The original idea for this months Editorial was one long rant about something that I havent been happy with in the local scene, but then I thought none of my loyal readers would want to hear me go on about something that really doesnt matter in the scheme of things. I then came up with the idea of which Interstate workers I would like to see in WA. I follow the Australian scene through the WNA website, as well as watching DVDs, and have quite the list of workers I would like to see here either more often or for the first time. South Australian talent I would love to see over here would be names like Robby Heart, The Graham Brothers, Greg and Joey, John E. Radic, Zak Sabbath, Rocky Menero, Blue Blood (who I missed at AAWs Full Force 2010), Mimic, and G.D. Grimm. I was lucky enough to see the Tag Team of Dick and Balls in their last match together in Adelaide at NWA Pros ReEmerging 3 last year, as they had been a team Id heard good things about. Victorian talent I would like to see includes Matt Silva, Mike Petersen, Mad Dog McCrea, Cletus Blood, Ryan Rollins and Chris Knight. NSW/ACT talent including The Fitness Maniacs of Mikey Broderick and Sean OShea (FITNESS!!!), Blakestone, The Captain, Iron Jay, and Ryan Eagles (who I also missed at AAWs Full Force 2010), as well as Esteban Molina and Mason Childs from QLD. What Interstate talent would WPW readers like to see wrestle in WA? Let us know on the WPW Facebook page! Always support your local product! Tez

THE ROAD TO CHAMPION VS. CHAMPION The build up to the Champion vs. Champion match at Anniversary IV between Platinum Champion, Craven and Platinum Australian Champion, Wayne The Maniac Mattei continued at Full Force 2010 with a pair of Pick Your Poison matches. The Maniac picked Cravens opponent, NSWs Ryan Eagles in the weeks leading up to the event, and Craven picked Matteis opponent, Joey Angel on the night. The Maniac took care of Joey Angel and Craven defeated Eagles. The two champions have been announced to take each other on in an Arm Wrestling Contest at Road To Anniversary on March 13.

ANGEL ANGLING FOR A SHARK BITE Joey Angels anger towards the Shark, for what happened with Raven at New Beginnings, took an extreme turn at Full Force, when he attacked AAW Womens Champion, Imogen Jane with an RKO, while she had been cutting a promo about her upcoming match at Anniversary IV. The Shark had earlier refuted Angels challenge for a match at Anniversary IV, leading to Angel taking matters in to his own hands. WPW contacted The Shark to get his thoughts on the attack on Imogen, the infuriated Shark promised that for Joey Angel, Next show, actions will speak louder then words. NO CHAMPIONSHIP GRACE FOR BLUE BLOOD WA State Champion, James Grace successfully defended his title against South Australian, Blue Blood at Full Force 2010. The Snakepit star gave the young rookie one of his toughest challenges to date. Capture: All Action Wrestling JURAHS CHAMPIONSHIP CHANCE Nine months after the birth of the Blackest Hour at Evolution 2009, sees the continuing battle with Jamie Jurah after Jurah earned a shot at Richters EPW Championship at Goldrush 3. Rise or Fall saw Jurah defeat long time rival Devlin Reeves in a brutal All or Nothing Match. Richter and Jurah have a history dating back to the first Re-Awakening in 2002 when Richter knocked out a couple of Jurahs teeth during their first encounter. Since that match both men have two victories against the other, with their last encounter at Evolution 2009 for the EPW Championship. Will Jurah end Richters nine month reign or will the champion continue his dominance over the EPW roster? STORM RETAINS INVITATIONAL TROPHY The controversy from the ending of the four man Invitational Final at ReAwakening 8 has been settled with Davis Storm defeating Damian Slater in a Two out of Three Falls Match at Rise or Fall. The match, which lasted for 30 minutes, was a long time coming, and was a Dream Match for Storm, personally, as well as long time EPW fans. WPW caught up with Slater the week Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling after the match to get a comment, "It took over half an hour but I guess the Ironman proved that he still has it. Whilst I have my immediate sights set on Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste's tag team gold, Storm better always have me in his sights. A return match MUST and WILL happen for The Golden boy. I'm not done on this mission!" EPWS LOCO RETURN Explosive Pro Wrestling returned to Loco TV on February 12, with the first episode of Friday Night Wrestling. The episode featured the classic Hardcore encounter between Bobby Marshall and Victorias KrackerJak from the second night of Evolution 2009. Friday Night Wrestling will be available every week at 7pm at www.locotv.com.au. FNW is the fifth series of EPW programming. The first three series of Monday Night Wrestling were shown on Access 31 in 2008 with the third series cut short due to the closure of the channel. The fourth series of MNW was shown on Loco TV in 2009. The second episode on February 19 featured the EPW Tag Team Championship Match between then champions, Shane Haste and Alex Kingston taking on the invading Victorian duo of Slex and Carlo Cannon from Night 2 of Evolution 2009.

