Minsi Lake Update

The water level at Minsi Lake is lowered temporarily as the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) prepares to make repairs to the lakes spillway this summer. According to Eric Levis of the PFBC, the plan is to replace several small concrete patches and seal the concrete joints and several cracks on the surface of the dams concrete spillway. That work is tentatively scheduled to be completed next month. Once the repair work is finished, the lake will be returned to its normal water level. The Department of Environmental Protection regards the dam as high-hazard and unsafe because the spillway is not large enough under current regulations. The classification is also warranted due to the potential for property damage and even loss of human life that could occur, should the dam fail. While the lower water level is an inconvenience for some, we are fortunate in that Minsi is not experiencing the problems being faced by some other highhazard, unsafe dams around the state. Nevertheless, the spillway does not meet current engineering safety standards and ultimately must be ultimately rebuilt. The PFBC manages 12 dams that were, or currently are, considered as high-hazard and unsafe. Minsi Lake is one of six dams which remain unfunded. The PFBC estimates it needs $43.1 million in construction funding to fix the six dams, including $3.1 million to rebuild the spillway at Minsi. While there is no current time table for draining the lake, please be aware that this project is inevitable and will take a number of years to complete. Questions should be directed to (570) 897-0401 or (610) 746-5090.

(NAPSI)You can lessen the aches and pains that can come from growing a beautiful garden if you heed the advice of gardening expert and author Melinda Myers: Vertical Gardening Garden up. Grow plants on a blank wall, fence or post. Height makes gardening easier and creates visual interest. Choose Your Tools WiselyLook for ergonomic grips, long handles and ratcheted tools to keep your posture upright, give you more power and make the grip easier. Leverage Heavy LoadsSplit up large loads into smaller increments. Use everyday items such as a wagon or winter sled to help you move supplies around. Take Breaks-Work fiveminute breaks into your gardening schedule to lower your likelihood of injury. Try easy back bends from the waist and dont work for more than 20 to 30 minutes straight. Stay attentive to weather and

flexibility: Do additional stretches or warm-ups if you feel stiff or cold. Keep Tools SharpFile trowels, shears and shovels. Dull tools mean more strain. If you follow all these tips and still wind up with back pain or you already have joint or low back pain, here are a few tips to alleviate acute pain: Heat and/or ice treatments Exercise, stretching techniques Visit a health care provider, such as a physical therapist or chiropractor, if after four weeks the pain has not lessened. Try over-the-counter medications such as Omrons 100 percent drug-free, nonprescription, electrotherapy pain relief unit. It can begin managing lower back pain, muscle and joint pain in about 15 minutes. As an avid gardener with two knee replacements, Im always in search of alternative tactics to combat joint

pain, said Myers. Electrotherapy treatment lets me garden without needing to stop due to the joint pain that often comes with kneeling, reaching and lifting. The unit uses Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) technology to deliver gentle, massagelike pulses for on-the-spot pain relief. Electrotherapy is commonly used by physical therapists to treat muscle and joint pain. To further help people reach their lifestyle goals, including enjoying gardening more, the company created the Great Garden Makeover Sweepstakes. Visit www.omronpainrelief.c om/sweeps before June 22 and enter for a chance to win $5,000 toward your dream garden, plus a one-hour free garden consultation with Myers. Additional prize packs, which will be given away weekly, include a pain relief unit, replacement pads and Melindas Garden Moments DVD. For additional tips on gardening and managing lower back and joint pain, visit www.omron painrelief.com. For further information, visit www.omron healthcare.com.

THE SKY IS NOT FALLING!!! I am passing on these thoughts regarding Real Estate and these current economic times. First let me ask Would you rather buy a house when the prices are $100,000 or $200,000? Would you rather buy stocks when the DOW is 9,000 or 15,000? (You missed out on that one didn't you?) Don't miss the Real Estate opportunities. Wealth is realized when the economy is booming but that is not when it is

created. Wealth is created when times are bad, unemployment is high, problems are massive, and there is nothing but economic misery on the horizon. The cyclical nature of our economy assures us that both the booms and the downturns will happen periodically. If you are one of the majority: 90%95% of the people who still have a job then THIS IS THE TIME that youve been waiting for! Whether you are ready to buy your personal home or get into the investment property business dont miss the current opportunity!! Feel free to call with any real estate related questions - The Great American Real Estate Company 610-863-6205.

Documentary filmmaking seems to be an informational way to bring interesting and sometimes unusual stories to the general public. Steve Abruzzese and Jen Suwak, both of Bangor, have recently finished a documentary called Pulling Teeth. Always on the lookout for subject matter and inspiration, Jen happened to notice a truck with a decal reading Equine Dentist. She approached the driver and asked exactly what he did as well as what his philosophy was on animal communication.

By Maria Cascario

I agreed with his thinking because Im an animal lover also, said Jen. I asked him if hed be willing to be the subject of a documentary. Steve said, In May 2012, we started to follow Dr. Baker to his jobs. We went to five different locations and filmed his everyday routine. We interviewed him each time and set up a formal interview. We spent a total of four months with him, including researching horse dentistry. The film has screened at several different film festivals including Phoenix International Film Festival, Crown

Heights Film Festival, and Three Rivers Film Festival in Pittsburgh where they won second place in the Shorts competition. The film is traveling at present as a Directors Choice in the Black Maria Film Festival. It also screened at Frozen River Film Festival n Winona, Minnesota and is going to play in Myrtle Beach. Their company is Roaming Dingo Productions, a locally based video production company and they are always interested in new projects.
