All of the abovestudents gave similaraccounts of theiractions on the 04-20·99 attackat Columbine High School. The above
students were all in theTech Labwhen the firealarm sounded. Several oflhe students alsoreportedbearing "pops"or gunshots
afterthe firealarm sounded. The students thenexitedthe Tech Lab and intothe hallway where they observed several students
running in the hallway, Therewas smoke in the hallway andstudents Sara Blackford and Cassandra Jacobson reported seeing
the glass broken out of the main school doors, The students then exiledthe school through the north side doorsand ran to
Clement Park. StudentMargaret Hainsreported hearing thesound of ricocheting bullets(approximately 4-5)as she exitedthe
school through the Bandroom doors,

EVIDENCE COLLECTION AT COLUMBINE H.S. DATED 4-21-99

On 4-21-99. at about 1200 hours. 1 wascontacted by Sgt. Pat Wwdin.JCSO.who directed me to contactteamleader Ray Booras.
concerning evidence collection.
At about 1210 hours. on this date 1contacted Sgt. Ray Booras who advised rhat Investigator Vette. JCSO. and I would be
collecting evidence on the southandwestsideof the school. Sgt. Booras advised we would be assisting FBl Agent Carle Schlatf
At about 12S0 hours Investigator Vette and [met with Agent Schlaffon 'he west side of the school where he had set up an
evidence collection point. Agent Schlaff advised that the fBI had supplied evidence technicians to include individuals to
photograph. mark. and identify evidence. I advised AgentSchlalfthat Ihad been directed previously by Technician Chris Andrist
that lCSO personnel would physically pickup bag and tag all evidence collected. It was decided that Investigator Vette would
document the evidence collected, and ! would physically pickup andbag. tag. and submitthe evidence to the JCSO's temporary
idencecollection area.
Between 1300 and 1130 hours. Investigator Vette. the FBI team.and I identified. photographed. and collectedall evidence on
the south/west and west side of the building. Each item Was bagged. tagged. and initialed and were given pre-designated
numbers.
FBI Evidence Technicians also measured the location in whicheach item was found and collected.
At about 1130 hours. this date our evidence collection teamconducted a meeting wherein Agent Scnlaffadvisedthat the FBI
would providedetailed reports, diagrams. and phorogrnphs of the evidence collection.
Atabout1930 hours, investigator Vetteand I wentto the temporary evidence collection pointand turnedin allevidence collected
on the south/westand west side of Columbine H.5.

DETAILS:
On 5-18-99, I went to the Albertson's located 9052 West Ken Caryl Avenue, Littleton. Colorado for the purpose of foltcwmg
lJ!la lead. control ~2415, whereina citizen observed possible trench coat type wearingindividuals banging OU! at the Albertson',
parlcing lot between 9,00 a.m, and 9, 15 a.m. on 4-20-99.
On 5-\8-99, at about 1600 hours, I contacted PatriciaSznip, the assistant vice president of the Bank One located inside the
Albertson's located at 9052 West Ken Caryl Avenue. LIttleton. Colorado, for die purpose of reviewing the bank surveillance
camera rape.
SZIlip swed she would contact security (Jim Brady) to which she did. [talked withJim Brady who advisedhe wouldreview the
tapes from the satellite location between 3:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m, on ';'20-99.
On 5-19-99. I was contacted by Jim Brady who advised me thathe did observe anybody matching the descriptions on the lead
sheet,duringthat period of time.
On 5-18-99, [also contacted the store manager at the Albertson's who advised that she would have to contact her security
department to see if she was able to release the tape from ';'ZO-99.
On 5-19-99, I contacted the store manager again who gave mea cOllY of the tape of their sUl"'/eillance cameras on 4-20-99. The
store manager advised that the surveillance camera only viewed the area in front of the customer service counter.
On 5-20-99, [ completed my viewing of the tape taken from the Albertson's Store located at 9052 West KenCaryl Avenue, and
found no individual. matching the descriptions on the lead.

on Wednesday, 04-21-99 at approximately 2300hrs I was assigned to ehe traffic
control point at the northwest entrance to Clement Park off of West Bowles Avenue.
I remained at that post until relieved in the morning at about 080ohrs.
on Thursday, 04-22-99 at approximately 2300hrs I was assigned to the traffic

control point at the southea.st entrance to Clement Park. off of South Pierce
Street. I remained at that post until relieved in the morning at about 0800hrs.
Nothing of any significance ocourred during either shift.

