The role of taxation in the development of society There are several reasons for a developing nation wanting to become a tax haven (A country or independent region where taxes are low). Some developing nations find that they dont need to charge as much tax as industrialised countries do to earn a sufficient income for their annual budget. Other nations may offer a lower tax rate to larger corporations, in exchange for these corporations opening a division of their company in the developing country. These companies then employ some of the local population and provide opportunities for income generation. Some developing nations also encourage multinational corporations to transfer need skills and knowhow to the local population. Taxation payments are compulsory and enforced by the legal system, some political philosophies view taxation as a theft (a violation of property rights) or as a tyranny, accusing the government of levying taxes by force or by coercive means. It can be argued, however, that in a democracy, the act of imposing taxes is the responsibility of both government and the society that elects the government-so it is really the society as a whole that decides how the tax system should be organized.
