ATENEO DE DAVAO UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND GOVERNANCE MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT IT 3 / ISM 424 PRELIM CASE ANALYSIS

S Guidelines and Instructions:

1. The Case Analysis for the Prelim Term will be done in groups. 2. There will only be three groups for each class. Composition of which will be determined via counting off during
the next possible class session after this document is posted on Daigler.

3. Each group will be asked to answer the questions under each respective case. For the Prelim, there will be 3
cases 2 will be included in this document, 1 is found on page 139 of James Halls Information Technology: Auditing and Assurance book (Internal Control and Fraud Cleaver Manufacturing Company).

4. The output that will be submitted will have both the questions provided and the answers of the group. 5. In submitting, please do not forget to include a cover page which identifies what the document is, which subject
the document is for, to whom you are submitting it to, who are your members, which course, year and section do you come from and the when the submission has been made.

6. Students, whose names are never to be found in any of the cover sheets submitted, are deemed to have not
participated in the case analysis. For this, they will earn a grade of 60 for the case analysis. Group leads should be able to list all of their members so as to avoid any complications on this matter. Lists in ALPHABETICAL ORDER (based on Last Name) are HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

7. The document should be in MS Word 1997-2003 Format (.doc). Any submission which deviates from this format
will not be accommodated. File name should be CourseYearSection_Prelim_Case_Analysis (ex. ACC4Z_Prelim_Case_Analysis.doc ; AM4Y_Prelim_Case_Analysis.doc). Font style should be Arial, size 12, with 1.5 spacing and with 1 margins on all sides.

8. In submitting the finished soft copy, it should bear the subject FOR CHECKING PLEASE PRELIM CASE ANALYSIS:
ACC/AM4X LastName1, LastName2, LastName3, LastName4. LastNameX. It should be sent to my email at jksdalangin@addu.edu.ph.

9. Deadline of submission is on 11:59 PM of 27 December 2012. Any submission which comes in beyond the time
and date set is considered late and will only have the highest possible grade of 80.

10. Questions regarding the instructions of the case analysis maybe sent via Twitter (@bleuheat); Email
(jksdalangin@addu.edu.ph), or via Messaging on the Daigler Virtual Learning Facility. Questions beyond 9:30 PM on 27 December 2012 may not be accommodated anymore.

11. Students are hereby cautioned, in the strongest possible terms, against PLAGIARISM. As agreed on the first

Questions: 1. What is the main problem in the above scenario? Why is it the main problem? 2. Given the case, what would be of greatest concern from a segregation of duties perspective? a. Why is it the greatest concern? (Or, what makes it a concern?) b. How will you address the said concern? 3. How would you best address data integrity from a mitigating control standpoint? Kindly give specifics on how the scenario will be addressed? Case Study B Scenario (taken from page 356 of CISA Reviewer Manual 2009)

Questions: 1. In reviewing the information for this project, what would be the most important concern regarding the use of microwave radio systems based on the above scenario? Why this is so? 2. Related to question 1, how will you address the said concern? Kindly provide specifics of your proposal. 3. In your opinion backed by what you have learned in IT 3 / ISM 424 so far, what would best reduce the likelihood of business systems being attacked through the wireless network? How will you specifically adress the issue? Why do you think that it will be addressed through your proposal? Case Study C Scenario and Questions Please refer to the problem on Cleaver Manufacturing Company (seen on #4, p.139 on James Halls Information Technology: Auditing and Assurance).
