Well Test Analysis

This 5 day course provides a practical introduction to the design and analysis of pressure transient well tests. Students will be introduced to the basic mathematics and theory of well testing, however emphasis is on the practical interpretation and design of well tests for both oil and gas wells and injection wells. Following the course, students should be able to 1) design well tests and specify equipment requirements and procedures, 2) check the quality of well test data and correct or discard "bad" data, 3) analyze well tests for production and injection wells using classical and computer aided methods, 4) identify wellbore and reservoir effects and choose the correct model for evaluation and design, 5) understand the terminology and basic theory of well testing to keep abreast of future developments in well testing. An understanding of basic engineering mathematics and fundamental concepts of reservoir or production engineering are prerequisites for the course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND Reservoir and production engineers, geoscientists and managers involved in well testing for formation evaluation and production optimization.

OUTLINE The agenda that follows shows the tentative schedule for a five day course on well test design and analysis. The course is designed to introduce students to the theory and practice of well testing and present a systematic approach to well test design and evaluation. Each day is made up of four sessions of about 2 hours each, with alternating lectures and class exercises. Students will be provided with a copy of the PT software for pressure transient analysis and will perform actual interpretations.
