Nina TJ Burgonio, Philip C. Tubeza at Michelle V. Remo

Under the Constitution, there is need for my concurrence on this matter and I have not given the concurrence, sinabi ni G. Aquino.

Will there be time to ask for exemptions? How can we distinguish from those who intend to resort to vote-buying and legitimate businessmen as well as ordinary citizens? ani De Lima.

exposes banks to civil and criminal liabilities under election laws. Ani Lorenzo V . Tan, pangulo ng BAP at ng Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., na naglagay ng undue burden on banks, which now are given discretion to apply the money ban based on regular and nonregular clients ang na-amyendahang kautusan. Sinabi ni Tan sa isang pahayag na banks have a legal and contractual obligation to release deposits to all withdrawing clients. I asked him what? and he replied secret, and just told me he has a job, ani Romeo, na naisip na ang tinutukoy ni Berin ay ang pagiging tour guide ng anak. Thats how he is, always joking, tanda ni Romeo tungkol sa ikaapat sa lima niyang anak. Hindi yon ang unang pagkakataon na n a i s t o r b o a n g p a gbabakasyon ni Marshal. We were lucky, aniya. I just feel sorry for the people that werent. Two to three hours later, we would have been in the same situation. Joanna Los Baos

They will review a copy of (the source code)... the advantage of having the review now is that Dominion and SLI (Global representatives) are here. So, if they have questions, they can ask these guys, ani Brillantes sa isang panayam. This is important to show that the elections are credible even to contending political parties and interested groups who have asked and applied to review the source code, dinagdag niya. PCT, CVE

Philpop hopes to discover global Pinoy songwriters

Luna awards favor studio films

By Bayani San Diego Jr.
UNLIKE the nominations in the critics Urian Awards, which was dominated by independent productions, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP)the main industry award-giving bodycited mostly mainstream movies. The FAPs Luna Awards, now on its 31st year, unveiled its honor roll on its website on Monday. Olivia M. Lamasans The Mistress, produced by Star Cinema, led the citations in 11 out of 12 categoriesproduction design was the only category it was left out of. The Mistress got nods for best picture, director, actor (John Lloyd Cruz), actress (Bea Alonzo), supporting actor (Ronaldo Valdez) and supporting actress (Hilda Koronel), among others. In second place are two studio films: Another Star Cinema melodrama, Ruel S. Bayanis One More Try , and the Viva/ Scenema Concepts-produced historical epic Mark Meilys El Presidente, with seven nods. Tying for third place are two Cinemalaya movies, Jun Robles

nods. Apart from Bwakaw and Sta. Nia, the only other indie that got in the Luna awards is Brillante Ma. Mendozas Thy Womb, which got four nods. Also earning four nods each are two studio releases: Star Cinemas horror flick, Chito S. Roos The Healing, and the Viva adult drama, Nuel C. Navals A Secret Affair. Other mainstream films competing for Luna trophies are John D. Lazatins A Mothers Story and Joyce Bernals Of All the Things , with three nods; Erik M a t t i s Ti k t i k : T h e A s w a n g Chronicles and Jerome Pobocans Born to Love You, two; and Cathy Garcia-Molinas Unofficially Yours and Mae Czarina Cruzs Every Breath U Take, one. Veterans and newcomers share the spotlight in the acting derbies. FAP has been screening the nominated films for voters since May 7. On May 16, the last day of screenings, members will cast their votes. Date of the awards rites has not been set. We want to put the spotlight on Philippine music, and hopefully, spark a new movement that will be recognized worldwide, Cayabyab, Philpop Music Fest Foundation executive director, told the INQUIRER in a recent interview. How does one embark on such an ambitious and daunting task? Cayabyab believes that among the first steps is discovering new blood, a breed of songwriters in tune with the ever-changing music scene. So, while this years 12 finalists include stalwarts like Joey Ayala and veteran mainstream composers such as Jungee Marcelo, Cayabyab was very pleased that less experienced twentysomethings Myrus Apacible, Lara Maigue, Raffy Calicdan and the tandem of Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana made it to the lineup, which he described as musically diverse. These kids experiences are fresh and unique. Theyre into new music trends that older composers like us cant easily get or keep up with, he said.

