"LISTA TAXONOMICA PRETIMINAR DE LOS REPTITES VIVIENTES DEt PERU"

RESUMEN
Se presenta una lista de 365 especies de reptiles reportadas para el Pen hasta Abril de 1995. Se cita los nombres cientfficos y sus autores. Tambin se incluye la distribucin por ecorregiones y departunentos, en base a la informacin disponible en la literatura prtinente y en la coleccin herpetolgica del Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Pen.

ABSTR,ACT We present a list of 365 reptilian species reported for Pen until April 1995. We cite the scientific names and their authors. In addition, we record their distribution by ecological regions and political departments, aceording to information found in the pertinent literature and in the herpetological collections of the Museo de Historia Natural, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Per.

INTRODUCCION
Hasta el presente, son escasos los trabajos que presentan una visin panormica de los reptiles del Un primer esfuerzo fue la publicacin de Carrillo (1970) donde se hace una referencia general a la fauna peruana de reptiles. En un trabajo posterior sobre nombres populares, Carrillo (1990) enumer 158 especies. McNeely et al. (1990) indicaron que se conoca 297 especies del Pen, sin ofrecer una lista de ellas, y Henle & Ehrl (1991) presentaron una lista parcial de especies peruana, con 104 registros. Otros autores importantes, que se han referido a la Herpetofauna peruana en sus publicaciones, son Peters & Orejas-Miranda (1970), Peters & Donoso-Barros (1970) y Vanzolini (1986) para los Squamata; Medem (1983) para los Crocodylia; y Pritchard & Trebbau (1984) y Mrquez (1990) para los Testudines.

Motivo del presente trabajo fue reunir la variada informacin dispersa sobre los reptiles hallados en el Pen, para elaborar una lista taxonmica preliminar, que ofrezca datos actualizados sobre las
especies de reptiles que han sido registradas hasta el momento para el pas.

METODOLOGIA

La presente lista se elabor en base a la informacin contenida en la literatura pertinente y la coleccin herpetolgica del Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (MUSM). Tambin se consult la coleccin del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, Institucin Smithsoniana, Washington, D.C. (USNM).
Se ha seguido el mismo patrn de presentacin de la <<Lista Preliminar de los Anfibios del Pen>> (Rodrguez et al., 1993). El nombre de Ia especie, autor, y ao de descripcin van en la primera lnea. Las especies con localidades tipo en el Pen; se sealan con un asterisco (*), las que estn reportadas slo para Pen se indican con dos asteriscos (**), y aqullas que han sido citadas para Pen, pero sin precisar localidad ni distribucin, estin anotadas con un rombo (l). En la segunda lnea se indica

abreviadamente la(s) ecorregin(es) donde habita dicha especie

En la Lista Taxonmica, las categorfas infraordinales han sido presentadas en orden alfabtico. La clasificacin adoptada para las ecorregiones es la propuesta por Brack (1986) (Mapa l), que considera las siguientes:

Mar fro de la Corriente Peruana (MFR) Comprende el Pacfico Oriental, desde los 5"S, hasta Chile central.

MarTropical (MTR)
Se extiende desde los 5'S, hasta Baja California, EE.UU. Desierto Costero (DCO) Ubicada en la costa del Pacfico, desde los 5'S, hasta el lmite con Chile. Su ancho vara entre 20 y 100km y su altitud va desde el nivel del mar hasta aproximadamente 1.000m. Bosque Seco Ecuatorial (BSE) Faja costera de 100-l50km de longitud, al oeste de los Andes. Ocupa los departamentos de Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque y La Libertad, hasta los 7"40'S, ingresando al valle del alto Ro Maran hasta los 9'S, por debajo de los 2.800m. Bosque Tropical del Pacfico (BTP) Pequea extensin en el interior del Departamento de Tumbes, en la cuenca del Ro Zarumilla. Serrana Esteparia (SES) Comprende la Vertiente Occidental de los Andes, desde el Departamento de La Libertad ((7"40'5), hasta la frontera con Chile (18'20'5), entre los 1.000 y 3.800m. Incluye el Valle del Ro Santa. Puna (PUN) Comprende la Vertiente Occidental de los Andes y las alturas andinas sobre los 3.8(X)m, desde el Paso de Porculla hasta el Sur del Per. Tambin incluye los valles interandinos y las alturas de la Vertiente Oriental de los Andes, por encima de la lnea del bosque. Pramo (PAR)

