The ministry of the University Catholic Center is made possible in part by
support from our generous benefactors. If you wish to contribute the mission
of the University Catholic Center, please contact our Director of Develop-
ment, Elizabeth Lange, or visit www.utcatholic.org/support. Thank you!
Jesus compassion draws him to a widow whose only
son has died. Jesus brings the young man back to life
and gives him to his mother. While the people
initially react in fear, they eventually respond with praise to God.
Even in the midst of suffering and confusion, how do you still see
Gods loving presence? How do you share the compassion of Christ
with others, especially those who are suffering and in need?

Praying for Vocations
Praying for vocations with the Paulist Mission Cross. We promote
a culture of vocations when we pray for one another and encourage
one another to discern how God calls us to service and leadership in
the Church. Our joint UCC and St. Austin vocation committee
invites families or individuals to sign up to receive a Paulist Mission
Cross that will be given out each week at the end of our 10:30
am Mass. The volunteers will take the Mission Cross home with
them along with a book of vocation prayers and pray during the
week for vocations. They will then bring the Cross and prayer
booklet back the following week and another family or individual
will be invited to take it for prayer that week. Dont miss the op-
portunity to have a Paulist Mission Cross for a week in your
home. Sign up today at the UCC front desk to pray for vocations
for a week this summer!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SUMMER OUTREACH!
To any UCC students still in Austin over the summer break: the
UCC needs you to help us greet incoming freshmen during UT
Orientation Days! We need volunteers to greet passersby and
distribute UCC and St. Austin promotional materials at a table at
the corner of 21st and University Avenue, just outside the UCC
main doors. If you can volunteer a couple of hours of your time on
any of the following Wednesdays (June 12, 19, 26 & July 3, 10)
please contact Matthew Anderson (MatthewA@utcatholic.org).
Tornadoes in Oklahoma
Please join us in continued prayer for the communities affected by
the tornadoes in Oklahoma. Anyone wishing to lend a hand may

Our fiscal year ends on June 30
th
, and, as we
have reported the last couple of weeks, it
looks like we will have a shortfall of over
$20,000. In the atrium you can see a chart of
our UCC Finances that shows the difference
between our regular monthly gifts versus the
regular monthly expenses. The difference
each month is about $17,500. In the past we have looked to outside
fundraising efforts that are not always predictable or reliable. In
order to better plan and budget for our growing ministry, we
would like to increase our reliable income by $10,000 a month.

We will need everyones help to make up our current shortfall and
provide for the ongoing needs of the ministry. The best way you
can help us is by committing to a weekly or monthly gift, or by
increasing the amount you are currently giving.

If you are a resident community member you should have received
a letter from me last week asking you to prayerfully consider
making a financial commitment to the UCC. Included in the letter
is a pledge card that we would like you to return if you have not
already done so. The pledge card invites you to commit to a
monthly gift, increase your gift, or make a special gift to support
the ministry of the UCC. You can also stop by the table in the
atrium after Mass today and fill out a copy of your pledge
card. Even if you can't commit to a monthly gift or
increase your current giving, please stop by and sign your
pledge card today. Our Director of Development and I will be
following up in the next couple weeks to make sure that all pledge
cards are completed, so please help us by taking a minute or two to
return your pledge card or stop by after Mass and sign your pledge
card.

If you did not receive a letter and pledge card, please stop by at the
table in the atrium after Mass today where blank pledge cards are
available. Thank you for all of your ongoing support in helping us
form the future leaders of our Church and society.

St. Mary Magdalene July 22 at Cedarbrake
July 22 is the Feast Day of St. Mary Magdalene, who traveled with
Jesus as one of his followers. She was present at the two most im-
portant moment sin the story of Jesus: the Crucifixion and the Res-
urrection. We will spend the day reflecting on these events, as well
as her love and support of Jesus Christ. Beverly Collin will facilitate
the day. Cost is $35 (including lunch). For more information please
contact Beverly at beverly-collin@austindiocese.org.
FR. ISAAC HECKER QUOTE
Conscience is the only safeguard against sudden temptation. A
man may be in his counting room or his office, or in his shop. Or
he may be in public life or at his seat in some legislative
assembly. Or he may be living in his masters house, and by the
mere stroke of a pen or a word, or the altering of a figure, or the
grasp of a hand, or a nod of the head, he
may have the opportunity of acquiring
money dishonestly and without the fear of
detection. Overreaching ones neighbor,
cheating ones employer, bribery and
corruption, swindling and embezzlement
occur almost daily. I hesitate to say that if a
man when put upon by temptation will not
be loyal to the dictates of his conscience,
unless obedience to his conscience has
been his constant practice. (Sermon,
Fidelity to Conscience, 1863)