MOUNTAINS DID COLLIDE The first SHWA Championship defence for Mad Mike Massive at When Mountains Collide against Jake Paragon was a successful one after he scored the victory with a Massive Slam on the Alpha and Omega of Australian Wrestling. Massive suffered an injury to his arm in the gruelling bout which took a lot out of both big men. Massives next challenger to the championship, is the Muscle Militias Pain who won a number one contenders Battle Royal to earn at title shot at Shock and Awe. RAVAGES FALL FROM GRACE? Sean Ravage let loose with rage during a promo after his loss in the Triple Threat Match against Pain and newcomer Avalanche at When Mountains Collide. Ravage spat with venom and hatred toward the fans, I decided that I dont care about them, Jake Paragon or anyone the people class as a hero, so I attacked Avalanche and now I only look out for what I want. Screw the fans. Westside Pro Wrestling contacted Ravage to shed some light on the situation, Paragon still in a rage replied with this warning for Avalanche, Maybe you and the rest of all the pathetic wastes of life that are referred to as fans didn't hear me clearly when I said "I dont care, what about them". They turned on me, so I turned the other way, and as for Avalanche, I hear he is looking for me...I have a message for that piece of crap, I'll be waiting, and as for all the other "Heroes" of the fans, I could put them all to an Eternal Rest just like I did Avalanche at the end of our match The angry Ravage continued, I dont need to shed light, I bring all the Dark Terror when I step into that squared circle...now beat it pal!!!!"