INVESTIGATION:
On 4-20-99, I Was instructed by Sgt. Randy West to respond to Columbine High School due to the fact that a shooting was in
progress. Myselfand Investigator AI Simmons responded to Columbine High School, arriving at approximately 1142 hours.
Upon my arrival. I wasadvised by the Command Postthatwitnesses werecoming from the High School and that they wished
for me to assist in interviews of people in order to obtain information on whomay be a suspect inside of the school.
At approximately 1205 hours, I contacted TomJohnson, who is a teacher at Columbine High School. He advised that him and
another teacher. Rick Bath, werecorning backfrom theirlunch hour, which they had taken off of campus. He advised as hewas

On 05.06-99, Investigator Al Simmons requested that! attempt contact with Dr. James Mault in reference to the surgery that he
performed on the victim, Mark Taylor, in order to ascertain if any projectile had been removed from his body during the
operation,
On 05.()7·99, I contacted Dr. James Mault'S assistant, Michelle Nelson, who advised me that Dr. Mault did not remove any
projectiles from the victim's body and stated that in fact Dr. Mark Nehler had performed the operation on the chest area.
Attempts were made to contact Dr. Mark Nehler reference this surgery. I received a message back from Dr. Mark Nehler on 5-7.
99, wherein he advised me that there was an entrance and exit wound involving the victim and that no projectile was removed
from him. This Information will be forwarded to Investigator Al Simmons.

On April 20, 1999, at about J 1:25 AM, Investigator Ralph Gallegos and I were informedof "shots fired" call at Columbine
HighSchool,with multiple 911 calls,and possiblemultipleinjuries. Wewent to Columbine High Schoolfrom the Mountain
Precinct, arriving at about II :50 AM. We remainedon scene at wt location for the remainder of the day, assisting with
interviews of studentsand staff members of the schoolas they wereevacuatedby SWATpersonnel.
My first interview of that afternoonwas with a student named Michael Bogacz. Bogacztold me that he had been in classat
about II :20 to 11:30 AM, and he suddenlyheard what sounded like gunshots somewhere in the school. Bogacztold methat
theshots that heheardsoundedlikeeither"shotgunsor a big handgun." Shortlyafter heheard theshots fired. the school's fire
alarm went off. The teacherof his class told the studentsto leavethe building. Bogacz, told me that he did not see anyone
actuatly firing any weapons, but he noticed that the front doors of the school were "shot out" when he ran out the doors.

School studentnamedBrooksBrown. Accordingto Agent Lichtenberg. BrooksBrown told her that he was on his wayoutthe
doorof theschoolgoingto lunchwhenhe metEricHarriscoming towards the schoolfromthe parkinglot. BrooksBrown said
that he noticed that Eric Harriswas carrying"a weirdlooking duffle bag" as he approached. When Eric Harriswalkedup to
him, he reportedly said to Brooks Brown, "Y like you. Get out of here." BrooksBrown said that he left the school property
immediately.

BrooksBrownalso provided a description ofEricHarris, describing him as a whitemale, about5'11"tall,weighingabout 140

pounds, withshortblond hair. BrooksBrownsaidthat Harriswas dressedin black. BrooksBrownalso told AgentLichtenberg
that Harris' best friend was named Dylan Klebold, and he described Kleboldas a white male, about 6'4" tall, "skinny" with
nedium browncurly hair that was collar length, BrooksBrownalso said that Klebold had acne scars on his face.