would have been one of the 12, but backed out due to personal reasons. Cayabyab explained: We opened the contest to everyone because we wanted to have a collection that encompassed different genres. As long as the songs arent published, performed before a live audience or uploaded on the Internet, they were good to join. Asked if the younger finalists were at a disadvantage against seasoned counterparts, Cayabyab said: There are lots of big names who didnt make the cut. Thats a testament to the skills of our younger finalists. He added: Its all about the songs. I hope other young, aspiring songwriters get encouraged to join after seeing that they can go toe-to-toe with the masters if their works are really good.

3,383 entries
Cayabyab reported that the contest received 3,383 entries from all over the Philippines and other countries including Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany, Norway, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

PHILPOP finalists Around 140 adjudicators composed of record label executives, singers, musicians, artists and other industry professionals narrowed down the number to the final 12. Unlike previous years, Cayabyab scrapped all the ambiguous criteria in judging the entries, such as determining which song would be a potential hit. Ive realized that it was unnecessary because none of us really knows what song will become a hit since there are lots of factors involved in that. We never know what the people want at any given time, Cayabyab explained, adding that he simply asked the adjudicators this time around to choose songs that communicate and affect them. Discovering new songs is just half the battle won, Cayabyab insisted. The tough part is making the songs heard by the public. We rely on the machinery and connections of our sponsors, TV5 and Universal Records, who will produce the compilation album, he said. Philpop Music Fests grand winner will receive P1 million in cash on finals night, July 6.

LARO NGAYON (Smart Araneta Coliseum) 6:45 p.m. Barangay Ginebra vs Talk N Text

Tony Mitchell reminds me a lot of

Tony Harris, wika ni Talk N Text coach Norman Black matapos bugbugin ng Texters ang Kings, 98-80 sa Game Three. Im sure hell get better as the series goes on, wika ni Black kay Mitchell na pinalitan si sevenfooter Jerome Jordan.

The team continued to battle, continued to fight and continued to believe they can win, ani Black.

Hats off to my local players.

AFTER a credit-rating agency hailed the Philippines as a rising star in the global economic spectrum, Bangon Pilipinas senatorial candidate Bro. Eddie Villanueva said the ocuntry can rise higher and faster if the government were to make inclusive growth from the margins a priority. The country can grow so much faster and higher if the economy grows not just at the top, but from and within the bottom and the margins. Equitable growth will result in a more productive citizenry and a strong and resilient economy. This is the commitment of our platform and this will be our legislative agenda in the Senate, Villanueva, an economist,

told reporters in a round-table discussion held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel last week. He also noted that domestic consumption and remittances frm overseas contract workers can only go so far in propping upthe economy. The thinking should be long-term. We need industrial development and create an industrial backbone based on agriculture and manufacturing. We need to translate economic growth to genuine human development, said Villanueva. The Bangon Pilipinas candidate, who is presenting himself as an alternative candidate to political dynasties, said his legislative agenda

will also include protection of overseas Filipino workers from exploitation; an education system that not only produces skilled laborers and technicians but engineers, scientists and knowledge workers who will help in the countrys industrial development; and to the poor and marginalized to bank loans for entrepreneurship. In a recent report, Moodys Analytics said the country can grow between 6.5 to 7 percent in the next two years and 8 percent by 2016, outperforming advanced aconomies ravaged by the current global economic slump and growing emerging markets.

each other in the eye and say listen, what reason are we here for?. I think this was our first real adversity of the season, losing Game One at home was tough, wika ni Dwyane Wade. We had to go back and look at ourselves in the mirror, look at prankisa. People think he should dominate and score 40 every night, wika ni Spoelstra.

If he (Pacquaio) loses I will tell him to retire, sabi ni Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach sa ESPN.com. If you lose three in a row its your time. Hes up there in age (34). Ive got to keep a close eye on him. Its part of my job to protect him. I will do the right thing, I dont want him to be a stepping stone (for other fighters). Would I step down if he becomes a stepping stone? Id have to, yes. I will never go into a fight I dont think we win, sabi ni Roach.