SHWAS FUTURE ON SHOW When Mountains Collide saw the debut of three rookies, Ash Lightning, Dan Steel and Avalanche. Steel defeated Jack Lariat in a pre-show match, Lightning lost to The Wraith, and Pain defeated Sean Ravage and Avalanche in a Triple Threat Match. All three newcomers participated in a #1 Contenders Battle Royal later on the card with Lightning putting in an impressive effort being the last man eliminated by Pain. Fellow rookie, Jimmy Jamal Jenkins, who was due to make his debut was unable to compete due to a broken collarbone, managed Lightning. NEW HORIZON GOING HIGH RISK South Australian promotion High Risk Pro Wrestling talent is invading NHPW during the Global Conflict tour in April/May. HRPW promoter, Blake The Man Mitchell will be making his prescence known again to NHPW. The Man will this time be bringing his tag team partner, one half of the current HRPW Tag Team Champions, The Portraits of Perfection, Matthew Hallmark, as well as David Hawk and the returning, Cannonball Kris Taylor. BOBBY MARSHALL LOSES TITLE The near two month M1W Championship reign of Bobby Marshall was ended by Willie Mack in a Four Way Match at Friday Fight Night on February 5. The match also included former M1W Champion Red Tornado James Morgan, who Marshall had defeated for the title, and PWG star, Joey Ryan. Marshall along with Dan Moore returned home to WA in mid February. HASTE HEADING TO THE WARZONE April 23, will see EPWs Shane Haste get the first shot at Damian Slaters Warzone Championship at Warzone 4 in Hampton Park, Victoria. against Victorian, Matt Silva. Does Haste stand a chance against Slater or will the other 3 Kings members, Jag Hartley Jackson and Carlo Cannon interfere to help keep the belt around the waist of their leader? MANAS INTERSTATE TRAVELS The NHPW Art of Fighting Champion, Mana has several Interstate appearances booked in the next few months. March will see the Polynesian Warrior make his debut for High Risk Pro Wrestling during the tapings of their new TV show, LiveWire. Mana will be taking on former WWE superstar, Al Snow on the second night of the tapings in Mt. Barker on March 28. World Series Wrestlings International Assault III: War To Settle The Score tour during May will see Mana competing on the Melbourne and Sydney cards. MDKS SUCCESSFUL SA TOUR AAWs M. Logo by Liam It's time for another issue of Westside Pro Wrestling, which means another edition of The San Count. In this edition, I'll be starting a series of top 3 lists that will last over the next four issues of WPW, counting down the top 3 shows of a promotion that I have witnessed. In this issue, I'll be kicking it off with All Action Wrestling (AAW). 3. In Your Face You may be wondering why this show cracked the list instead of New Beginnings, well, due to being out of the country, I could not attend New Beginnings, so instead In Your Face has made the list. This show was highlighted by two great matches, with a few other contests in between. The opener of this event was Jimmy Swell defending (and losing) his WA State Championship against James Grace, which was a good, fast paced opener which really set the bar for the rest of the night, and if it weren't for the main event, it would've taken match of the night. The main event of the show was Dustin Dice vs. David Nero for the AAW Championship, which was a great main event and a great way to end the night. The other matches on this show were B-Money vs. Jaxx, Imogen Jane and Killah vs. Mark Valour and Michelle, Bravo Tarir vs. MDK vs. Corvus Blade and The Shark vs. JC Blade. 2. Unleashed 2009 With the year coming to a close, AAW wanted to finish it with a bang, and I truly believe they did with this event. Most of the matches on this show were evenly solid, these being Chris Stevens vs. James Grace, The Maniac vs. Mark Valour and the main event battle royal. But the one match that caught my attention as being the match of the night was the triple threat match for the AAW Championship, The Shark vs. David Nero vs. Dustin Dice (c), which saw the rise of David Nero as he became the AAW Champion for the very first time. I always enjoy a rumble / battle royal, and although they seemed to be short on numbers, I enjoyed the annual battle known as the Unleashed Rumble. It was an enjoyable show, and a good way to end to the year. 1.Anniversary III With the other two shows listed being 'enjoyable', Anniversary III was, awesome! This show featured international and interstate wrestlers competing in some outstanding matches. The show kicked off with Killah successfully defending his AAW Independent title against David Nero in a solid encounter, but it only got better as Dustin Dice took on, and defeated, USA's Kirby Mack (trained by The Hardys) in the match of the night, which was my match of the year for AAW. The outside talent didn't stop there as Mason Childs took on Joey Angel, and The Shark went one on one with PWW Champion Erico in the main event of the evening. Overall the show was great, and a good first AAW experience for me. Seeing guys like Mason Childs and Kirby Mack live for the first time only added to my

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 6

experience at this show. As mentioned, Dustin Dice vs. Kirby Mack was the definite match of the night, followed by Killah vs. David Nero and The Shark vs. Erico. This has been my top three list of AAW shows, thanks for reading! In the next issue, I'll attempt to do the near-impossible task of compiling my top three Explosive Pro Wrestling (EPW) shows!