INVESTIGATION;
On. April 21 1999. I was assigned to evidencecollectionteamnumberseven,which assumedresponsibilityfor the collection

of evidencein the Administrative Officesand the adjacent hallways to the west and north ofthe offices. Members of thisteam
included detectives and lab personnel assignedtoDenverPolice Department's Homicide unit, and their namesare listed in the
"WilI1ess" section oflhis report. At about I:30PMon April21. 1999, teamnumberseven conducteda "walk through" of the
administrative offices. For the purposes of the evidence log. I dividedthe evidence collection into two parts, the portion
completed during the time period up to and including about5:30PM (Team 7A)and the periodafter about 5:30 PM (Team
18). Team 7A consistedof detectives and lab personnel normally assigned to the day shift, andTeam 7Bincludeddetectives
and lab personnel normallyassignedto the eveningshift of Denver PO's Homicide Unit.
When we entered the Administrative Offices we notednumerous shell casingsevident in the area behind the desk normally
occupied by Susan White, and also in the area directly in front of the desk normally occupied by Mrs. Anna Cabrera.
Immediatelyuponenteringtheofficearea fromthe frontdoor,wesawthata numberof itemshadapparently beenthrown down
onto the floorincludinga large multi-tiered sectionofmail slots that had been tippedover on itsside. The contents of the mail
slots had been dumped out onto the floor.
Immediately behind that mail area.were the windows that faceeast fromthe Administrative Offices. There was somebroken
potteryononeof the windowsills.and some Venetianblindswhichhadapparently beendamaged when that potteryhad been
thrownagainst the window. There was morebrokenpottery and unbroken pottery lyingon the groundbetweenthe mailslots
and the windows. Also on that samesection ofwindow sill was a trophy that had a defect that appearedto have beencaused
a projectilesimilarto a bullet. We laterrecoveredwbatappeared to be bullet fragments fromthe wood of the trophyand seized
them as evidence.

into the knee-hole area behind the desk. The windowimmediately behindSusanWhite's desk had numbersof defectsin the
window, Venetian blinds, and the window sin thai appeared to have been caused by projectiles similar to bullets. Later

have beencaused by a bullet or similar projectile. Thatmonitorwas later photographed as Item# 39 and seizedas evidence
item #2439. We also seizedthe portion of the window sillcontaining four(4) holesthat appearedto be bullet holes(evidence
item # 2440) and several possible bullet fragments that we found inside of the wall under the window sill (evidence item
#2441). The Venetianblinds were also seizedas evidence (Item# 2431).
Behind (to the north of) the desk normallyoccupied by SusanWhitewas an office door labeled "Assistant Principal." The
windowofthe office door was broken out and the blindswere hanging outsidethe door. Those blinds covereda nameplate
that said "Dr. MariaReschke."
At the juncture of the main Administrative Offices and a short hallway that leads west from Dr. Reschke's office to the
\ttendance Office and Clinic, we founda television monitorthat is suspended from the ceiling which had a large hole in the
lower left base area of the monitorand throughthe bracket holdiilg the television monitor. On the floor close to the juncture
of this short hallway and the main office area, we also found an empty 12 gauge shotgun shell and metal fragments that
appearedto havebeen blownoffofthe bracketholdingthe television monitor. We latercollectedthe entire television monitor
(Item# 2429a), the base of the bracketholding the television monitor(Items # 2429b), the emptyshotgunshell (Item # 2412),
and the metal fragments (Items # 2408 and 2409).
As wewalkedwestalong the corridorfromDr. Reschke'soffice,the next officeto the west was labeled"AssistantPrincipal,"
and belowthe windowofthat door was the nameplate"Mrs. Karen Studenka." There was a defect in the wall to the rightof
that doorway that appearedto havebeencausedbya projectile similar to a bullet.A bullet fragment was later collectedfrom
this officeandplacedinto evidence. The nextofficeto thewestalongthat samecorridorwas labeledat the top ofthe doorway
"Social Worker." All ofthose officeswere open.and all of the lightswere on, as werethe computersand personal radios in
some of the offices.

