Hinge Selection Criteria

Selection of appropriate hardware will ultimately rest on two primary considerations: Door/Frame Specifications including material, structure, size, thickness and weight. Functional Requirements including frequency of use, clearance, location, exposure, budget, special applications (e.g.: hospitals, security, schools), fire rating, aesthetic considerations.

Basic Hinge Configurations

Five-Knuckle Concealed Bearing Hinge highest resistance to wear and abuse, superior performance to standard ball bearing hinges, maintenance-free, lifetime warranty. Five-Knuckle Hinge dependable performance. Continuous Hinge architectural-grade, similar to a piano-type hinge, provides full-height support in high use and abuse applications.

Hinge Mounting Configurations

To accommodate the wide range of door/frame assemblies, hinges are available in four basic mounting configurations: Full Mortise the standard configuration with one hinge leaf mortised, or recessed, in the edge of the door, one in the frame. Half Mortise for jambs that do not allow mortising (e.g. channel iron frame) with one leaf mortised in the door, one applied to the surface of the frame. Heavy weight door

Stanley offers several types of hinges for special conditions: Swing Clear Hinge allows the door to swing completely clear of the opening, permitting barrierfree use of the entire door opening (available in all four mounting types). Pivot-Reinforced Hinge helps prevent damage to door and frame in highabuse conditions (full mortise only). Full Surface for door/frame assemblies that do not permit mortising the door edge or frame (e.g., hollow core door by channel iron frame) with both hinge leaves surface applied. Concealed Hinge allows clean appearance by making the hinge invisible when door is closed (full mortise only). Raised Barrel Hinge for deep inset doors. Wide Throw Hinge wide leaves permit a door to clear molding or other protrusions and swing open a full 180. Electric Hinge conducts power through hinge for switching and monitoring devices on the door, or for monitoring the door position.

Designed to withstand the most punishing use, the Stanley 600 Series Continuous Hinge provides full-height door support, distributing stress evenly along the length of the hinge, door and frame. New 600 series geared aluminum hinges available 1/2002.
SPECIAL APPLICATION HARDWARE

Ideal for use on high traffic doors or for rehabilitating badly worn doors and frames. 600-pound (272kg) capacity supports a wide assortment of interior and exterior doors. Door monitoring switch available.

Stanley offers a wide variety of hinges for special conditions and applications. 2060R Series Spring Hinge excellent for closing motel and apartment doors. Closing power is easily adjusted with an internal ratchet mechanism. Pivot Reinforced Hinge prevents damage to frames and doors subjected to high winds or impact. Excellent for

Stanley Heavy Duty Detention Hinges and Hardware maintain security and safety while carrying the load of heavy prison doors without a creak of complaint. Tamper-proof concealed wires transfer electrical power to locks, alarms and monitoring devices. Prison Hinges Available in heavy gauge steel, stainless steel or cast stainless steel, feature concealed bearing assemblies designed to support doors of up to 2,000 pounds (906kg).

Food Pass Hinges for use on small doors within the cell door, with stop that holds the door open at 90 to form a shelf. Also available without stop for access panels and special doors. Cast Door Pulls heavy duty cast manganese bronze pulls are applied with high security screws to prevent removal. Detention Stops maximize security. High impact Neoprene heavy duty stops with tamper resistant design.
