AMP was founded in 1996 to build PCs for NASA. The company developed expertise in IT service management (ITSM) and helpdesk solutions, and became an Altiris Apex partner. Symantecs acquisition of Altiris paved the way for our expansion into security, encryption, and other technologies, Sheridan saystechnologies that are natural extensions of ITSM and are most powerful when deployed in a well-managed IT environment. Today, AMP has over 50 employeesthe majority of whom are engineers and consultantsbased around the US. AMPs sizebeing not too big, nor too smallis one key to its success, Sheridan believes. We have a laser focus on the solutions we handle, but were big enough that were not a one-trick pony, he explains. We provide business solutions, not just IT projects. AMPs roots in ITSM can be seen in its Symantec practiceand particularly in its Master Specialization in Endpoint Management. Moving Ahead
The relationship between Symantec and AMP will soon grow even deeper, when AMP achieves Master Specialization in Mobility. BYOD has become the acronym of the year, Robinson says, referring to bring your own device policies under which many companies try to manage mobile devices. Symantec, with the Nukona acquisition, really spearheaded a solution around that. AMP is enthusiastic about Symantec mobile device management (MDM) because it integrates with Altiris as well as competing systems management solutions. This allows us to talk to customers regardless of what solution theyre using on the endpoint management side, Robinson says. A MDM solution that doesnt require a separate infrastructure is really how we see mobile management. He adds that managing both mobile devices and mobile applications (as Symantec MDM does) is key to security in BYOD environmentsand yet another demonstration of the power of IT in context The team at AMP is confident about the future of their relationship with Symantec. The word partnership means something to everyone we work with at Symantec, Robinson says. Its tremendous for us to work with an organization that knows what a partnership is, and values it.
