QUALIFICATION LEVEL : COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This course is designed to equip individual with operational skills, knowledge and attitudes of Deck Seafaring NC III in accordance with industry standards. It covers core competencies such as perform marlinespike and canvass work; perform mooring / unmooring operations and perform supervisory functions. To obtain this, all units prescribed for this qualification must be achieved. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS : This section specifies the qualification of trainees and educational experience. Other requirements like health and physical requirements are also stated. Passing entry written examinations may also be indicated if necessary: Must be at least High School Graduate/BSMT/AMT; 18 years old and above; Must have at least 2 years sea service as Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) Must have completed a course on Ratings forming part of navigational watch from accredited training centers of TESDA / MTC Must have undergone a training course in General Tanker Familiarization Must have a good moral character Must have past the medical examination for eyesight and hearing as per TESDA Board Resolution No. 2002-21 Must be physically and mentally fit as per STCW 95

LO1. LAUNCH AND OPERATE SURVIVAL CRAFT AND LIFE BOATS ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: 1. Preparation for the launch of lifeboat or survival craft are made in accordance with vessels procedures and manufacturers direction 2. An appropriate launch strategy is adopted following an assessment of weather and sea conditions and the nature of the emergency situation 3. Launching equipment is operated in accordance with vessels instructions and accepted nautical practice 4. The survival craft engine is started using the sequence of actions provided in the manufacturers instruction 5. Appropriate handling strategies are applied to maneuver the survival craft in rough weather and sea conditions 6. Exposure cover is deployed on an open lifeboat in accordance with accepted survival practice and manufacturers specification 7. Strategies are adopted and implemented to counter threats to survival following the abandonment of a vessel in accordance with accepted survival practice 8.