All Action Wrestling's Craven is one of the current Platinum Heavyweight Champions and a four year pro of the WA scene. Craven has wrestled throughout Australia and the United States. Westside Pro Wrestling's Tez Himself had the opportunity to speak to the Australian Sensation. WPW: How did you get your start in wrestling and who did you train with? CRAVEN: WOW, this goes back a while. I started wrestling in 2006 when All Action Wrestling started, Andrew "The Shark" Carter gave me my first shot in a squared circle and I haven't stopped since. WPW: Next month will mark the fourth year of your wrestling career (Debuted March 4, 2006 at AAW Action 1). What have been your favourite matches over the past four years? CRAVEN: Okay my top 3 would be against Erico at AAW Aftermath 2009, versus The Shark at AAW Superclash 2008 and against Jimmy Jacobs in Michigan City, IN, USA. WPW: You made your US debut in 2009. Do You have any interesting/funny stories from your first trip to the States? CRAVEN: Yes, but Im sure I cant talk about them in the issue, hahahaha!

Photo: Mark L/Tez Himself

WPW: The knee injury you suffered back in October came at such a bad time, as you had just won your first World Title. It must have been a rollercoaster of highs and lows for you. How did the injury came about? CRAVEN: I tore my PCL in my left knee in my World Title match and had to cut my US tour short. It killed me. I remember telling Erico on the phone I had to go home for surgery. I was crying like a bitch because I was on top of the world, and at my best but shit happens you can only go up right!!! WPW: Can you tell us about the therapy and recovery you had to go through to get back in the ring? CRAVEN: Lots of Physio and surgery. I was not meant to get back in the ring for 12 weeks but I sort of jumped the gun a bit, "Which I don't advise!". But I feel at about 90% now and hopefully 100% before I hit the states again in April and Anniversary 4! WPW: In January you were re-awarded the Platinum Heavyweight Championship. Now there are two Platinum Heavyweight Champions, the other being Brutus Dylan in the US. I guess there will be a unification match somewhere down the line between yourself and either Brutus Dylan or Erico depending on the outcome of the First Blood Match at Platinum's Sweet Sacrifice show in February. You have wrestled both men before, do you have a preference to who you would prefer to wrestle if this is the case? CRAVEN: Not really they are two very strong and amazing. Theyre both gonna be tough but hey, Aussie

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 7

muscle over American. WPW: You have got a big match coming up in AAW, since you put the challenge for a Title vs. Title match with Wayne "The Maniac" Mattei. The battle of the Platinum champions will be taking place at Anniversary IV. Mattei is undefeated in AAW singles competition. Are you confident you can be the first to defeat the big man and claim both titles? CRAVEN: Damn straight! I have a lot of respect for Wayne and we are good friends, but the tension between us right now you could cut with a knife! WPW: Who would you like to wrestle in the future, either in Australia or the US? CRAVEN: Every wrestlers dream is to get to "the Fed" if you dont inspire to be Vince McMahons champion, get out of the businesssorry. But I would love Aussie wrestling to grow and be a part of it! Photo: All Action Wrestling WPW: You are heading back to the States sometime in 2010. How long are you planning to stay over there this visit? CRAVEN: Unsure, but I am leaving April 18th. WPW: Thank you for taking the time to speak to Westside Pro Wrestling, Craven CRAVEN: No worries mate! As a Southern California native, when I think of Australians I typically think of Crocodile Dundee, Kangaroos, Koalas, or Outback Steakhouse. When someone mentions wrestling in Australia the feint sound of Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport fills my ears and I reflect on my fond memories of Outback Jack and his appearance for the World Wrestling Federation. However nearly 25 years have passed since Outback Jack and The Australian Wrestling Scene is leaps and bounds since then. Western Australia alone has a handful of promotions, but today Im talking about NWA affiliate Explosive Pro Wrestling. In the world of professional wrestling any influx of talent from one wrestling promotion to another is often referred to as an invasion. And the invasion of Southern California wrestling by Western Australians dates back to late 2005 and since the invasion 15 Australians have used the SoCal Wrestling Scene as a learning excursion and for a short while, called Southern California home. The Western Australian Connection to SoCal all comes down to a meeting of Explosive Pro Wrestlers, Hartley Jackson (who is actually from Southern Australia) and Mikey Nicholls and the NWA. NWA Pro Wrestling had started to gain a foothold in the Southern California wrestling scene with its ties to the World Famous Inoki Dojo. There at the Inoki Dojo recruited talent from across the country and across the world. The talent was originally groomed for chances to appear in New Japan Pro Wrestling, which was exemplified by Bryan Danielson, TJ Perkins, Ricky Reyes, Rocky Romero, Tommy Williams, later by Fergal Devitt and Karl the Machinegun Anderson. Two wayward travelers Hartley Jackson and Mikey Nicholls came to the United States for an opportunity to be apart of the famous gym. Unfamiliarity of the local area kept the duo from reaching the dojo right away. It wasnt after a miraculous call by Hartley that guided the two to the Dojo. David Marquez had said I get a phone call from Ed Chuman. He tells me he got a call from two Australians. I dont even know how they got Chumans phone number. I talked to Jackson and told him how to get to the Dojo. About six hours later and a lot of walking Jag and Nichols reach the dojo. It wasnt long after joining the ranks of the Dojo Elite, Hartley

