AbstractThe paper provides an insight to a technique and its implementation which can be aptly used for depiction of the presence of any person(higher ofcials) in their respective rooms. A PIR (passive infra- red) sensor is used for detection of the presence of the human body and the results are nally displayed on a screen connected to the main server which is updated timely. The technique mentioned has a wide range of application and potential changes can be brought with the mentioned technique. Index TermsPIR (passive infra-red), main server, lcd screen.

I. INTRODUCTION

Any a times we visit an higher ofcials ofce or a person with important stature like a CEO of an corporate world only to discover that the person is out for work.Such incidences keep occuring when students of institues like the IITs and NITS desire to meet the faculties and the faculty is not present in the room as he/she is busy taking a class .This leads to consumption of ample of time of the person who wants to meet the imminent personas.Hence a technique which can give a person information about the presence of the required personality can prove to be pragmatic . II. PROPOSED TECHNIQUE The block diagram below gives the brief overview of the proposed technique.

The setup for detection is deployed in the rooms and consists of components like the PIR sensor, micrcontroller. Upon detection of a person in the room the main server is automatically updated and is timely refreshed to detect any changes in the respective rooms . Assuming that all rooms have a PC(personal computer), the main server connnected to all these computers is updated by the computers themselves upon detection of a person in the room and the status of the presence of the personality is depicted on a LCD screen which is accessible to everybody or is displayed on the corresponding local server in case of an institute, like the INTRANET. The microcontroller setup used is coonected to the PCs and detection of any person on the room results in the transmission of the info from the microcontoller setup to the PCs which ultimately updates the main server .Hence ,anybody can access the local server and can know the status of the rooms ,the presence of the personality whom they want to meet. III. IMPLEMENTATIONS The setup which is deployed in rooms consist of the following componetsA. PIR (Passive Infra-red) sensor SB0081 SB0081 is a pyro electric sensor module which is developed for human body detection. A PIR detector combined with a Fresnel lens are mounted on a compact size PCB together with an analog IC, SB0081, and limited components to form the module. Supply current: DC5V-20V . Voltage Output: High/Low level signal 3.3V High level signal. The output of the PIR sensor is observed on a led inside the Fresnel lens which glows whenever there is a human body present in the specied range of the sensor.

B. ATMega8 It is a 8 bit AVR Microcontroller with 8k Bytes In-System Programmable Flash with advanced RISC architecture and Operating Voltage between 4.5 - 5.5V .

IV. SOFTWARES USED A. RS232 RS232 is an open source software which is being used to log onto a serial port and convert the serial data into a text le. B. PYTHON CODE Python is a general-purpose, high-level programming language whose design philosophy emphasizes code readability. It is a very robust and very frequently used. The main advantage of using the language is the wide range applications of the language and the easy adaptability, usage of the language. V. WORKING The output from the PIR sensor is provided to the microcontroller as an input. The microcontroller is programmed in such a way that it gives TTL high logic i.e. a 1 when the LED is glowing and a TTL low logic i.e a 0 when the LED is OFF as the presence of a person is directly linked to the glowing of the LED. The microcontroller output is then transferred to the PC with the help of an RS232 to USB converter as the computer can import an input through a USB port. The USB input is directly converted into a text le which has a string of numbers including 0 and 1 only using the open source software. This information is then used to depict the faculty status. The python code executed reads only the last input digit stored in the text le .The main server displays the faculty name ,faculty room number and also the faculty status either as PRESENT or NOT PRESENT . If the last digit received in the text le is 0 the output depicted is NOT PRESENT and if it is 1 then PRESENT The updating is done a regular time interval then. The PC which is directly connected to the main server then does the required updation on the main server. VI. ADVANTAGES A. Minimal cost The money to be put in the successful implementation of the described technique is minimal with the total cost including the cost of PIR sensor mostly.

B. Easy installation This whole setup is compact and can be placed below table present in the room which ones installed requires minimal maintenance. C. Minimal wiring constraints Many applications make use of a lot of complicated wiring structures, but the described technique use of minimal wires which makes the overall setup simple and elegant. D. Portability The components make the system compact and hence the whole system is easily portable and can be setup in almost all places . VII. F UTURE SCOPE The design mentioned can be implemented in rooms where the public has to visit the ofce or the building to check whether the desired person to be meet is present or not.Hence this can help to save a lot of time as in most of the magnicent institutes, for example, the hostels are at a considerable distance from the faculty ofces .