similarto a bullet. Hangingfrom its cord was the telephone handsetfor that telephone. The actual handset was lyingon the
floor, and it also had a defect that appeared to have been causedby a projectile similar to a bullet. The bole in the handset
corresponded to the hole in the base of the telephone ifthe handset werereplacedin the cradle. We also noteda defect 011 the
splashboard of the countertop immediately behind and tothe westof thetelephone base,andsome debristhatappearedto have
come from the westernmost wall below a cabinet. A bulle! or bullet fragment was later recovered from the wall underthe
cabinet.
We continued west down the same hallway from the Attendance Officeto a door at the west end of that hallway that was
abeled"Clinic." Abovethe label"Clinic"wasthename"Catherine Baumgartner." As weenteredthe clinicarea,immediately
in frontof US was a small lavatorywith a corresponding label stating"Clinic Lav" beside the door. There was a blackmetal
coal tree that was balding the lavatorydoor partiallyopen.and there were twojackets bangingon the coat tree andtwo more
jackets lyingon thefloorofthe lavatory. There wasalsoa small rectangular holein the wall boardapproximately eight inches
abovethe floor, immediately to the left ofthe lavatory door. Thisholewasabout2 Yi to 3 inches high, andappeared to match
the dimensions of the legs of me coat tree. There appeared to gypsum dust transferon one leg ofthe coat tree that looked
similar to the gypsum dust around the rectangularhole in the wall.
As we continued into the clinic area, we noted a defect similarto a bullet hole in the windowalong the east wall ofthe clinic.
This window looks into the Attendance Office area. This window is a solid (non-opening) window, and the defect was
apprcximately in the center of the window about fourto five inches above the window sill. We also noted that there was an
empty 9mm shell casing lying on the floor of the clink

All evidenceitemslater recovered fromthe Attendance OfficeandClinicarea wereoriginallyplacarded with numbers 1·1 S,
but were collected as evidenceitems 2501·2515. Someevidence numbers fromthls area were inadvertently also assigned to

In the area immediately outside of the clinic door, we foundanother spent bullet lying on the hallway floor. This bullet was

A short distance north of the clinicdoorwayis a set ofdoubledoors labeled"Counseliag," When we checked the Counseling
offices, we found no items of evidentiary value, or obvious damage that appeared to be caused by either bullets or other
projectiles, hut we did find damageto a couple of doors that appearedto have been caused by police personnel whenthey had
to force the doors to check the interior offices. The Counseling officealso bas a doorway at the east end that leads back into
another sectionof the AdministrativeOffices and to a teacher workroom.
... we continuednorthalongthe north-south hallway, at the extremenorth end there were two double glass doors that leadout
of the building. Also on the right side of the hallway at the end there was another double door labeled "Post Grad Center."
The lightswere on and the computerswere runningin that room, but we found no itemsofevidentiary value, and no apparent
damageor other inconsistencies within that room.
We did not check any of the rooms in the next ballway,which runs along the north side of the Administrative Office, and is
perpendicularto the previouslydescribednorth-southhallway. We founda second north-southhallway whichran north from
the east-west hallway. It began approximatelyfortyto fifty feet to the east ofthe junction with the first north-southhallway.
In these two hallways, we found holes in two of the ceilingtiles. One of those was in the east-west hallway about halfway in
betweenthe junctions of the two north-south hallways, close to the north wall. We marked the wall adjacent to this hole in
the ceiling tile as #2462. Examination later showedno obviousevidence in the ceilingareato show that this hole might have
been caused by a bullet or similar projectile. This hole was photographed, but no evidence was collected at this location.
At the south edge of the ceiling section immediatelyabove the junction of the east-west hallway and the second north-south
hallway, we founda second bole in the ceiling tile. We markedthe wall adjacentto this holeas #2463. Later examinationdid
rotshow any othercorrespondingdamagein the ceilingarea that wouldindicatethat this bole was caused by a bullet or similar

inside of the second north-south hallway, we found a label that said "Wing Hall" on the west side of that hallway.
Approximately fourfeetfromthat label, we foundwhatappeared to bebloodsmearedalong thewall. A sample ofthispossible
blood was latertakenas evidence (Items 2464aand 2464b).
As we continued alongthis secondnorth-south hallway, we found tbat all of the doors along the hallway bed beenbreached.
apparently bySWAT teamswhentheywereclearingthe building. One door had been removed from its hinges. and somehad
beenopenedusingsometypeof explosive breaching device adj acent tothedoorhandle. Atthe extremenorthendof thesecond
north-south hallway we foundanotherglass exit door. Just southof the exit door there was a short hallway that leads to the
Band Room and a room marked "A. C. E." On the wall between the Band Room and A. C. E. doors we found another
'xownish-red stain that resembled blood A sample of this stainwas later takenas evidence(Items112470a and 2470b).
As we continued on our walk through, we completed our examination of the rest of the east-west hallway which leads to the
hack(north) door of the Administrative Offices. Thisdoorwas labeled "Admin Hall." Immediately insideofthis hallway we
saw a total often doorways, five on the east side and fiveon thewest side. The first door on the right (west)sidejust inside
of the hack(north) doorwas marked"ADM·6"besidethe door, andthe dooritselfwas labeled "CampusSupervisor" overthe
window of the door. Underthe door window was the name"Ms. SydKeating." Inside of this office we foundevidence of a
possiblebulletstrike On one of the walls,and we also found the surveillance systemfor the scbool. The videorecorder had
beenunplugged and one surveillance rapewasstill insideof thatrecorder. All of the surveillancevideotapes andsurveillance
equipment from this office were later collected as evidence (Items 112465, 2466, 2467, 2468, and 2469). We also later
recovered a bullet fragment from the west wall of that room.
Examination of the rest oftbe officesin this partlcularnanway showedno obvious evidenceof damage. bulletstrikes. or other
items of evidentiary value.

