QIN DYNASTY

JACKSON BARRY
Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China was built about 2000 years ago by many different Chinese emperors to protect China from invaders. The Wall started construction under Qin Shi huangdi in 220 BC. The Wall is known as one of the seven wonders with its beauty and unique features. It snakes through the mountains of China for about 4,500 miles (but no one knows how long it really is). It is 25 feet tall and 15-30 feet wide where it is nice, but in some places, all the wall is rammed earth or just a pile of bricks. Does this count as part of the Great Wall or not? It could be or it might not be. This is why no one knows exactly how long it is. In China, the wall is called Wann Li Channg-Chng. That means Long Wall of 10,000 Li. A li equals three tenths of a mile. The Great Wall is very widely visited and if you go to China and dont see the Great Wall, you havent really been to China.

Brilliant Leader

Qin Shi huangdi was both a great ruler, and a harsh tyrant. His great accomplishments were amazing, but cost many lives.

He conquered all of the warring states creating the worlds rst emperor. He also standardized many things including weights, coins, wheels, measurements, and so on. This made it easier to trade and create a more stable society. He made it easy to travel by making canals. He then moved all the nobles with enough power to become a threat to the capital, where they could be spied on, and kept out of trouble. He made peasants pay taxes, but gave them land which belonged to the Nobles and took it away from the Nobles. Most peasants were glad to be able to own land, and agreed. Finally, he started construction of the Great Wall, which was added onto by later emperors. The construction of the wall kept out the Mongol horse men, and kept them from burning down villages.

Brutal Tyrant even family members would spy on each other. Punishments were very harsh if you were caught doing something wrong. The punishments would either be paying in gold, forced labor, or physical punishments like beatings and even death. Qin Shi huangdi was a very successful ruler, but he also did many bad things.

Terra-Cotta Warriors
It is thought that construction began 259 BC 210 BC for Qin Shi huangdi, who was the first emperor of China. The terra cotta warriors formed the first ever assembly line. All of the faces of the warriors are different. None of them are alike! There are also chariots and horse statues. Lastly, they are ranked based on there clothing. Go look at the 7,000 terra cotta warriors!

He is a great ruler but he had a dark side. It was said that he killed about 1,000,000 people with his harsh punishments, war, and forced labor.
One of his most famous accomplishments was the Great Wall which came with huge human sacrice. During the building of the Great Wall, men were forced into labor without a lot of food and no shelter. This killed many people.
Qin Shi huangdi believed everybody was born bad. This had no one trusting each other and a bad society. Neighbors would spy on neighbors, friends would spy on friends, and