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 8

and Nicholls propositioned NWA member and Vice President of Inoki Sports Management North American Operations David Marquez, about business. At that point there was a meeting with EPWs Manager Rick Sanders that a deal would be made to not only have EPW join the NWA, but also an open boarder for the Western Australians to work for the NWA in SoCal. Which at the time were strictly the Inoki Dojo Shows and later the Alternative Wrestling Show would join the NWA. A lot of the action from 2006 was filmed for internet only release, soon other Australians would join the Inoki Dojo and the NWA Pro Wrestling Family. The duo of Jackson and Nichols would return to Western Australia at the end of May 2006, however Nichols would return in June and would bring with him Bobby Jo Marshall, Ferguson Psychofett Block but would return home shortly after. Then in November in 2006, AZ Vegara, Chris Vice would all join the Dojo with the returning Marshall, and the NWA would extend its influence to Empire Wrestling Federation and High Risk Wrestling. The initial relationship would bring a total of six Western Australians who would compete regularly for the Inoki Dojo, Alternative Wrestling Show, and the Empire Wrestling Federation. 2007 would start off with another influx of Perth wrestlers. Vegara and Marshall made their debuts for the NWA Wrestling Showcase. Marshall would also venture to NWA Pro Wrestling affiliate in Arizona for his first shot outside of the SoCal scene. Cameron Wallis would soon make his SoCal debut along with South Australian and EPW Wrestler Damian Slater both wrestling in AWS. Both Marshall and Wallis would appear on the NWA Fiesta Lucha DVD from Las Vegas, NV. Damian Slater would appear during the NWA Wrestling Summit Tour. Nichols would return to the states spending time in Arizona and SoCal and would later become the first Western Australian to win a championship belt in the States when he pinned Karl Anderson to win the EWF American Championship. Over the next two years the talent trade would continue. SoCal Native, Jarek Matthews joined the EPW crew. And former EPW Heavyweight Champion, Bobby Marshall won the Mach One Wrestling title, becoming the second EPW Wrestler to hold championship gold while in the states. As of now, no SoCal Championships have traveled to Western Australia, however the NWA Australian Championship was defended in SoCal when Jayson Cooper of NWA Pro Australia defeated fellow South Australian, Damian Slater at a SoCal Pro Wrestling Show. Three years have past since the faithful day that brought Nichols and Hartley to the States and Australians continue to come to Southern California. The list of Western Australians wrestlers to venture to the states has grown to include Shane Haste, Alex Kingston, Dan Moore, Marcius Pitsonopolous, Kiel Steria, and Barry Schmidt. EPW talent would work for all of the NWA Affiliate wrestling promotions in Southern California (SoCal Pro Wrestling, Mach 1 Wrestling, Alternative Wrestling Show, and Empire Wrestling Federation. But they didnt just stop their, the Australians would work for New Wave Pro Wrestling, MWF Lucha Libre, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. The Western Australians have benefited from the ample opportunities states side and are able to learn different styles to bring back to Perth. SoCal benefits by having a dynamic influx of talent bring something a little different to the scene. So the next time you think of wrestling over here in the States, think of all the Australians whove impacted the SoCal Wrestling Scene and made it better. Because SoCal Fans have certainly come to appreciate the import of Western Australian wrestlers and I no longer think of Outback Jack or Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport.. WA Talent who have wrestled Overseas Jamie Jurah (Canada/USA, 2005) Chris Vice (USA, 2006-2009) Mikey Nicholls (USA/Japan, 2005-2009) Drake Wallace (USA, 2007) Davis Storm (USA, 2006) Garry Schmidt (Canada, 2008) Bobby Marshall (USA, 2006-2010) Jarrad Slate (Canada, 2008) Ferguson Block (USA, 2006) The Shark (Canada/USA, 2008) AZ Vegara (USA, 2006-2007) Marcus Pitt (USA, 2008-2009)

