations, from the asambleas and general assemblies. They became a revolutionary reality TV and created despite all the triviality, often even ridiculousness of the picture of banal discussion processes, a new idea of transparency of the political. ETCETERA: Do you see any conjunction between word and social body with respect to these movements? GERALD RAUNIG: Definitely, this is where the social machines and the linguistic machines meet. Post-media sociality emerges in the intertwined forms of the production of expression, not in the separation of lingual/social, virtual/real and media/corporeal. The precarious bodies on the occupied squares, the human microphone, the live streams and social networks are components of one and the same make-up, just as media, im-media(te), post-media as they are real. Linguistic machines, social machines and technology machines interlink in entirely different ways than in the socio-narcissistic hustle and bustle of Facebook and Co. ETCETERA: In chapter 3 of your book A Thousand Machines, you use the definition of "War Machine" to problematize the dichotomous relationship between violence and nonviolence. Defining the War Machine as something as a leakage point to escape from the violence of the state apparatus and its order of representation. You say that in reverse of this war machine", the apparatus of the State is trying to make representable what escapes from the order of representation. GERALD RAUNIG: Yes, this is the danger of machinic struggles: that state apparatuses capture the machines, either with social subjection and repression, or even worse, turn them into fascist machines. The main question is: How can the war machine avoid being trapped and appropriated? Of course there is no recipe as an answer, but one flight line is anticipating the capture and keep deterritorializing every reterritorialization, as in keeping the right proportion of social critique (towards economic machines and state apparatuses), institutional critique (even in social movements) and self-critique. ETCETERA: During these days we are in Bologna developing the last chapter of our C.R.I.S.I project. This last chapter is entitled LASSEMBLEA INFINITA, born from the accumulative research conducted into different kinds of symptomatology we currently observe within our present crisis (anomia, degradation and crisis of representation). During our stay we have attended several public assemblies, most of them celebrated at the historic Piazza Verdi, a spatialized flash point in the centre of Bologna that has a long history of meetings, assemblies, and a space which we believe still resonates with a symbolic permanency evoking notions of the public and the commons. Piazza Verdi is a public and common space, where hundreds of people who participate in social and political discussions (as well as those who do not partake in such discussions) share every day. GERALD RAUNIG: To be honest, I would really have liked to join you in Bologna. Now that I could not come, I would like to ask an open question on your differentiation of piazza Verdi as a public and common space. Publicness has been the ideal of democracy since ancient Greece. The public centre, or the piazza where citizens meet and discuss ... Of course, there were its constituting exclusions of women, children, non-citizens (who were excluded from the public), and perhaps the most puzzling problem was and is the clear cut between private and public. The occupied space, the space of assembling, the space of the precarious bodies might have much more of a new and common quality of space, queering the separations of private and public in a very specific way. Common instead of public does not mean referring to a pre-existing community or a distant future community, but becoming-common in an extended present. Where there situations, where you could exemplify this difference between public and common in your experience of piazza Verdi? Or was there a development from a beginning being enclosed in the traditional idea of the public and then opened up? ETCETERA: Well, its a good question. We decided to use the metaphor of the "black hole" to refer about the strange phenomenon of Piazza Verdi. A hole in that we are inherently plunged in every time when we pass by there. For some moment public, private and common lose their form and meaning. Following the black hole, one is spinning inside the Normalization process. Right there, you lose track of time, blending memory, history, myth and nostalgia. Here the "public" (referring to the imposition of certain Public Policies on the use of such spaces) is producing a kind of compulsive consumerism of the public space, based on the use of such spaces for the massive entertainment or just hang out. But the black hole still there, at the same site with an incredible centripetal force which comes from the epicenter of the hole, which sucks the ideals and experiences of the social body. The "common" appears on the collective desire to transform the centripetal force into a centrifugal force. It is the return of the desire behind the consumerism that brings together forces produces new organizational forms, which converges and emerges in spontaneous meetings and assemblies. Today, what we understood talking with the people with whom we have interacted that the recovery of Piazza Verdi, is not just a fight for the public space; what is intended is a signify the Piazza as a common area, occupy the place from a different corpus. It seems that what those students collectives are seeking today is a daily invention of new resources, shared between the struggle inside and outside of the university, on a social scene that they have decided to call "Piazza Verdi Liberata". At the same time, Piazza Verdi represents the site of a so-called degradation (in the language of Italian policy makers, politicians and social commentators), a category also used by the mass media to describe the transformation of public space by the young people of Bologna. On May 22 2013, the students assembly at the Piazza was repressed by the police; and after this situation a series of new assemblies and public interventions continued permanently as a ritual to recover the place and to reclaim Piazza Verdi for the commons and the use of the public. From what we saw in those assemblies, we felt interested in how the crisis also affects all the representational models adopted in different ways: sometimes built from their

L ASSEMBLEA PERMANENTE funziona come social ready-made.
