We want to make sure we are providing you with a valuable resource that informs, guides, and stimulates your thoughts on WBTB! This monthly article will consist of information that will keep the momentum going. We will focus on policy and procedures which are being developed and implemented. We have grown and developed over the past year and many of you may not know all that is a part of this amazing endeavor. I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities. I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service. I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession Law Enforcement.

As a member of Wives Behind The Badge it is my duty to reflect the Law Enforcement Officer Code Of Ethics in all I do in the name of or while conducting business as a member of the board of directors, staff, auxiliary directors, or volunteer.

These are the opening pages to our MP&P. Our loved ones take this oath to protect and serve and as an extension of and support for their positions we too as members of WBTB try to emulate their vow as ours in our lives as spouses, parents, community members, and as volunteers with WBTB.

Professional Conduct Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. Manual of Policy and Procedure CODE OF ETHICS As a Law Enforcement Officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice. I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought and deed in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my department. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty. I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities, or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, All Wives Behind The Badge members shall be held accountable for their actions, conduct, and speech when these behaviors conflict with Mission or Code Of Ethics. Personnel who cause undue embarrassment or damage the reputation of and/or erode the public's confidence in Wives Behind The Badge shall be deemed to have violated this policy. Accountability All WBTB volunteers shall be held accountable to the Board of Directors through the defined chain of command.

Accountability is the absolute obligation that all members be personally answerable for their individual actions. It is the responsibility of all volunteers to meet the standards of performance established for their positions. Accountability is also a commitment to the organization and the public we serve.

All volunteers will be evaluated on their compliance with the organizations Manual of Policy and Procedures, all Directives in support of the manual, Our Mission Statement, and the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics,

When Families Behind the Badge was created, in the spring of 2011, Wives Behind the Badge wanted to also create a safe, and fun, environment for the children of law enforcement officers. We wanted a place, a forums section on the Wives Behind the Badge forums, for kids ages 9 to 17, where the kids could safely gather, to meet other kids living the same lives they live, as police kids. After much thought and consideration, Blue Line Kids was born. Blue Line Kids is not only a forum, but also a program centered around the lives of police kids. Through our forums and local events, we hope to create a fun, educational, and supportive group where our kids feel comfortable and welcome and find lasting friendships.

POLICE Families Class

Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. is proud to sponsor an amazing class for officers, spouses, and other family members. P.O.L.I.C.E. Families is a class that gives all law enforcement families, not just police officers, tools to use to incorporate family life with the LE lifestyle following an outline based on the acronym of P.O.L.I.C.E. and the motto Protect and Serve. Law enforcement of all kinds present challenges in family relationships that are unique form other occupations. Learning about each other and how to communicate with each other will strengthen the relationships (souses, parents, and friends) and offers a better chance the relationship will survive through those challenges. Our goal in offering these classes is to present the families with basic tools to use and customize to their relationships to live life on their terms. Wouldnt it be nice to see law enforcement having one of the lowest divorce rates of all occupations? P.O.L.I.C.E. Families was designed by WBTBs chaplain, Mendi Keatts, during her Masters program for Mental Health Counseling. She and her husband a Roanoke Virginia Police Lieutenant with 18 years on the job worked together to get the class started in their academy. She wanted to create something more effective for her husbands departments academy than just a Lt. offering the spouses an education session on the behavior changes an officer experiences in the academy that they would have to learn to deal with and adjust to. Relationships, especially marriages, work best when both individuals give 100% to the relationship. One person doing all the accommodating for another creates resentment and tension. Therefore, the class is presented by a husband and wife who work together and share their own successes and failures in a casual atmosphere for the officers and any family members who wish to attend. In an effort to make family life work with the class presentation, children are made to feel welcome with snacks and activities. Since its initial presentation in Roanoke, Virginia, the class has also been presented in California at the Back the Badge conference by the WBTB Vice President Amanda Pekarek and with other individual officers and spouses across the country both in person and via Skype. After attending the class and training to present, Melisa Cross (WBTB Secretary and Western Auxiliary Assistant) and her husband Lloyd (Lahoma Police Chief) have spearheaded its accreditation for Oklahoma as Mental Health Continuing Education Units, starting a trend to do so in all states. Lloyd and Melisa both stated that even after 20 years of marriage, they learned some things and found it a valuable experience.