New Horizon Pro Wrestlings Mana, The Polynesian Warrior, brings Westside Pro Wrestling newsletter a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts on the current scene or talks with superstar friends from his past in the United States. ECW After a long time watching and admiring some of the memories that have occurred at The Alhambra Arena, I am saddened to hear one of the true revolutions of Pro Wrestling is finally laid to rest. Alhambra as most of you would know is a little Bingo Hall in South Philadelphia which I have worked in so many times. The aura that those past memories created where enough for anyone including me to say when I first worked there Wow I worked in this Arena, this is an honour. By now you may know that I am referring to ECW Arena, although ECW hasnt been in the building in about five years I hear that ECW has been officially terminated from Network Television. Even though by far it was not the beloved version I loved from nine years ago. When I first walked into the ECW Arena as a student at the Wild Samoan Training Centre it was for Jersey All Pro Wrestling in 2001. The fighters on that card to this day were awesome including Photo: Mana Lightning Mike Quackenbush, Lo-Ki, Homicide, Crazy Ivan, Trent Acid, Amazing Red, Los Maximos and Ric Blade among a lot of other Indy Legends. The match I was

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 10

there for was Da Hit Squad vs. The Moondogs 2000, a member of the Dogs was one of my trainers Molsonn. From the carnage that occurred in that match I made it one of my career goals to wrestle in ECW Arena. Let me say when you walk in there as a worker thats invited to wrestle there, you can feel it. You are immediately overwhelmed with the want to give all you can to leave your mark and say I was there - BELIEVE ME they are hard as hell to please. ECW set a standard in there that the old saying - Often simulated never duplicated - that no one no matter how hard they try will match it. To be honest with you because of a traffic incident in Philadelphia I was actually cut from my very first fight card I was invited to in ECW Arena. It was a World One card and it was an awesome one with the likes of CM Punk, Homicide, Lo-Ki, Spanky, Matt Striker, Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, Jerry Lynn, CW Anderson, Chris Hamrick, SATs, Ikuto Hidaka, Masato Tanaka, Justin Credible and a lot of other names. I worked with World One the night in Pottstown PA, I was late my first booking in the arena was deservedly taken from me for being late. I was gutted but totally understood . Corino had told me that I will get other chances and the booker for Zero One in Japan interested in me so it was not all negative.