own stereotypes, sometimes from memory (and history), and sometimes simply form experiences that renew the model of assembly as a potential method for representation. Through forms of mass media manipulation and the Berlusconi multimedia monopoly, the social body of students in Italy has become a symbol a social degradation, deemed to be at the centre of many of Italys problems concerning the young and often marginalized members of society. Partially because of its dissemination in the mass media, the idea of degradation has been criminalized and stigmatized, which arguably began in the 1980s and continues through to the present day. It is almost as if we going to fall into a black hole, and today any attempt from students or activists to recover public life in the Piazza have become permanently frustrated, the results of which require immediate police repression, or conversely, these movements and ideas run the risk of being coopted by the cultural administration with their programs to normalize the Piazza and all associated activities, very much in line with the neoliberal cultural agenda and policies promoting social hegemony. From the idea that any attempt to make a collective experiment about the effectiveness of such models of participatory representation in the Piazza and elsewhere, we began to wonder: if the Assembly has become the representation of an Assembly, making the representation of an Assembly could it become a real Assembly?. The ASSEMBLEA PERMANENTE works as social readymade . As a mise en scene of an assembly in which the participants are real, but they act using their own social characters. The piece consists of an exercise concerning repetition; bringing to light ideas taken from the mythological past of the 70s in Italy, jumping to the present in order to reactivate the social imagination about a possible common future (or not). GERALD RAUNIG: Yes, this sounds like an interesting experiment: inventing a new territory using the old territorial refrains, not blindly repeating them, but repeating them with a difference, the specific difference of the actualities of the multiple crisis in Italy. ETCETERA: With this in mind, the meaning of peoples representation and participation have become ever more tenuous, the subject of much question and debate. What is the role today for the assembly as a method of political/social organization? GERALD RAUNIG: My thesis is that today there is a new need for finding new forms of condensation, of concentration, of reterritorialization. In times when the modes of production and the forms of life have become perfectly deterritorialized, and machinic subservience is the main mode of subjectivation, the crisis is not only one of capitalist economy or representative democracy, but also one of territories. So here the place is needed again, the place as territory (which is both a specific space and a specific time), a non-subservient reterritorialization amid the many subservient deterritorializations. ETCETERA: If the State has managed to break down any illusion of escape and that which remained outside the order of representation has become mere representation, could a theatrical machine, with its own representational force, return it to the nomadic space from which it comes? GERALD RAUNIG: Yes, I think this is definitely an interesting turn. Using certain forms of orgic, orgiastic, monstrous representation to invent and create a new existential territory of non-representationist nomadism. Here the theater machine is the potential icebreaker in a structure of apparatuses of capture, a destituent machine that allows for the invention of instituent practices, for the creation of a constituent power. ETCETERA: Moreover, do you believe that the assembly as a convergence of space (and as event) can produce new representational models? GERALD RAUNIG: I have to say, producing new representational models is not my main interest. Yet, assemblies, as ruptures in time and space of machinic subservience, but also as inventions of new reterritorialization of time and space, can produce new modes of molecular organization. Multitude, dispersion, multiplicity have quite evidently become part of the contemporary modes of production of machinic capitalism, of current ways of living, and yet they can hardly be found in forms of political organizing. The multitude has become the technical composition of post-Fordist production, but to a much lesser extent its political composition. On the contrary, existing forms of political composition seem rather to prevent a non-identitarian composition in a dispersed multiplicity than to foster it. Molar organization arises as striating reterritorialization and focuses struggles on a main issue, a main contradiction, a master. In a molecular world of dispersion and multiplicity, a different form of reterritorialization is needed, inclusive and transversal, beyond individual or collective privileges. In my view, we can find it in certain social struggles of recent years: free-space movements, struggles to retain social centers, protests against the limitations of housing space, university occupations, movements against evictions, in Italy the theatre occupations or the occupations of Lavoratori dellArte in the last year. In all of these movements, the occupiers have shown through their insistence and endurance that they take the specific spaces seriously in their materiality and set themselves up to live there, even if only for a limited time. Very much in the sense of recycling you were referring to in the beginning, the indignados, the occupiers of the central squares, and right at the moment again the precarious protesters on Tahrir Square reclaim an old phenomenon of political theory, the main square as the symbol of democracy. It is not the symbolism of the evacuated center that is their focal point of desire, but rather condensation, concentration, assembly, producing a rampant middle in the tangible and inventive practice of occupation, exactly there where the territory appears to be completely deterritorialized, apparently unusable for any social practice. There the occupiers take the space and time seriously that they set up, taking time for long, patient discussions and taking time to stay in this place, developing a new everyday life, even if only for a short time. And of course, this experience will remain in the bodies and souls of the participants. In this sense, the assembly really becomes permanent, an infinite assembly.

