CPU: Central processing unit: the key component of a computer system, which contains the circuitry necessaryto interpret

and execute program instructions.

RAM: Perform necessary tasks while the computer is on; an integrated circuit memory chip allows information to be stored or accessed in any order and all storage locations are equally accessible .Is made up of small memory chips that form a memory module. Every time you open a program, it gets loaded from the hard drive into the RAM.

Expansion Card: Small circuit boards which are plugged into the main motherboard. They are used for controlling the video output, processing sounds, or communicating with modems and network cards. A circuit board that can be inserted in a computer to give extra facilities or memory.

Power Supply: Is a component that regulates and provides power to an electrical device. It receives power from a wall outlet, battery pack, or other electrical source and converts the current and voltage to the correct amount required by the connected device.

ATX Power Connector: Is a specification for motherboards created by Intel in 1995. ATX is a standard, allowing
many manufacturers to make components which are interchangeable and compliant with each other.

Hard Disk: Is a spindle of magnetic disks, called platters, that record and store information.

Sata Connector: Is an IDE standard for connecting devices like optical drives and hard drives to the motherboard. The term SATA generally refers to the types of cables and connections that follow this standard.

IDE Connector: Is the contact point between the longo flat ribbon cable and a hardware device. Normally they are used to connect a CD/DVD-ROM drive to the motherboard inside the computer using a ribbon cable.

CPU Fan Connector: In a computer creates the "hum" so often associated with the running of a computer. This fan performs a critical duty: cooling the CPU to prevent delicate parts from melting or overheating during use.

CPU Socket : Is a single connector between a microprocessor and motherboard. A CPU socket is a distinct mount used only for the CPU on the motherboard to ensure correct circuit chip insertion.

CMOS Backup Battery: Is the term usually used to describe the small amount of memory on a computer motherboard that stores the BIOS settings. The CMOS is usually powered by a CR2032 cell battery. Most CMOS batteries will last the lifetime of a motherboard (up to 10 years in most cases) but will sometimes need to be replaced.

Connector for integrated peripherals

PS/2: Is a type of port used by older computers for connecting input devices such as keyboard sand mice.

Serial Port: Is a type of connection on PCs that is used for connect peripherals such as mice, gaming controllers, modems, and older printers. It is sometimes called a COM port or an RS-232 port, which is its technical name.

Parallel Port : This interface is found on the back of older PCs and is used for connecting external devices such as printers or a scanners.

VGA: It is the standard monitor or display interface used in most PCs. Stands for "Video Graphics Array." Is a cable that connects .

Firewire/IEEE 1394a : A very fast external bus standard that supports data transfer rates of up to 400Mbps (in 1394a) and 800Mbps (in 1394b).

USB: Is the most common type of computer port used in today's computers. It can be used to connect keyboards, mice, game controllers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, and removable media drives, just to name a few.

Ethernet:
A system for connecting a number of computer systems to form a local area network, with protocols to control the passing of information and to avoid simultaneous transmission by two or more systems. A computer network architecture consisting of

various specified local-area network protocols, devices, and connection methods.

Audio: The circuits in a receiver for reproducing sound. Of or relating to acoustic, mechanical, or electrical frequencies corresponding to normally audible sound waves which are of frequencies approximately from 15 to 20,000 hertz.
