Church and Sacraments

What is the Holy Eucharist?

The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament and a sacrifice. In the Holy Eucharist, under the appearances of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. The whole Christ is really, truly, and substantially present in the Holy Eucharist. We use the words "really, truly, and substantially" to describe Christ's presence in the Holy Eucharist in order to distinguish Our Lord's teaching from that of mere men who falsely teach that the Holy Eucharist is only a sign or figure of Christ, or that He is present only by His power. Christians, with but few minor exceptions, held the true doctrine of the Real Presence from the time of Christ until the Protestant Revolution in the sixteenth century. Its our way of saying Thanks! I love you to Jesus Christ. BREAD AND WINE

Biblical Readings
In the readings, the table of Gods word is laid before the people and treasures of the Bible are opened to them.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14

Liturgy of the Eucharist

The Eucharistic & the Lords Prayer
It is about thanking God, invoking God to send the Holy Spirit upon the gifts of bread and wine (to become the Body and Blood of Christ), remembering the words and actions of Jesus and the Holy Spirit (presence in the bread and wine), commemorating the passion, resurrection and the return, and praying for the living and the dead.

Homily

Introductory Rite

It disposes the assembly of the faithful into the heart of the celebration. We can see the procession of the ministers into the altar. Then, the presider leads the congregation in the sign of the cross, the greetings, the penitential rites, Gloria and the Opening Prayer. It serves as a reminder to the real purpose of their gathering.

It is a way of usually focusing on that day's scriptures and/or on the feast or special occasion being celebrated at that Mass. It can be a dose of inspiration in from of daily living based on the said scriptures.

The Bread and the Wine Profession of Faith

It is the opportunity given to the faithful to renew their baptismal promises.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord Apostles Creed

The Holy Communion, the most significant moment in the celebration when everyone, who receives Christ under the bread and wine, become united with Jesus and with one another.

Liturgy of the Word

It is the reading taken from the Old Testament, responsorial psalm, another reading but taken from the New Testament, the Alleluia, the Gospel, homily by the presider, the profession of faith and general intercessory prayers.

Concluding Rite

Preparation of the Gifts

A transitional rite which has its purpose to prepare the altar for the liturgy of the Eucharist.

It marks the commissioning of the faithful to do his/her role in the world that the celebration of giving thanks to God in the Eucharist does not end, but continues.
