CARIGARA, Leyte - The archdiocese of Palo is set to conduct a probe on a report of an image of Santo Nio shedding tears of blood.
This was revealed by Father Amadeo Alvero, spokesperson of the archdiocese, who was quick in saying that despite the planned probe, they would not stop the faithful to venerate the image that was said to have cried with blood on three separate occasions early this month. There is no enough evidence yet whether it is true or not. There will be a further investigation to be made, Alvero said. First, there will be continuing observance of the events by the family themselves who will report to the parish priest. Then the priest will study it, Alvero added. And once the parish priest, Father Ivan Petilos, finds a cause for its veracity, he will then report it to Archbishop John Du who will form a committee that will further conduct an investigation and study on the matter for its truthful-

Artists month
ot many of us are aware that the month of February is celebrated as the National Arts Month (NAM) since we only know of it as the month of love. This annual nationwide celebration began in 1991 when Presidential Proclamation 683 was signed, with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) spearheading the month-long activities. Initial activities rst centered on the National Capital Region, but this time, NAM activities have already spread throughout the archipelago, to include Eastern Visayas Region. This is the result of the consolidation of NAM activities by the NCCA, which made use of a certain format since 2007, and came up with the Philippine Arts Festival (PAF), a agship project of NCCAs committees on the artsarchitecture, dance, cinema,
theater, music, literature, and the visual arts. It can be recalled that the Philippine Arts Festival, the countrys biggest and longest annual arts event, opened on January 29, 2012 via free workshops, kite ying and performances highlighting those seven arts at the Concert at the Park in Rizal Park, Manila where known, emergent, and innovative artists took the center stage to showcase samples of their works. PAF aims to further Philippine art and the Filipinos regard for local arts and culture. Workshops, exhibitions, forums, performances and many more, are taking place in various parts of the country to enhance awareness that art forms part of our culture and mirrors our collective soul, consciousness, and emotions.

A love-month story
Every time I see a foreigner walking along sidewalks a native Filipina, I am reminded about the story of a similar couple whose supposed relationship blossomed long ago. This was long before the computer and internet and cellphone came along. Communication then was still through long distance telephone calls and letters. It was the tale of a farm girl who was exchanging letters with an American guy, as the name suggested, for a likely serious relationship. In a letter months later, the guy proposed marriage to the girl, saying that he would come to the Philippines just for the purpose. The girl nervously agreed in her letter response and told her parents about it. The parents, thinking of it as their chance to rise economically, readily agreed. he broke the news to his daughter, terrified, almost in a state of shock. That man, he said, is not white but black. So black that he looks like a kettle that had not been washed for years. Not only that, he is so big that he looks like an unglo (kapre), a giant indeed. Then he paused. Iday, dont ever marry that man, he begged, not explaining why but suggesting in his face an intense pity for his daughter as if she is in great danger. His daughter turned pale, equally shocked, terribly worried. They both went home after taking so long, and then explained to the excited visitor that the supposed marriage wont push through. The guy, who
True to his word, the American guy came. Arriving in the town, he went to the police station to ask for help as the girls address was located in a rural area somewhere. The guy, using his money, got his needed assistance so he could locate the place. It was a sunny day so they did not find it difficult to find the girls place although they still had to hike all the way to that area. When they arrived in the girls nipa house, only
the parents were home. Their daughter, they said, was doing the laundry in a nearby river. The guy without much ado introduced himself as the girls lover, showing in his hand, as his evidence, the girls letter in which she agreed to his marriage proposal, even instructing him how to find her house. The visitors then were made to wait as the father fetched his daughter from where she was. The father rushed to the river. Catching his breath,

