Understandings: Students will understand that literature can provide historical references and links between the past and the present. the characters that are portrayed in literature reveal traits, attitudes and behaviour patterns that are common to every person or shared by persons in a specific group or situation. writing a reaction paper involves expressing ones opinions intelligently.

Essential Questions:

Why should one learn to accept his/ her own limitations in life? How can a person be true to himself/ herself? What does it take to write a good reaction paper?

The students will know the literary genre, its types and characteristics. the types of characterization. base words, prefixes and suffixes. how to use SQ3R method. word order in English.

The students will be able to point out the characteristics of a satire as a literary genre. identify the kind of characterization used in a selection. give the definition of a word by analysing its base word, prefix and suffix. use the SQ3R method to study a text.

point out whether the sentence uses the natural or inverted method. write a reaction to a literary text.
