Mission Statement
To develop treatments and effective cures for human ailments by studying the relationship between genes and diseases.

History
GenEcon Incorporated (GEI) is a startup company founded on November 1, 2011. Omega Venture Capital of Chicago initially invested $10 million to start GEI, and they have been a continuous support since. The original premise was to have an organization that would conduct research on the molecular structure of plants, domestic animal and humans. Flexibility is key here at GEI. As our scientists see a need, they will focus their efforts on that, meaning they have diverse backgrounds and are able to apply themselves to multiple fields. We settled in Serene, USA because of State University (SU) and the number of molecular biologists and cytogenetists in the area. SU agreed to cooperate with GEI as we have an agreement to use the Cray Super computer and our researchers are available for cooperative research with faculty and students.

Executive Positions
Glen E.E. Kowan, BS, MS, PhD. Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board Lowell U. Garrett, BS, MS, PhD. Executive Vice President Amanda Etherly, BBA, MBA. Vice President for Finance and Administration Evelyn Drewhurst, BA, MA. Vice President for Corporate Communication

DNA background
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, in 1909, a Danish botanist, Wilhelm Johanssen named the genetic unit on a chromosome a gene. It wasnt until 1953, that Francis H. Crick and James Watson discovered the structure of DNA, changing biology forever. DNA is the genetic code of our lives. It determines everything from height and eye color to the ability to roll your tongue. Deoxyribonucleic Acid is made of nucleotides in the form of a double helix. These nucleotide building blocks grouped in sets of three form amino acids. Each group is decoded by a protein and that is how the genetic information is conveyed (National Center for Biotechnology Information). In 1995, the Institute for Genomic Research (IGR) mapped the first genome, the entire genetic code of an organism.

Why the research?

GEI is working hard to complete research on the relationship between genes and diseases because it is the key to developing treatments and cures. Diseases are caused by mutations, or permanent changes, in the sequence of DNA (Genetic Science Learning Center, 2012). Mutations are either hereditary or environmental and there are seven different types that can occur (Genetics Home Reference, 2013). Scientists know what cause diseases and the types of mutations, but they do not know the effects of every variant of altered codons.

Legalities
GEI has done research and dabbled with the cloning process. We feel that in order to further our research with gene/disease relationships, we must first know how the body works through experiments and reproducing a new being. According to the International Journal of Pharma

and Bio Sciences, there are two types of cloning currently being practiced: reproductive and therapeutic. Reproductive cloning is generally for couples who are infertile. It is essentially the process of in-vitro fertilization. The egg and sperm come together outside the body and are then placed into a surrogate. The initial processes to therapeutic cloning are similar, but when the egg is fertilized, scientists harvest the embryo and study the stem cells. This is where it becomes very controversial with the public. Depending on your religion, background, culture and ethics, one can either see this as abortion, or as monumental research to further extend the human life (Yadav, S., & Sharma, V., 2011).

Investor Relations
Miscommunication between an investor from Alpha Alliance and the goals of GEI research led to the withdrawal of his $2 million investment because he was under the impression that GEI was developing an H1N1 vaccine. GEI is aware and collaborating with work done in the UK with the hopes of developing a treatment, but they are not actually directly involved with the development. We are involved with transferring information between organizations around the world, working to improve health by developing pandemics and preventative vaccinations. Alpha Alliance issued a statement saying, Were simply providing operating capital to an exceptional group of scientists whose work will contribute significantly to new knowledge and perhaps may result in improving the standard of living and health for all of humankind. We think that it is a worthwhile goal, and we invite all interested parties to participate in that grand research.

State University to Help with Research

State University has agreed to support and collaborate on some very exciting research opportunities coming up. They have provided a grant and offered their labs as a research facility to us. We have had a breakthrough with cloning primates and understanding how a virus is transmitted through the species. With this funding, we will be able to further our research and work to exterminate this deadly disease known as H1N1.

We are Here for You

GenEcon Inc. is working to improve the quality of life. Through our research in genetics, cloning and vaccinations, we strive to improve the quality of life in Serene, USA and the world.
