INTRODUCTION

Word processing is the processing of textual information that may include the typing, editing, and formatting of information by using various ways and printing it after processing according to the requirement. The word processing can be done by using a word processor. A word processor is a software package that helps you to create, edit, format and print a document. Some popular word processors are WORDPERFECT, WORDSTAR, MS-WORD 6.0, MSOFFFICE 2000, MS-OFFICE 2007, MS-OFFICE 2010.

It gives a good view of document. It will print an error free document. It provides the facility to save the document automatically. It has a spell and grammar checking facilities. It provides the facility for boldface, italic, underline the selected text. It has a justification facilities so that text can be right justified, left justified. It should be able to change the font and size of the selected text. It has a facility to work with pictures, graphs and charts. It should have number of menus and command which are user friendly.

HOW TO START MS-WORD


Start Microsoft Word by clicking Microsoft word command from the group of the start menu. If Microsoft word is on the desktop, then double click the icon. The third option is to start the Microsoft word by selecting run command from the start menu and type winword.

OPENING AN EXISTING DOCUMENT

1) After opening the MS WORD, Choose OPEN option. 2) Press CTRL+O key combination from the key board. 3) Click open button from the standard toolbar. 4) Either double click on the file name or select the file name. 5) Then click OK button to open the file.

HEADER AND FOOTER

Header and footer are appearing at top and bottom of the document.

Header is the special document which often used for repeating the title of the document from page to page at the top of the page. Also graphics can be displayed as header. On the other hand footer is used for the same purpose but at the bottom of the document. It can also be used for placing backgrounds and watermarks on the page.

OFFICE BUTTON

Office button have various facilities such as to open a new page, to open a save file, to save and save as, print command, publish, close, exit options. Office button is a new facility provided in MS-OFFICE 2007 which will help the user to use all the above facilities easily and quickly. It also has a word options facility and it shows the recent documents created by the user.

QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR

It includes the following options:

The save button, with the help of this save button the file can easily save. It also have undo and redo buttons, to undo the data written. And at last it has an option of customize quick access toolbar. This will help to show the buttons which are commonly and mostly used by the user. A short cut method to save file is Ctrl + S key combination from the keyboard. You can rectify your error or cancel your current operation by using undo button.

TITLE BAR

Title bar displays the name of the present document Microsoft word. If you are creating a new document then it will be document 1 with MS- WORD. In the title bar there is three buttons. These are minimizes button, maximize button, and close button. Sometimes maximize button becomes restore button.

STATUS BAR

Status bar is below the workspace area. It is the last line of the screen. The status bar display the useful information such as current page and selection number, total number of page in your document. Click the tools menu and then select the status bar. An option dialog box will be appear

RULER

The line below the toolbar is called ruler bar or ruler or ruler line. The rulers usually reside on the left and top parameters of the work space area in the Microsoft word. Ruler provides accurate positioning and size references as you create or move objects on the page. The ruler also helps you to set and clear the tab positions. One is the horizontal ruler and second is vertical ruler bar. You can off/on the ruler by selecting the ruler command from the view menu.

THE RIBBON

It include the Home, Insert, Page Layout, Reference, Mailing, Review, View, Developer and help. There are mainly seven types of the ribbon displayed on the screen. In HOME the user can have the facility of clipboard, font, paragraph, styles and editing. INSERT include pages, tables, illustrations, links, header and footer, text and symbols.

SAVE FILE IN MS-WORD

Either click on the save command from office button or press ctrl + S key combination from the keyboard. Now type the file name in the file name box and press ok button.

EXIT MS-WORD
There are three ways to exit from the MS Word. Steps: Click the Microsoft Office button. A menu appears. Click Exit Word in the bottom-right corner. Then a dialog box appears: "Do you want to save changes to Document1?" To save changes, click Yes. Otherwise, click No. If you click Yes, the Save As dialog box appears.

Or Click at the cross button at the top right corner of the MS Word window. Or Press Alt+F4. The MS word will be closed.
