DESCRIPTION OF SUBMISSION 1. IDENTIFY AND DESCRIBE THE COMPONENTS OF THE MAJOR TOOL. The Major Tool is comprised of the items necessary to meet the standards and requirements of the course or subject for which it is designed and submitted. As part of this section, include a description of the educational approach of the submission. (Add pages as needed.)

EDUCATIONAL APPROACH: (The information provided here will be used in our catalog in the case of adoption of program.) Algebra, Structure and Method has been used successfully in algebra classes across the United States for many years. This is the latest edition of the popular series by Mary Dolciani. The strengths of the program are its complete topic coverage, clear development of mathematical concepts, and carefully sequenced exercises sets. This contemporary course provides a no-nonsense approach to the study of algebra and incorporates problem solving, applications, reasoning skills, geometric models, and explorations. Lessons begin with an objective and are presented through clear, concise language. Students work together through Oral Exercises and then work independently on Written Exercises that are leveled and progress in difficulty. Samples are included, not only in the lesson; but also within the exercise sets. Mixed Review Exercises are included in every lesson so students stay current in their newly acquired skills. MAJOR TOOL - STUDENT COMPONENTS: Algebra, Structure and Method, Book 1, Pupils Edition The content is presented through chapters that are divided into several groups of related lessons. Objectives are stated at the start of each lesson. Lessons focus on the underlying structure of algebraic content, as well as methods and applications. Worked-out Examples illustrate and reinforce the content and skills taught. Vocabulary words are boldfaced in the text and appear in the glossary. Important information is boxed for easy reference and review. Oral Exercises provide students and teachers with immediate feedback of lesson comprehension. Written Exercises are graded for varying levels of student ability. Problems put skills practice in a problem-solving context. Mixed Review exercises at the end of lessons maintain previously taught skills. Special features include Applications; Reading Algebra notes; Challenges and Extras to extend thinking skills; and Career, Historical, and Biographical Notes for enrichment. Self-tests, included every 3-4 lessons, focus on important vocabulary and key concepts. Other testing and review features include Summaries, Review, and Tests; Cumulative Reviews; Maintain Skills for review of arithmetic and basic algebra skills; and Preparing for College Entrance Exams. MAJOR TOOL - TEACHER COMPONENTS: Algebra, Structure and Method, Book 1, Teachers Edition The teachers edition provides pupil pages with answers and side column notes including Warm-up Exercises, lesson motivators, Chalkboard Examples, Guided Practice, lesson summaries, Quick Quizzes, and a differentiate assignment guide including the Maximum course pacing. Before each chapter, the Teachers Edition provides six pages of support materials including objectives, an assignment guide, and supplementary materials guide. The front of the Teachers Edition provides chapter-by-chapter Lesson Commentary, reproducible tests, and reviews.

2. Briefly describe the ANCILLARY materials submitted for purchase and their relationship with the major tool. (Add additional pages as necessary) STUDENT COMPONENTS: The pupils edition is the student component of this program. TEACHER COMPONENTS: Teachers Resource File: Resource Book includes Tests, Practice Exercises, Mixed Review, Problem Solving, Applications, Enrichment, Using Technology, Thinking Skills, Warm-Up Exercises, Diagram Masters, and Answers. Study Guide for Reteaching and Practice is a set of worksheets designed for reteaching, extra practice, and other make-up work. Two pages of material are provided for each lesson in the text. Vocabulary Review, worked-out examples, and cautions about common errors prepare students for the practice exercises. Practice exercises follow the worked-out examples and build gradually in difficulty. Short Mixed Reviews in each lesson boost students skill retention. A separate Answer Key is packaged with this booklet. Practice Masters, keyed to the lessons in the textbook, offer extra practice in fundamental concepts and skills. Worksheets on small clusters of sections, and cumulative reviews on groups of chapters, are provided. A separate Answer Key to Practice Masters is included. and Tests booklet includes tests on small clusters of sections, chapter tests (in two parallel forms), cumulative tests on groups of chapters. A separate Answer Key to Tests is included.

Solution Key contains worked-out solutions to the exercises in the textbook. Multiple Choice Tests contains a test for every chapter in the student book; a cumulative test for Chapters 1-7, Chapters 8-16, and Chapters 1-16; a diagram master for a multiple-choice answer sheet; and an answer key. Overhead Visuals are transparencies organized into folders by textbook topic. Suggestions for using each visual with specific lessons are provided.

3.

HOW MUCH INSTRUCTIONAL TIME IS NEEDED? Identify and explain the suggested instructional time for this submission. If a series, state the suggested time for each level. The goal is to determine whether the amount of content is suitable to the length of the course for which it is submitted.

Algebra, Structure and Method, Book 1 is intended for one year (two semesters) of academic study or an equivalent block of time.

Demonstrate understanding and use the tools of data analysis for managing information. MA.E.1.4.1 MA.E.1.4.2 interpret data that has been collected, organized, and displayed in charts, tables, and plots. calculate measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and dispersion (range, standard deviation and variance) for complex sets of data and determine the most meaningful measure to describe the data. analyze real-world data and make predictions of larger populations by applying formulas to calculate measures of central tendency and dispersion using the sample population data and using appropriate technology, including calculators and computers.
