Dear All, Welcome to your whistle stop tour of filmmaking!

This is an outline of the reading week course although it may change slightly if I get inspired something I think is important. As you will see we are fitting a lot into a few days and it is worth noting that editing always takes longer than you think! To speed things along a bit I would appreciate it if everyone would think a bit about a film project that they would like to make, something that can be filmed in a day. Dont worry it is not fully formed the course will help you plan and structure it and it will inevitably change in the process. The course will focus on nonfiction filmmaking but there is space to make fiction if people wish to do so. I look forward to meeting you, Best wishes, Rosemary

a) Exercise. To shoot a Process film. This film will be about documenting a process, be it someone walking to a destination or any process that occurs over a period of time. However it has to have its own chronological narrative. The editing of this film will be done in camera and there will be no post-production. Neither will it rely on vocal narrative to tell the story. This means that the choice of shot and the how each shot is positioned has to be carefully considered before filming so that the narrative seems continuous. In this exercise students will have to think about continuity and issue of time in this exercise. Each film should be no longer than 2-3mintues. FINISH
