01 April 2013 SR. EMILY CORAZON H. BACANI, CM Directress Mater Carmelli School Novaliches Madam: Christian greetings!

! My son, (complete name ni Gab), is an enrolled student of your school who is now in Grade 7. After the school year, I was informed that he had failed I two subjects, English and Health in particular. I would openly acknowledge the fact that he did fail if only I was given an acceptable explanation as to the matter. To have a better understanding, the ensuing antecedent facts may be considered: a. Immediately after the first grading period and upon receipt of my sons report card, I already noticed a discrepancy in the noted number of absences where it was reflected that he had incurred four (4) absences while in fact he never missed a class on said covered period. The matter was referred and made known to his adviser, (name of teacher), but to no avail. This is in consideration of the very strict policy of the school where it is required of students to present a medical certificate to justify absence which we diligently complied with if ever my son got sick that we even have to expend money just to have him checked by doctor/s in order to get a medical certificate, so you can just imagine what a discrepancy in the report card would mean to us; b. Upon knowing that my son failed in his English subject I was a bit shocked because if there was a subject he really excelled in, it is English. This fact can be proven or corroborated by his previous records. Meanwhile, I also learned that a classmate of his got a higher grade than him considering that said classmate has incurred more than a month of absences. The name of said classmate will be disclosed on consultation. In fact, the mother of said classmate was even calling my son asking if he could come over and convince her son to go to school again. If ever my son is really a slow learner or have caused any problem in class, the teacher or adviser concern should have at least called my attention or required me to come over and inform me about this which is the role of teachers, to motivate our children to do better. It is now my presumption that my son was never given any consideration; c. In like manner, it is also vague to me the possibility of Gab failing health, if it is just a component of the subject MAPEH. Furthermore, they never even used their MAPEH book for the whole school year, only proved that we are spending for nothing and such a waste; d. As per DepEd Guidelines in offering summer classes, a student must have failed in two major areas to be required in order to proceed with his/her regular schooling. In view on the aforementioned, may I then request your good office to:

1. Let (name of adviser) rectify and correct the entry on the report card of my son pertaining to his incurred absences and the proper information or data be entered therein; 2. Let (name of English teacher) explain how she came up with the computation of grades in her subject with all the necessary records to support the same; 3. Clarify or enlighten the undersigned as to how my son could have only failed in Health as a mere component of MAPEH; It should also come to you attention that even if my son will be required to take summer classes, I am no longer confident that he will be treated fairly because in one of my conversations with his adviser, the former told me that most of his teachers are angry at him. If ever it were true, is it appropriate for the teacher to utter those words. I was really expecting that the school would be more compassionate considering that it is a Catholic school. Given said statement and conclusion, it is apparent that some of his teachers if not all are partial and inconsiderate. Thank you in anticipation of your favorable action on the matter and God bless!

Respectfully, Mai Victroria Pedrosa
