Turning the Tide

While Janet and I are away on a very special Holy Land trip with Southwestern Seminary, I am grateful for our outstanding guest speakers. We welcome Dr. Paul Dixon to the pulpit this weekend, my friend and active member of our church. Currently Chancellor of Cedarville University, Paul served as President for 25 years and impacted thousands of students. He built one of the great Christian universities in the world and is widely recognized not only as a premier president, but also as an outstanding communicator and evangelist. Those who are blessed by his weekly Bible studies at various golf clubs Dr. Hayes Wicker will attest to his warmth and love for the Lord. I look forward to Senior Pastor preaching next weekend. Kingdom education at all levels is so important, not only in college, but also with the youngest of children. Though the word education is not found in the Bible, we certainly are involved in teaching and discipling. Passages like Psalm 78:6, 7 remind us that we must pass the baton from generation to generation. As Chuck Colson used to say, We are only one generation away from barbarism. God blesses the 3-legged stool of training through the home, the church, and the school. They all must work in synergy and scriptural truth for a strong foundation. In the Jewish community, for centuries the goal was to instill the Jewish faith and love for Jehovah in each child. This was done in the home, the synagogue, and in the school. They memorized scripture and biblical principles. In the Talmud, a young man was warned by his uncle who was a Rabbi not to have anything to do with Greek wisdom and to follow Joshua 1:8 by Meditating on Gods Word day and night. The wise Rabbi said, Find a time that is neither day nor night and learn Greek wisdom! In other words, never. Our First Baptist Academy, as well as great Christian schools like Cedarville, teach all kinds of knowledge, but point to Christ-centeredness. We have a great need for people to give gifts of all kinds to our scholarship fund to enable students to attend. We must develop Christian warriors with the right worldview who will someday lead our nation in business, government, and ministry. Many families cannot afford a private Christian school for various reasons. FBAs operating budget is tuition-driven. Please contact the school to see how you can be of assistance. We need $400,000 in annual aid, $100,000 of which is needed for new students and the remainder for existing students. The Financial Aid Committee administrates the funds, only one half of the students tuition is being funded personally. So, be a Friend of the Lion.