ASSEMBLEA (IN)FINITA
AN ERRORIST REPRESENTATION
The clarification of the meaning and significance of an act like preformance must, unavoidably, take note of the complexity and pluralism of its respective social and political elements. That is, we must direct our gaze to the inextricable bond which forms between a notion and its practical actualization. In this sense, the performance starting with the title, (In)Finite Assembly, an errorist representation, in all its refined uncertainty lays the foundation for reflection. We pose (In)Finite Assembly not as a discrete and complete process, but as the opening words for a script yet to be written. A script that formulates a description which is antithetical to the social and political biases that characterize the city of Bologna, because in doing so it reveals the ambiguities, weaknesses, and flimsy logic marking the disintegration of the dominant political body and the fragility of the opposing political body forming a response to this process of destabilization. The genesis of the Etcetera collective was born from a real moment; a moment that its members lived in first person, like spectators, with the enthusiasm and anguish of an unexpected show. Its conception took shape in a specific time and place: May 27th, 2013, Piazza Verdi, Bologna. Students and scholars, precariously employed temporary and contract workers; those against the impossibility to hold a public assembly in the piazza physically blocked by police and carabinieri in riot gear found themselves united and in solidarity in a way primarily material (which is the piazza as a physical place, wherein lies the freedom and privacy to pass through the space of their everyday lives). The answer is realized in rejecting the law enforcement together with their political commanders. In this way, an assembly, of all the subjectivity the piazza contains and releases, is established: A creative dimension of the resistence the immediate consequence of that crack which is now visible, now undeniable, inside the logic of comodified normalization, the abandonment of knowledge and livelihood both individual and collective. In liberation comes a new place and shape of conscious participation, which the institutional system naturally tends to eliminate, to recycle. It is this context that represents the starting point and, at the same time, preparation for workshop (In)Finite Assembly; a survey which chooses to feature the real subjects of this story, where the liberated piazza is the touchstone for the production of a new environment that connects to personal behaviors in a dynamic way. After exactly one month, the presentation after coming into being in a context which has generated and propelled it has absorbed student struggle, along with Bologna in general, and taken on a life of its own. The structure of the Etcetera collective's Errorism incorporates the unexpected the same unexpected that suggests a precarious existence forming a magnetic skeleton that attracts the uncertain and undefined of every social practice and phenomenon. All of the factors which have shaped the identity of Piazza Verdi over the years, all of the questions and tensions, redefine themselves in a brain storming session. Icons and symbols, blown-up photographs, forms and representations of figures in the political imagination (from small-scale academic Ivano Dionigi to the scale of Gezi Park's woman in red). Concentrated entirely around a symbolic black hole, (In)Finite Assembly, an errorist presentation transcends the boundary between reality and fiction. The actors (called from various italian movements), students and scholars, contracted and temporary laborers, activists, public and bystanders participate in and construct a moment that, between the absurd and the grotesque, reveals and structures the complexity, the fragility, the meaning (which must be continually re-appropriated), intensity and creativity of a real and communal assembly. A readymade social where the subjects represent their objectivity, detach from a fetishized affection for their identities and push to eradicate the social and economic roles prey to subservience of dominant powers.

