El cemento empleado para su construccin podra pavimentar toda la zona desde San Francisco hasta Nueva York.

Un Triste Dato: La atraccin de los suicidas por el Golden Gate es tal que muchos realizan un largo viaje hasta all para una vez en l, poner fin a sus vidas. El primer suicidio ocurri a las 10 semanas de inaugurar el puente, en 1937. Desde entonces ha habido 7 intentos de construir una barrera disuasoria en el puente. Se han debatido los costes y el diseo, pero las muertes han continuado. Hay registrados 1.218 suicidios, posiblemente hayan sido muchos ms.

Joseph B. Strauss tena una gran cualidad: la prudencia, de manera que para l la seguridad de los trabajadores fue siempre una gran preocupacin. A pesar de ello, no se pudo evitar la muerte de once personas durante los trabajos de construccin. Cabe decir tambin que esta gigantesca obra habra costado la vida de muchas ms personas si Strauss no hubiera mandado colocar redes de seguridad bajo el puente, ya que un total de 19 trabajadores sufrieron cadas desde una gran altura y fueron a parar al tejido de proteccin. Aparte de algunas lesiones, las 19 personas sobrevivieron para contarlo. Tras la conclusin de los trabajos, estos obreros fundaron el Half-Way-to-Hell-Club.