Also photographed and collected as items of evidence were items #37 and 38 (2437 and 2438 on the evidence log) which
appeared to be projectiles or bullet fragments that had originate from within the school. and had ended up outside of the
buildingon the lawn to the east of the Administrative Offices. or on the sidewalk outside of the East entranceof the school.
Wewere able to plot possible tra]ectories of the bulletsor bullet fragments based upon our examination ofthe evidence and
holes in the windows ofthe Administrative Offices. which showed that thosebulletsor fragments mayhavecomefrom within
be Administrative Office area. We also photographed furrows in the lawn area that appearedto havebeen caused by bullets
or similarprojectiles. Examination ofthe lawn area by JeSO Technician VickySpelman using a metal detectordidnot yield
any further bullet fragments. TechnicianSpelmanfound numerous drywall nailsin the lawnarea during her examination, but
these were not collected as evidence.

as evidence items 2501-2515, as noted in detail earlier in this report. Itemsphotographed and collected from the hallways
adjacent to tile Administrative Offices and from the SecurityOffice were placarded. photographed, and collected as items
#2461 through 2471.
Denver PD Detectives measured and photographed possible bullet trajectories for each of the bullet fragments that they
recovered. Detailsof thisexamination can be found in theirreports. All items of evidenceweregivento me. and I maintained
care. custody. and control of those itemsuntil I transferred custody of those itemsto the evidencecustodian.

that two weeks prior to the Columbine High School incident, he and his friends (unknown names), who were at Funplex•
. erheard a kid named "Jeff', and a couple of"JelT's" friends talking about what was going to happen, He described "Jeff"
as about 6'01 ", long braided hair, with green eyes, The namesof all these individuals were written up On Information Control
Sheets for assigned follow-up.
On 04-20-99, I spoke with R-l Schools Security Officer Jill Blackburn. Blackburnadvised me she had found Website pages
for individuals connected with the Trench Coat Mafia. All Website information was forwarded to Captain Dan Harris.
Blackburn faxed me several pages of Website information she had obtained off of the Internet under the Web page of
http:\\bigsun.wbs.nef,homepages\r\elblrebthejuvey\rebthejuvey.htlm. The home page Website found on this was
http:\\members.AOLcom\rebdomine. These pages of informanon contained poetry, which spoke of someone coming to take
their place as an anarchist. and also of restlessnessand unexpectedness about apocalypse, and massive attack, atomic blasts.
chaos and panic. detonations in a distance, apocalypse. walls of flame and smoke, and being born to kill. There was also
information on how to make a bomb.