Be Proactive, Relax!
Honestly, I exist because I am, C & K deadlines, editing requests, reading New York Times, classroom moderation, domestic chores, yet I still find the compelling power of replenishment. I pamper myself with cheap, good food, bottomless sleep, delightful reading stuff, little gossip, and of course, so much day dreaming. Lately, I take delight in entertaining Mom for hours. I challenged to take her to Russia, if her BP is managed. My premise - the energy that we put in to our job should be managed adeptly, so that we get more things done in less time. Our formula is simple when we reconstruct, we are truly renewing, so when we are working, we can really work. Remember that restoration is derived from our physiology. We are so designed to use energy between spending and recovering. So, relax and feel upbeat.
Pity the president as he is put to compromise his popularity that run on his Daang Matuwid advocacy. The illustration of a smooth and straight road contrasted to the rough and crooked path that his predecessor journeyed proved as an effective message for the hopeless Filipinos to choose what is right after being submissive to the corrupt ways of a woman despot who stretched too much near yield point the patience of the people. The options were clear that voters would identify with the choice that brings hope to the hopeless after living in a hapless state. With the needed support and trust by the people, the president peaked in approval rating as he pursued to correct the iniquitous and anomalous catapulting of one Renato C. Corona to the top magistrates seat. The appointment made by her predecessor was a mockery of our constitutional tenets and principles. The fight to rid the judiciary of such an anomalous appointee who got the backing of the collegial tribunal, the president had to harness the support of the legislature to give impetus to initiatives to impeach the chief magistrate. After the removal of the chief justice, people keep their hope that institutional reforms will soon follow, beginning with the prosecution of the then doubtful president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The campaign was strengthened with the
Straight line?
Do you wake up tired? Drag your feet to report for work? Race to the terminal in time for the first trip? Is this your typical workday? Most of us operate at unsustainable pace. We juggle, attend hours and hours of meetings, skip lunch, open and close emails, hardly knowing that the best way to get things done is to spend more time doing less. Can you do that? Relax, snooze, pep talks with bosses, long brisk walks, visits to old folks, all these among others show that relaxation and rejuvenation heightens productivity, confidence, job performance, and above all, health.
It is performance rating season, and in most public sector workplaces, rewards still accrue to those who push the hardest and most. But that does not mean they are the most productive. I have this bias for revolution. While offices are laboratories and teach us principles, yet we endure to ignore. Gyms and sports facilities we never get to use, lounging areas converted into stock rooms, prayer rooms morphing into coffee corners, micro-managing supervisors, but employees are not allowed to relax and dedicate some space for renewal, of course except for the mandatory leaves.

READY TO PRAY
God Himself gave rules of ritual cleanness to Moses for the people to follow. As centuries passed on, some Jews specialized on extending these rules, until they became so many that no one could hope to know them all. The Pharisees were pre-occupied with following these rules of mere external observance and Christ accused them of it. A man who has to spend too much time getting ready to pray, has less time to pray. His mind is on Things to do. A man who has to observe the cleanliness of his neighbor in order to know if his neighbor is fit to associate with, does not love his neighbor as himself. Christ pointed out this falsity to the Jews and they did not like it. Have we learned to pray always and not to grow weak about it? Wherever we are, whatever we do, do we pray? Do our external actions become prayers? (The Daily Gospel Now by Robert E. Sullivan, O.M.I., published by Paulines. Visit us at www.paulines.ph or at Paulines Media Center, Real St., Tacloban City. Tel. #321-3195) Sowers thought: What leads the faithful to a practicing Christian life is precisely the virtue of those who teach it. What is needed is the flame of good example, not just words. Where draws the line between loving and keeping the relationship for all it is worth? If love culminates in marriage and marriage heightens further into building supposedly a family, with children whose future is largely reliant on the nurturing that their parents provide them from conception henceforth, why would there be instances of broken family? Is it because the church, regardless of sect or denomination, is remiss in inculcating the values of martyrdom or is it because the advocates of laws that results to sepa-
ration of warring spouses are more aggressive in their crusade? Easier said than done, martyrdom for the sake of love is now losing meaning with the advent of advocacies and pursuits both in the government and private sectors. This is beside the fact that there are individuals who flaunt themselves as religious fanatics yet are at the same time advocates pushing for recognition of civil liberties, such as law on anti-violence against women and their children, annulment of marriages, nullity of marriage and now the pro-
Over the years, then, the NCCA as well as private and government agencies, organize events and activities to highlight the artistic brilliance of the Filipinos. This should make us happy and proud since here in our region, we do have artists who deserve rightful recognition as their contributions to the countrys art and culture are equally superb; so these activities for this month are for them. Long live our artists!

