OPERATIONAL PHILOSOPHY:Ref: i) The overall single line diagram is as per Drg.no.A0-3612-400-011, Rev.01. The power plant will be connected to TNEB grid by 230kV DC line on DC tower from M/s Tannex to Cuddalore - Villupuram 230kV line thus making LILO at power plant end. The features of the LILO arrangement in TNEB switching station as follows, a). The existing double circuit 230 kV line will be terminated on a double bus bar system with various metering and protection in the TNEB switching station at power plant end (i.e., in the company premises by Tannex Power). The TNEB switching station will be fenced. The fenced area shall under lock and key of TNEB. b). The metering and protection equipment for the LILO arrangement will be housed in TNEB control room located in the TNEB switching station. This will be for operational convenience of the TNEB personal. c). The switching station circuit breakers namely 52-1, 52-2, 52-3, 52-4, and 52-15 will not receive any trip commands from the power plant switching station. d). For any faults on the downstream of the switching station (i.e., TG related faults), circuit breakers 52-11 and 52-12 will act and trip as line circuit breakers and there will be no effect on the circuit breakers in the TNEB switching station which will be under the control of TNEB. e). Installation of PLCC & SCADA technology provides a remote control & monitoring operation of the equipment from the TNEB Substation end. The switching station parameters viz metering and breaker status can be monitored/controlled from Cuddalore or Villupuram Substation. This will ensure all the related breakers can be remotely operated after ensuring the line healthiness. iii) The two feeders (52-11 and 52-12) from Unit 1 & Unit 2 which will be feeding to the 230kV double bus system will be monitored and controlled by Tannex Power in the name of power plant switching station. iv) The TNEB switching station and power plant switching station will be fenced separately with separate gates. 1.0 SYNCHRONISATION PROCEDURE The synchronizing scheme for 2 x 55 MW, 0.8 p.f, 11kV, 3 Ph, 50Hz TG Set is briefly described below:

1.1

The synchronizing of 11kV generators shall be possible in two ways: a). b). Auto synchronizing. Manual synchronization with check synchronizing relay in association with other auxiliary relays

2.0 2.1

SYNCHRONIZATION OF GENERATORS Auto Synchronization Auto synchronization module is for the generator is mounted in the Generator MCS (Metering Cum Synchronizing) Panel. The Auto-synchronizer sense phase voltage, frequency and phase sequence of both the incoming and running buses. The raise and lower frequency and Voltage are wired to the Governor and the AVR respectively. All the selector switches such as auto / manual, load rise / low, voltage rise / low, test / run, live/dead bus selection are made available at generator MCS panel. After matching all the above variables, the breaker closure command is given by auto synchronizer.

2.2

Manual Synchronization Manual synchronization shall be facilitated in the generator MCS panels. After matching all the variables Viz Frequency/ Voltage/ Phase angle the breaker closure command is given by Synchronization Relay. The panel will have dead bus / live bus selection with synchro-check relay etc.

2.3

Synchronization Sequence The Following Breakers can be synchronized either in Auto mode or in Manual mode, Unit-1 Generator breaker 52-11 Unit-1 auxiliary transformer breaker 52-13 Unit-2 Generator breaker 52-12 Unit-2 auxiliary transformer breaker 52-14

The basic assumption of Synchronization is the Line (LILO) will be charged and the grid will be made available till the Tannex substation. Initial Start Up:

a.

The Grid breaker 52-1 and 52-3 shall be closed in dead bus mode and Supply is made available at main bus-1 PT, Synchronizing signal (A) (i.e., LILO-1 arrangement is formed on 230 kV line feeder-1). Station Auxiliary transformer is charged by closing the breaker 52-5 and the Plant-1 Auxiliaries loads are started by closing downstream breakers viz 52-6, 52-7, 52-9. TG-1 is started and the Voltage is built up. The Generator Transformer Voltage taken as a reference from synchronizing signal (E) and the Main Bus-1 Voltage taken as a reference from synchronizing signal (A) is paralleled (by Checking Phase sequence, Voltage and frequency) by closing Generator Transformer Breaker 52-11. After synchronizing unit-1 with grid the unit loads shall be supplied through unit auxiliary transformer-1 (UAT-1) by synchronizing at 5213 breaker using the synchronizing signals (C) and (F) and isolating the 52-6 and 52-5 breaker. The above procedure is the normal operation of the plant. Similar procedure synchronization. shall be followed for unit-2 start and

Fault Condition: TG Fault: a. For any TG related faults the related generator transformer breaker viz 52-11 or 52-12 shall be tripped thereby isolating from the grid. Line Fault: b. For any line (grid) fault, the associated breakers in the line shall be tripped and intervention of TNEB personal the necessary changeover shall be made.