APULCUYUZ
While C.R.I.S.I project was developed in Bologna, in other parts of the world (like Brazil or Turkey) other crisis has exploded. Here a conversation with Oda Projesi collective about the current situation in Istanbul. ETCETERA: In 2005 both collectives we met when we participated together in the Collective Creativity exhibition in Kassel curated by WHW. Already at that time you were working on the effects of the gentrification policies in urban areas of Istanbul, taking as an example the Galata quartier at the Beyolu district (where Oda Projesi has their office). At that time, the discussion about the loss and privatization of the public spaces and the gentrification wasnt the favorite subjects for the mainstream media and public debate (like today). Since then until now, how do you interpret this process of mass awareness about these problematic? ODA PROJESI: The period we started to work on these problematics in 1997, public space and gentrification was not a hot topic, there were small discussions but a more routine expectation that things will get better somehow. At that period there were changes on the city scale but comparing to the last years they were considered as small scale. But now there a big plans, big money and big dreams from the ruling ones on the top of the city. The use of techonologie to get correct information, news; such as the source of twitter and the impact of networking also quickened the mass awarness. Before it was more that you recognize the changes at the silent parts of the city, whereas now the battle field is at Taksim; at the spot of freedom in everysense. Gezi Park affect has moleculazed all that the region contains as a potential of different togetherness. ETCETERA: How Gezi Park works as a symbol and how do you understand this amazing level of social participation? ODA PROJESI: Gezi park has become a symbol once the unpredicted resistance occured and became permanent. Gezi is the peoples movement above political parties and agendas; it is at the street level, that means it is fresh and lively and unpredictable. Has a potential as a reply that can not be ignored. Gezi caused a new look to oneself and to city space; public gardens, public talks, public gestures all occurred from the individual will to resist. Nothing will be the same ETCETERA: In 2009 we meet again when we were participating in the Istanbul Biennia, and you were curating the Cultural Agencies project (together Nikolaus Hirsch and Philipp Misselwitz). In that occasion you bring us to visit the project office which was established in a little kiosk located in Glsuyu-Glensu, an extremely stigmatized and criminalized neighborhood since its population is mainly Kurdish and with an intense story of political struggles. Then in 2010 we made a residency and we work there for two months. We learn that those neighborhoods (called Gecekondu which mean built at night) were established informally as land occupations when immigrant groups from eastern Anatolia arrived in the early 60s. Since then it was one of the main targets for real estate speculation and the gentrification process on the other side of the Bosphorus. Based on the born of this new public space, anti-gentrification and resistance movement which explode in the epicenter of the town (Taksim) and not in the peripheral areas. How this current political situation could affect the life of the so call minorities? ODA PROJESI: This rather varies, there can be many affects but the positive affect we feel is the blurriness of the borders in between the so called minorities; more coming close together; to resist together. Gezi gave the chance to look up to yourself from the eye of the ruling and to see that it is not that you are but it is that you have been put into that category for the advantage of the system and the ruler. ETCETERA: If you still are in touch with some of the neighbors, what do you hear from their perception about the current context? ODA PROJESI: We are in touch with some of the neighbours from Glsuyu; most of them are part of the demonstrations and even one of the old ladies we had interviewed for the oral history was on the headlines of the newspaper throwing a stone to the police, half covered face; and she was accused for being a supporter of an illegal party. Also now as long as there are forums taking part in the squares of many neighbourhoods, they are also taking part. As Glsuyu Glensu is quite a conservative left wing neighbourhood; they now have the tendency to discuss what other ways occurred to resist, what is the new language of resistance. But as we hear, this is rather difficult, cause this situation also made visible many more fractions from 70s to wake up and rise up their voice also; the platforms at the parks will hopefully help these stand side by side for a new commitment. ETCETERA: Finally, the endless protests which are currently happen brings together an amazing level of creativity and artistic interventions which are shared and socialized with the whole society breaking the parameters and frontiers of the field of contemporary art. How do you imagine that this new context could affect the relationships and production of Turkish artists? And what about the role of the cultural institutions? ODA PROJESI: With Gezi Park actions there occurred the public creativity, which is anonymous. This being anonymous means or will mean a lot to artistic production and being the author of a work. For instance when there was still life at Gezi Park, people were discussing at this moment what is the use of Istanbul Bienalle, thinking on the issue of public? Bienalle is on the street in many means. Cultural Institutions can act as spots of meeting and discussing and remembering what has happened and what can happen. More in an archive mode Artistic production needs to be discussed after and during Gezi Park movement. ETCETERA: From the level of support and solidarity front of the State repression, do you see this moment as a kind of resurgence of a new social commitment? ODA PROJESI: This is absolutely a resurgence. This new commitment found out that thousands of potentials that occur to resist the system and to claim the rights of citizen and the city; were just sleeping. Now they are awake and hard to go back or sent back to sleep. ETCETERA: From those images, social performances and spontaneous interventions, which ones look more interesting for your perspectives as forms of response and/or as artistic practices? ODA PROJESI:Actions with musical and lyrical humor out of the routin of classical left wing actions and slogans are being created and these ones are the ones that have the potential to create potential perspectives. Twitter that has quite important impact on bringing prople together and producing the news has been seen as an enemy by the prime minister Erdoan. Duran adam so called standing man was one of the most effective and strong performances. The day that the governor of Istanbul has made a call to the mothers of the protesters to call their children back home; that night many mothers came to the square to support and stay with them at the park; was also a very strong reply. The famous football teams of Istanbul; Beikta, Fenerbahe and Galatasaray supporters came together under one uniform and even created a uniform carrying all the colours of the football clubs as a sign of togetherness; that was a big event even considering the history of these teams So to all the brutal, violent acts of the government there was a reply which was unpredictable and strong. And also now that we are replying you ( 8 july 2013 ) Gezi Park still has its new owners as the police; they open and close the park (entrances) as they want. So since 27th may 2013, the timeline of Gezi Park as a whole is the most strong artistic practice, one can learn a lot from.
