80:20 - Development in an unequal world

6th Edition
Publication date 4 April 2012 The 6th edition of this internationally popular development education resource will be published by 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World, Ireland and UNISA Press, South Africa in early April 2012. Written by a team of international authors and edited by Colm Regan, this new edition has been completely revised and updated with new chapters on, for example, justice and development; women's rights; human development today; resources, conflict and development and art, literature, music and development and more. 80:20 also includes double page infographics; new cartoons from Martyn Turner and John Clark (Brick) and photos by Gareth Bentley and Garry Walsh and much more.

80:20 Development in an Unequal World is a wonderful resource for teachers and learners alike. If we really believe that enabling young people to be 'responsible citizens' is a fundamental aim of the curriculum, then this book, with its in-depth analysis of a whole range of issues affecting people across the world, should become an essential resource in the 'learning classroom'. It is attractive, engaging, challenging and never simplistic or patronising and could allow schools to put global education at the heart of the curriculum. It is particularly useful as schools seek to engage learners in inter-disciplinary learning. Professor Brian Boyd, Scotland The resource also includes: A support DVD with over 100 suggested activities for using 80:20 (including 20 'starter' activities) A set of themed videos with ideas on their use A range of topical posters plus activities Stimulus sheets to generate discussion and debate and an annotated guide to useful internet sites. 80:20 is widely used at introductory university level; among teachers and students at senior post-primary level; by NGO personnel in education and training as well as in adult and youth education contexts. For a full list of contents, go to www.8020.ie where you can also read and download free extracts and graphics. Price: 17.50 (including DVD); bulk order discounts available. In the UK, the book + DVD or just the DVD are available to order by contacting: isabel@scotdec.org.uk or Call John Dornan on 01236 707907.
