UNICEFs Urgent Funding Requirements: June-August 2013

JUNE 2013

UNICEF urgently requires close to US$ 116.5m to undertake the following priority interventions over the next three months:
Syria (Total US$ 50m)
Health / Nutrition: $US 12 million to prepare for an extensive Child Health Days (CHD) Campaign to provide life-saving vaccinations, health education, and provision of ORS and nutrition items for children. WASH: $US 15 million to continue delivering clean drinking water to 10 million people, and to carry out emergency repairs and replacement of equipment during the hot summer months. Education: $US 15 million to purchase text books, school kits, and establish temporary learning spaces and distance-learning programmes, as well as summer remedial classes, and to ensure children return to learning at the beginning of the new school year in September. Child protection: $US 8 million to establish more child friendly spaces and to roll out a nationwide Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) campaign for children in schools.

Jordan (Total US$ 11m)

Health / Nutrition: $US 3.1 million to cover: health services in camp, host community, and transit sites targeting U-5 year age children; and counseling services, educational sessions for pregnant and lactating mothers as well as nutrition screening and supplementary feeding. WASH: $US 4 million for water trucking, dislodging and solid waste disposal in the newly established Azraq camp; water network expansion in Zaatri camp to reduce water trucking; and improvement water and sanitation conditions in extremely vulnerable households in host communities. Education: $US 1.3 million for establishing schools (including teachers salaries, school bags, equipment) in Azraq camp for 5,000 children and equipping school in EJC camp for 5,000 children; and for 20 additional prefabricated classrooms to be attached to schools in host communities for 1,200 children. Child protection: $US 2.6 million for host communities and for the new Azraq camp, to cover psychosocial support (including Child Friendly Spaces), separated and unaccompanied children, case management, protection monitoring, Child Protection Committees.

Lebanon (Total US$ 30m)

Health / Nutrition: $US 2 million to ensure 200,000 people have access to primary healthcare services and to ensure 400,000 children under 5 are immunized against measles. WASH: $US 11 million for continued provision of water and sanitation services to reach 70,000 refugees and host communities. Education: $US 13 million to ensure 100,000 children have access to inclusive quality education and protective learning environments. Child protection: $US 4 million to ensure 65,000 children have access to psychosocial support, are protected against explosive remnants of war and have increased access to safe spaces.

Iraq (Total US$ 15m)

Health / Nutrition: $US 1.6 million to ensure vaccination for 21,000 women and children. WASH: $US 10 million to continued provision of WASH services in camps for 24,500 refugees. Education: $US 1.7 million to ensure access to schools/learning programs for 5,000 children. Child protection: $US 1.7 million to ensure psychosocial support to 8,700 children.

Turkey (Total US$ 10m)

Health / Nutrition: $US 1.5 million for measles immunization and micro-nutrients. Education: $US 6 million for provision of classrooms and school supplies. Child protection: $US 2.5 million for psychosocial, recreational and sports activities for children in camps.

Egypt (Total US$ 500,000)

Health / Nutrition: $US 150,000 urgently needed to ensure 20,000 refugees with health needs have access to primary health care services, including women and child health care. Education: $US 350,000 to ensure that 13,000 refugees are ready for pre-school and primary school enrollment after the summer months.