INVESTIGATION
On 4-28-99, at about 0900 hour:s, [met withwitness William Hanifen and bis mother. witness Peggy Hanifen, at theirresidence.
6404 W. Leawood Drive. WilliamHanifen advised me of the following,
William Hanifen said on 4-20-99.at about [015 hours he wentintothecafeteria ofColumbine H.S. He saiddue to the fact that
he bad founh hOUT off he was in thereearlierthanhe usually was. William Hanifen said that he sat at a tablejust inside one of
the doors in the south/west corner of the cafeteria. He said lhat when he sat down he put his backpack on top of the table.
William Hanifen said thai Justin Cozart wassitting just to hisleftanda female known only at thistime as Lisa wassiningacross
lhe table from him. William Hanifensaid suddenly he sawother people inside of the cafeteriagetting out of their chairs and
'emng underneath the tables, and then he heardthejanitoryellingto get under the tables. so he did as well. William Hamfen
said he couldhear gunshots fromsomeone eithershooting in Or nearthe cafeteriaarea of the school, William Hanifen said he
alsosaw otherstudentsrunningawayfrom thecafeteria and upthe stairs. William Hanifen saidhe stayedunder the table ,U this
time. and he estimatedit was approximately .20-25 minutes. William Hanifen said then a fire was startedncarthe table he was
underneath, so he and the other two underthe tablegotupandran oUI of the cafeteria door thai was nearest to the tabletheyhad
beensealedat. William Hanifen said whilehe wasunder thetablehe couldhear thetwo suspects talking, however hecouldnot
recall whathe heard them talking about, William Hanifen said he did not however. actuallysee the suspects. so therefore he
wasunableto describe them. William Hanifen advised me that he didnot see any duffel bags in the cafeteria, however. it would
havebeendifficult for him to see someone witha duffel bag or carrying a duffel bag.or even a duffel bag laying on the floor due
to the fuCI there were so manybackpacks that were in thecafeteria, William Hanifen said he left his backpack in the cateteria
on top of the table. that he had he originally wentto in the cafeteria. I asked WilliamHanifen about the trench coat mafia and
he said he does not know them personally, but he does know whothey are. and that they wear long trench coats in the school.
He also described them as "weird." William Hanifen saidhedoes not recall ifhe saw any of the trench coat mafia studentsin
the day prior to the incident, which wouldhave been April 19. 1999. He said he does not have any further information as far
as the trench coat mafia students.

I asked William Hanifen what he bad been wearing on the day of the incident on April 20, 1999. He said he believes he was
wearinga blue long sleeve shirt and faded bluejeans. He also said thai Lisa, whileshe was underneath the table said she had
felt empty ammunitionshells rolling offof the table and hitting her on her body. No further information available on Lisa or
Lisa's locationat this time.
When Lisa is identifiedshe will be interviewed as a witness to this incident also.
Peggy Hanifen advisedmethat her olderson. Luke Hanifen, wasin the library andthen the restroom, when the incident occurred,
He was nOI home for me 10 interview,he was in Fort Collins. Colorado.
William Hanifen said the only informanon he has heardsince the incident was from Bethaney Campbellwho toldhim that Robin
"riderson bad told her that she hought the guns that were later usedby the suspectsin this incident.

agent Price and ten him the reasons why Michael Chalupa did not want to be interviewed.

On 6-15-99, I interviewed Trista Fogarty at her residence. During this interview, Trista advised me that Leigh Ann Clark had
told her that on 4-20·99, while Leigh Ann was in the cafeteria at Columbine High School, she saw~n the cafeteria
shooting a weapon. Through this statement made by Trista on 4-20·99, I contacted Leigh Ann Clark by telephone on 6-16-99
to interview her about the information I had received from Trista. Leigh Ann Clark advised me that she did not see anyone with
a firearm shooting in the cafeteria at Columbine High School on 4-2()"99. I asked her ifshe knew w h o _ w a s . and
she said no, she did not even know who he was. Leigh Ann could not provide any further information about who may have
witnessed ~n the cafeteria shooting a firearm.

Narrative:
On 4-20-99 lnv Reker did respond to Columbine High School to assistin interviewing witnesses in
regards to the shooting at that location.
lnv. Reker and lnv. Art Peterson were advised to respond to the residence at tha comer of W. Polk
ave and S. Pierce st. to contact a person named as JohnSavage, as Savage had been in the Library dUring
the shootin. (Far further detailssee Inv Petersons report)
On 4-21-99,lnv. Rekerwas assigned to an evidence collection team whose task was to process the
S.w.parking lot for evidence items.
Additional members of this team were as follows:

4. Richard Putnam ATF
5. Timothy Steffes Lakewood Poilce
6. M.A. Greubel Arvada Police
This evidence team did collect49 pieces of evidence from the s, w. parking lot which were
subsequently logged into the JCSO evidence vault.
Items recovered were numerous shell casings of .223 caliber and .45 caliberand numerous
remenants of explosive devices.
The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms assisted in mapping the location of each avidence item
and a precise map of each item will be forwarded to the Jeffco Sheriffs Dept. in the immediate future.