Sobre los 3.500m, en los Departamentos de Piura y Cajamarca (Cuencas altas de los ros Chinchipe, Huancabamba y Quiroz). 9.- Selva Alta o Yungas (SEA) Vertiente Oriental de los Andes, entre los 600-3.500m, penetrando en las partes altas de las cuencas del Maran, pero tambin incluyendo las cabeceras de los ros Zaa, Jequetepeque, La I-eche, Piura y Chira, al oeste de los Andes. 10.- Selva Baja o Bosque Tropical Amaznico (BTA) Comprende el Llano Amaznico y la Vertiente Oriental de los Andes por debajo de 600m. 11.- Sabana de Palmeras (SAP) Sabana de las Pampas del Ro Heath, Madre de Dios (sureste del Per).

DISCUSION
Se registran 365 especies de Reptiles para el Penf, distribuidas en 120 gneros (Tabla l). Hay 16 especies de Testudines, 186 de Serpentes, 158 de Sauria y 5 de Crocodylia. De ellas, 98 son de distribucin restringida (endmicas), representando el27 Vo del total.

Reportamos a Botriechis schlegeli (Berthold, 1846) como un nuevo registro para el Pen, de la localidad de El Caucho, departamento de Tumbes. Los cambios taxonmicos producidos, a diferentes niveles, despus de la publicacin del Catlogo de los Squamata Neotropicales (Peters & Donoso-Barros, 1970; Peters & Orejas-Miranda, 1970) y de las adiciones y correcciones a ste por Vanzolini (1986), son incluidos en Ia presente lista. L,os ms saltantes son, por ejemplo, la divisin de la vieja familia lguanidae en varias otras, de las cuales estn
representadas en nuestro pas Hoplocercidae, Iguanidae, Polychrotidae y Tropiduridae (Frost & Etheridge, 1989). Tambin estamos usando la familia Gymnophthalmidae, que ag.rupa los microteiidos de la antigua familia Teiidae (Presch, 1983). Henle & Ehrl (1991) ubican a nuestros vipridos en la familia

Crotalidae, pero preferimos seguir la clasificacin de McDowell (1987) y mantenerlos en la familia Viperidae. Varios vipridos que estuvieron incluidos en el gnero Bothrops, han sido colocados ahora en Bothriopsis y Porthidium (Campbell & Lamar, 1989). Nuestras especies de Rhadinaea fueron ubicadas en Taeniophallus (Myers & Cadle, 1994). Para el gnero Chironius hemos seguido el ordenamiento de Dixon et. al. (1993). No se menciona el gnero Ophryoessoides, pues pas a ser considerado sinnimo de Stenocercns (Cadle, l99l; Frost, 1992). Frost (1992) introdujo cambios en Tropidurus, incluyendo en ste a los gneros Plicay (Jracentron, y excluyendo aquellas especies que habitan nuestro desierto costero, trasladadas al gnero Microlophus, a excepcin de l<oepckeorum, qe fue incluida en e[ nuevo gnero monotpico Plesiotnicroloplas. Otros nombres tradicionalmente usados, y que en la actualidad han sido sinonimizados son: Chelonia mydas (= Ch. agassiui) paralas poblaciones del Pacfico (Mirquez, l99O); Liolaemus multifonnto (= L. signifer) (Laurent, 1992); Mabuya mabouya (=lvl. bistriata) (Rebougas-Spieker, l98l); Tupinambis nigropunctatus (=T. teguixin) (Presch, 1973);y Hemidactylus peruvianus (=H. garnotii) (Kluge & Eckardt, 1969). Aunque Campbell & Lamar (1989) incluyen en el gnero Micrurus a dos especies (M. narducci y M. scutiventris), nosotros mantenemos la nomenclatura usada por Roze & Bernarld-Carlo (1987), quienes las ubican en Leptomicruru.r. El gnero Geochelone es an objeto de controversias nomenclaturales; segn Crumly (1984), ste es un amplio conjunto parafiltico, mientras Bour (1984) y Cei (1993) van ms all, separando carbonaiay denticulata de Geochelone e incluyndolas en Chelonoidis. Para los propsitos de esta lista mantendremos el uso tradicional de Geochelone. 2t

No incluimos en esta lista, a Peltocephalus dumerilianus. que es citada slo por su nombre popular (Guacamayo Charapa) por Mittermeir et al. (1980), pues tal registro no est respaldado por un especmen en coleccin. Myers, et al. (1993) citan al gnero Phenacosaurus para el Pen, pero sin precisar la especie o localidad.
