TAMIL NADU NEWSPRINT AND PAPERS LIMITED

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) was established by the Government of Tami Nadu during early eighties to produce Newsprint and Printing & Writing Paper using bagasse, a sugarcane residue, as primary raw material. The Company commenced production in the year 1984 with a initial capacity of 90,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). Over the years, the production capacity has been increased to 2,45,000 tpa and the Company has emerged as the largest bagasse based Paper Mill in the world consuming about one million tonnes of bagasse every year. The Company completed a Mill Expansion Plan during December 2010 to increase the mill capacity to 4,00,000 tpa.. TNPLs contemporary cutting edge technology processes and equipments along with a team of dedicated trained professionals ensure that customers always get consistent quality products. State of the art Online Process Control Systems installed at various stages of manufacturing processes continuously measure and control critical parameters. R&D and QC activities are aimed towards achieving companys corporate goals.

Sustained R&D efforts to support process for improvements in quality and trouble shooting. Customized support to customers and provide workable solutions for specific problems. Right quality and quantity of raw materials usage ensured through structured sampling and testing. Effective pollution abatement measures to meet all statutory and mandatory norms which also fetch Carbon Credit benefits. Set product norms/specifications to meet customer requirements based on national/ international standards applicable. Appraise conformance by inspection and testing of periodic samples in one of the best equipped laboratories in the country. Take corrective action, if necessary and sustain the standards achieved. R&D and QC department plays a pro active roll in meeting the companys environmental and quality policy.

LEADERSHIP
Objectives:
To attain leadership in paper technology.

Decision:
TNPL has increased its capacity from 230000 tpa to 400000 tpa.

PRODUCTION CAPACITY
Objectives:
To increase the production capacity.

Decision:
TNPL uses bagasse as its raw material, has also put in a new bagasse fibre line, having the capacity for producing 500 tonnes of bagasse pulp per day.

Constraints:
Availability of bagasse.

Alternatives:
TNPL supplies seedlings to farmers to meet their need. The company inks an agreement to buy farmers product at a guaranteed rate,whichever is need.

ECO- FRIENDLY
Objective:
Increase in the usage of bagasse in the manufacture of Newsprint and Printing & Writing Paper will help in proper waste management.

Decision:
TNPL currently have 66,599 acres of plantation,adding 15000 acres every year.

Constarints:
If we are using wood pulp that may cause deforestation.

PROFIT
Objective:
To increase the profit.

Decision:
An additional machine is implemented under a Mill Expansion Plan(MEP).This MEP after implementation shall place TNPL as the only mill in INDIA with 1000 tpd at single location that causes tremendous increase in the production and that will leads to increase the profit.

Constraints:
Additional machinery needs lot of power.

POWER MANAGEMENT
Objectives:
To become totally self-sufficient in power thereby increasing annual savings.

Decision:
To place a wind-farm of 35.5MW and also completed in second bio-methenation plant. Revamping of steam system project are expected to be commissioned by April ,2012.

COMPANY EXPANSION Objective:


To increase production,profit,revenue of the company.

Decision:
Companys ongoing project to setup a cement plants expected to be commissioned by FY12. A new 300 tpd de-inking project is also nearing completion.

Constraints:
All on going projects are structured to be completed in the year of 2012.

FINAL DECISIONS
Community impact will be beneficial as the project will generate economic benefit for the locality. Continued improvement in waste water treatment facilities coupled with high efficiency electostatic precipitator results in minimizing the impacts on enviornment. Self sufficient in power. Increasing job opportunities.
