Presidents Message
At Tuesdays Boosters meeting (Tuesday the 25, 7-9 pm at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, 953 DeHaro at Southern Heights), well try to get a handle on the coming Muni service changes on the Hill. Yes, service is being reduced, even to this transit-poor neighborhood where buses sleep at night in multiple Muni yards, but dont run during the day. But in one odd and pleasant surprise, we are actually getting more runs of the 19 line with this service cut, since more buses overall are going the the full route of the 19 instead of stopping at 8th and Bryant. Still, many Hill residents are concerned about the loss of the 53 and the redirection of the 48 around the Hill, leaving us with fewer bus trips that actually climb the Hill (and the probable impacts that will have on families and seniors). So, lets hear from SFMTA staff what cuts were approved at their commission, and how we can handle or respond to them.

Well also get an update on the current feasibility study for the rehabilitation and re-use of the Bluepeter Building at Mariposa and Illinois Streets. At a community meeting on June 23, neighbors gathered to generate ideas for building uses, including farmers and fish markets, arts and meeting spaces, kayak and bike rentals, and boat repair. Catch up on whats been discussed, and add your thoughts!

Also new Board of Directors, updates on Scott School Preschool efforts, Bluepeter building, greening efforts at the Mariposa St. off ramp, GreenTrust 22nd St. Greening project, police report, and more!
Calling ALL neighborhood groups!

Many of their agenda items may interest Booster members, and so we print their announcement here: A few development projects are coming alive again and we will be having two of the sponsors to our September meeting. With the new Eastern Neighborhoods zoning in place, it is important for the neighbors to discuss these projects with the sponsors, who may be considering changes including higher buildings, more density and change of use.

Our closest neighborhood association, the Dogpatch Neighborhood Association (many members are also Boosters), has a special meeting coming up on Tuesday, September 8, 7 to 9 pm at Sundance Coffee, 2295 3rd St, corner of Third St. and 20th St. (Normally, their meetings are in the even-numbered months of the year.)

We will be hosting a bus tour on Saturday, August 29 to visit four parks in San Francisco and one in San Mateo. The parks on the tour will include the two examples called out by project advocates, and provide both real models of what is being proposed for the area and possible alternatives to the proposal. The bus will leave Bayview Opera House at 10 am and return there at 4 pm. A light breakfast and box lunch will be provided.

Following up in part on last months Boosters meeting, Arc Ecology writes: The new parklands proposed for the Lennar Shipyard Candlestick Point project ... have been compared to Crissy Field, the Marina Green and other signature San Francisco parks, but you may wonder if these comparisons are accurate.

On a related note: after years of desire and good intentions, the Boosters are finally upgrading their website, and part of that will be links to as many Potrero Hill neighborhood associations as we can - neighborhood organizations, block associations, advocacy groups, garden clubs, HOAs, online discussion groups, everybody. Make sure your group(s) are linked on our site! Email president@potreroboosters.org with your groups info and any online links. Shop the new Mission Bay Farmers Market every Wednesday, rain or shine, for fresh and healthy California-grown fruits and vegetables. Located on the pedestrian pathway, Gene Friend Way Plaza, next to the T-Third stop. It will run Wednesdays, 10-3, rain or shine, to November 25.