On 5·7-991 spoke with Yatribi's uncle at the residence. He advised that on the day of the incident his nephews
(Mohamlld and Saad) had ditched school (Alameda High School) and were playing basketball all dayat Clement
Park, He further stated that they have not beenin this country long and when the shooting startedat Columbine H
S they ran and hid over night. They didn't know anyoneinvolved and had no further information,
0115-12-99 {responded toAlamedaHS and interviewed both Mohammad and Saadregardingtheincidents of4-20-
99. The told me that the story as relayed by their uncle (Mustapha Yatribi) was not accurate. What actually
happened was that they were in school on 4-20-99 but ditched the last hour, caught a bus and rode to downtown
Denver wherethey met an unknown individual who agreed to buy them 2 cases of beer. They drank the beer,got
drunk, passed OUI and sleptin a streetsomewhere until thenext morningwhen theycaught anotherbus home. Both
boysdenied beingaround ColumbineHS and deniedknowing anythingof the incidents on 4-20-99exceptof what
theyhad seen on TV.
I then checked the school records and confirmed that both boys had been in their classes until last hour which
showed "excused" absences.
No further information.

On 04·20·99 at/about 1130 hours, Criminalist 1. Jennings and I were requested by Lt. 1. Kiekbusch to respond to
Columbine High School. We arrived at/about 1300 hours and.after being briefed by Sgt. R. West, I photographed
the area, including people, inside and outside the crime scene at Clements Park. Sgt. West advised that the cars in
the parking lot located on the north/east corner of Clements Park needed to be photographed, and I requested
Detective CJ. Kloberdance, Golden PO, to do the photography. During the time the children were being brought out
of Columbine HS, I did GSR kits on the following:

to the Lab.

On 04-21·99, Evidence Recovery andReconstruction Teams were assigned tothevarious areas inand around Columbine High
School, Investigator Simmons and I maintained theEvidence Submission area located in the front lobby of Columbine High
School. After setting up a secured area to collect,document and store the evidence being located, I usedthe metal detector
at/about 1630hours on the front lawn areato right ofentry, andat 1945 hours I photographed two (2) slipon shoesand a bullet
thai were recovered on the front sidewalk area. Investigator 1. Healy triangulated the items. and Investigator D. Moore
documented and sketched the items.

INVESTlGATION;
On 05-04-99, weapons which had been seizedby the critical incident team from officerswho fired their weapons at Columbme
HighSchool, weretaken to CB.I. for analysis. In conjunction withthis analysis, I obtained copiesof the Critical Incident Team
reports and reviewed these reports for the purposes of assuring that all officerammunition had been accounted for. During the
course of this review, I determined that DenverPoliceDepartment OfficerGreg Romero's ammunition had not been accounted
for duringhis initial interview. I also determined that DenverPolice Department OfficerMarkDrajem's ammunition also had
not been accounted for in his initial interview and I determined that Lt.TerryManwaring's ammunition had not beenaccounted
for during his initial interview.
In response to my findings, I attempted to contactthe investigators who had conducted those initial interviews. I was successful
'n contacting Investigator Pat Vondenkemp, of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. I explained the situation to
.nvestigator Vondenkemp and he indicated that he would conduct a follow up interview withDenver PoliceDepartment Officer
MarkDrajem. I wasunableto make contactwithDetective SteveHolmes of the Golden PoliceDepartment whohad interviewed
DenverPolice Department GregRomero and Lr. TerryManwaring from JCSO, Dueto the fact thatI was unable to makecontact
with DetectiveHolmes, I conductedfollow up interviews with Lt. Terry Manwaring and Officer Greg Romero.
On 05-05-99, at approximately 1356 hours, I met with Lt. Manwaring. 1 explained to Lt. Manwaring that I wished to conduct
a follow up interviewwith him regardingthe ammunition that he had on him prior to the shooting. Lt. Manwaring indicated
that he believes that he took two 20 round magazines and three or possibly four 30 round magazines with him when he
approached the Columbine High School building, Lt. Manwaring indicated that he placed one 3()-round magazine into his
weapon and the other magazines he placed into his pockets.
Lt. Manwaring indicated that he is not certainof the exactnumberof roundsof ammunition he had in these magazines, due to
the factthathe never loadsthe magazines to full capacity because he is concerned thathe may injure the springs in the magazines.