the second time around. Is it not so? There are countless attestation of more active sex life between couples who would usually get entangled in petty quarrel, largely simple misunderstanding. There are also court cases filed for violation of RA 9262 (Anti-VAWC law) that end up being dismissed by virtue of either the desistance of the petitioner or the private offended party or her failure to prosecute the case for quite a time because she and the respondent or the accused have reconciled. This reconciliation may not on the basis of a rekindled passion and affection for each other but mostly for the welfare of the children. It should be noted that by and large streetchildren are products of either a dysfunctional or, if not, a broken family. Rev. Fr. Amadeo Alvero, a parochial vicar of Sto. Nio Parish and the Social Communications director of the Archdiocese of Palo, is underscored, however, a need for couples whose relationship are on the rocks to take their respective task in preserving the family. issues at a practical and local level. This nationwide search also aims to develop skills and understanding among students, faculty and school administrators to initiate active responses and increase community awareness and involvement on environmental concerns, Munsayac said. She added that the ecofriendly schools program was launched last 2009 and 2011 in which they have generated positive responses from the schools and this paved the way for the next wave of the competition in 2013. We intended to have the awarding of the search next year instead of this year to allow schools more time to prepare and to enhance their existing eco-friendly programs. We are hoping to encourage more schools to participate and take part in heightening environmental awareness among our youth,Munsayac said. Munsayac emphasized that the national search is a joint activity of the DENR through the EMB, the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in cooperation with the Smart Communications, Nestle Philippines, One Meralco Foundation, Petron Foundation and Unilever Philippines. With this, participating schools must submit entries in three hard copies to respective DepEd Division Oces for elementary and high school categories, and to EMB regional oces for the higher education category. Likewise, entries can be submitted online in JPEG format with a resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi), a minimum size of 1536 x 2048 pixels, and a maximum file size of 1MB. Entries should be emailed to ecofriendlyschools@gmail.com. The top entry per category for every region will be forwarded to the EMB central oce for national judging. For elementary and high school categories, entries should be submitted directly to their respective DepEd division oces. On the other hand, for the college category, entries should be submitted to the nearest EMB Regional Office. The deadline for the submission of entries is on March 15, 2013. the straight path campaign upon erring public officials in the various corners of government, the challenge to find allies that will help propel the reforms he had been advocating. The promise of a straight path is somehow being carried to the excitement of the gigantic foreigner. It was a hasty wedding in a church. After their wedding, before living happily ever after, the guy carried the girl with one arm in front of the crowd, as though he was carrying a small child given his towering figure. Well, the moments that followed are now part of history. We dare not trace what else had taken place. You, girls who are seeking for foreigners nowadays, be sure to see the guy first in the Internet. Dont just depend on e-mails, or cellphone text messages. Above all, make sure you know the guys identity based on your preferences since you might end up marrying a giant, or someone you might be terrified to be with.

happened to be a member of an American football team, reacted angrily, asking the family for a refund of all the money he spent in coming to the country or else he will sue the family in court for the moral and financial damages he incurred. This forced the family to convene in the corner to count how much their assets are worth: a nipa house, a carabao, and a small piece of land. But all these, though sold out, will not reach the amount the stranger was demanding from them. Frustrated and scared, the family finally agreed for the marriage to push through, against their will,
to satisfy or even just get close to an acceptable approximation of the ideal that was envisioned at the outset of the presidential campaign in 2010. People have witnessed the reforms which to the mind of many could have caused positive desirable changes that could bring about the realization of their hopes and aspirations. Many of those who were included in the administration slate in this midterm elections are people who are far from straight if not downright crooked. The accommodation of senatorial bets that fall short of the advocacys exacting standards would certainly compromise the campaign against graft and corruption. People are fully aware that some of the big names in the administration lineup are up in line for investigation and prosecution. The link between those who live the advocacy of the straight path with those that are identified wallowing in the crooked path will eventually cause crookedness in what once was an ideal straight line. Unfortunately, the piece of cloth she used in wiping off the blood from the image was thrown by her, Marpa said. The last time the image was seen crying has attracted the people of the neighborhood and the rest of the town. Throng of people visited their house even at a time that they were about to sleep, Marpa said. We have lost some privacy. We could not have our meal at a regular time due to the visits of these people. But we are not complaining. If they believe the miracle, so be it. If not, just say nothing, she said. And one of them was Jay-R Benis, 25 and a resident of Brgy. Ponong. I saw some blood from the eyes of the Santo Nio. I dont know, but it was kind of scary seeing an image shedding some tears of blood, Benis, who believed that the blood were real, said. And since the image made the miracle, the joint pains she was experiencing has been gone, Marpa said. And it was Onick who asked for it to the Santo Nio, she said.