duties of rescuing students, he handed his Colt AR 15 rifle to Lt. Dave Walcher of 1C50, who cleared the weapon for him. He
indicated that Lt. Walcher handed the round which had been in the chamber of the rifle to him, along with the rifle itself and the
magazine. He said he believes he placed the round back into the magazine and then placed the magazine into one of the pockets
ofhis soil gun case. Lt. Manwaring said that he believes he only had 29 rounds in that magazine prior to firing the two rounds
and he bases this belief on the fact that he again is positive he only fired two rounds and there were 27 rounds remaining in the
magazine which had been taken by Detective Steve Holmes during his initial interview with Lt. Manwaring.
I then contacted Lt. Dave Walcher and discussed with him his handlingofLt. Manwaring's rifle. Lt. Walcher indicatedthat Lt.
Manwaring did hand his rifle to him and that he in fact did clear the weapon of any rounds and then handed everything
immediately back to Lt. Manwaring.
0n 05-06-99, at 1020 hours, J contacted Denver Police Department Officer Greg Romero by telephone. [explained to Officer
,{omero that I wished to ask him some additional questions regarding the weapon that he fired on D4-20-99 and the ammunition
as well.
Officer Romero told me that he had one 20-round magazine in his Colt AR 15 rifle which had 18 rounds in the magazine He
said that it is Denver Police Department's policy to have 18 rounds in the magazine. He said he also had two 20 rounds
magazines on a drop bell which he strapped to his leg, which also had held 18 rounds each. Officer Romero indicated that he
did not remove either of the two magazines from his leg belt during this incident and is positive he only fired four rounds from
the magazine which he had in his rifle. Officer Romero indicated that rounds that he fired were department issued, lead nosed,
fully jacketed hollow points, which are designed to fragment at impact
Officer Romero said that after he had returned from the school to his departmentvehicle, he removed the chambered round from
the rifle and placed it back in the magazine. He said he did not do anything further I'Ioith the magazine until several days later
when he counted the rounds left in the magazine. He indicated that there were fourteen rounds left in the magazine.
Officer Romero indicated that when he fired his weapon he was on the west side of the building, north of the cafeteria.

INVESTIGATION:
On 05·06·99. 1 contacted the Emergency Department of Lutheran Hospital and spoke 10 Sharon Baldwin, After identifying
myself to Sharon Baldwin, 1 indicated 10her that I was attempting to ascertain whether either one of the victims transported to
Lutheran Hospital had any projectiles removedfrom their bodies, Sharon Baldwin told me there were two victims transported
10 Lutheran Hospital and without knowingexactly what it was that she could release to me, she did not provide names of those
individuals, She did say however, that the individual that she workedon did not have any projectiles removed from his body
and in fact did not go into surgery. She said that there were projectiles accordingto the victim that had been stuck in his shirt,
however,his shirt had been takenoffat the sceneand the projectiles apparently had remained at that location. She indicated the
other victim, did go into surgery and was operated on by Dr, Baer.

At approximately 1133 hours, J spoke to Dr, Bryan Baer by telephone, After Dr, Baer had my identity verified throughJCSO
Dispatch, he returned my telephone call and I spoketo him briefly about his surgery on the other victim, He indicated that he
had operated on Nicole Nowien and that she had a total of 13 gunshot woundsto her body. He indicated that nine of these were
-ntrance woundsand four were exit wounds, He saidthat she stillhas five projectiles still in the abdominal wall ofher body and

INVESTIGATION,
On 5-6-99, at approximately 1300 hours, I spoke by telephone to Jane Cole of the emergency department and inquired as to
projectiles which mayhave beenremoved from1I1e bodiesof victims inthis case. She indicated the onlypersonshe could speak
'or was victim Michael Johnson, whomshe treated, and she indicated thathis wounds werethrough and through and sheknows
there were no projectiles recovered from his body.
Jane Cole told me that as far as the other victims that weretransported to St. Anthony's CentralHospital go that she would be
unable to answerany questions aboutthem,and referred me toTraumaServices Specialist Pamela Borg. I attempted to contact
Pamela Borgby telephone, however, reacheda voicemail. I left a message for her, requesting her to contactme in regards to
the additional victims.