Photo: Mana

I finally got my chance to wrestle in the ECW Arena on a dream card that was pretty much a TNA Tryout. When the curtain jerker is Christopher Daniels vs. Jay Lethal you know its a great card. I had my doubts I would get to perform because one of the participants in my match got arrested in the arena before the match occurred. I was booked in a 3 Way Deathmatch and even with my calls of Im not really a Hardcore Wrestler I was put in it. The match was supposed to be Mana vs. Ian Rotten vs. New Jack - It ended up being Ian and Amy Lee vs. Mana and Mickey Knuckles so you can guess who got arrested. Now being in that arena against one of the deadliest ECW Alumni in Ian Rotten actually made it easier to perform. Philly had seen me fight a lot but never in the Arena. As per usual I was hurt but I can tell you the buzz you get from climbing up onto the ring that is the foundation for the entranceway and stand behind the huge Titan Tron / Curtain set up is to hard to describe. You become Pain Free It is humbling, it makes you feel lonely to hear that crowd, you get nervous to see how they will react and in my case I was eager to basically say F%$k You because I wanted to hit them with hatred because I was preparing for the worst. This was for nothing because they were happy to see me there. I still got a really good reaction with Mickey considering that I was in there with an ECW Legend. I was reassured when they actually chanted my name I have heard so many get chewed up and spat out by these fans, to the point of crying - my friend Nikki Roxx was devastated after a match in CZW with Mercedes Martinez. She let nerves and fan reactions get to her and her talent failed her quickly followed by the Hardcore faithful slaughtering her to tears. They dont care where youve worked or what youve done The Arena is where you know you either got respect or you dont PERIOD. If they start chanting Who The F%$k are you !!! you have about ten minutes to show them or else in three years time when you go Photo: Mana back youll get that same chant. If you let the You F%$ked Up Chants get to you and the Philly fans see it? You might as well go home to your Mom. I have always been thankful for the reception that I got in Philly and the Arena, The fans there know there stuff and if they have bothered to look you up then youve done something right. They make you want to do things for them and put yourself in danger to gain there respect. You hit harder and feel less in this sacred place and you are gratified by performing in the holy grail of Wrestling Halls.

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 11

In all the places and feds I have worked for in the decade I been doing this, ECW Arena is by far the best when youre lucky enough to be in it when its full to capacity. If they hate you they HATE you but if youre lucky enough to be admired or at least a little bit respected by them then they are fans for life. I still get messages from some of those fans wondering when I will go back. That is the most humbling for me. My last match in America was at ECW Arena for Combat Zone Wrestling - chants of Thank You Mana, Manas Gonna Kill you and Please come back nearly bought me to tears. The reason being I never told anybody I was in fact leaving America the following Tuesday, only I knew but in a way I guess they did too. This week is the final week of ECW on WWE Television and although I admire Ezekiel Jackson, for him to be the final holder of that title is a let down. Even though Jackson is from the famed Brooklyn Doghouse, who I always had respect for their students. The lineage of that belt with Tommy Dreamer, Shane Douglas, Rhyno, Sabu, Sandman and Taz - Ezekiel Jackson??? Sorry a bit of a let down but congrats to him. ECW thanks for everything you have done, Paul Heyman you are a genius. The people that have worked with ECW helped with federations such as Major League Wrestling, Dragon Gate USA and most prominent Ring of Honour. Although you died about eight or so years ago you left a lot of vintage stuff that is copied by many even today. Your fans were the best and continue to await for you but now know its pretty much time to move on. RIP Extreme Championship Wrestling

Logo property of the National Wrestling Alliance David Marquez is a member of the NWA Board of Directors, the promoter of NWA Pro and one of the people instrumental in the Explosive Pro Wrestling affiliation with the National Wrestling Alliance. Westside Pro Wrestling's Tez Himself was lucky enough to get the opportunity to speak to the very busy NWA Pro promoter. WPW: You got your start in the wrestling business in the late 1980's, how did you initially get involved? MARQUEZ: I started out like most people, being a jack of all trades. First taking jackets, then graduated to taking photographs and such. Things really started to fly for me in the mid 1990s when I moved to Missouri and started World Legion Wrestling with Gordon Solie and Harley Race. Its pretty much been full steam since then. WPW: The NWA had been a major part of Australian Wrestling in the 1970's and early 1980's, but with the decline of World Championship Wrestling, had no affiliate. This changed in 2005 with the affiliation with EPW. Photo: Luckmedia Can you tell us how this came about and how do you think the affiliation has gone after nearly five years? MARQUEZ: Hartley Jackson and Mikey Nicholls came to stay with us at the LA Dojo. They told me about EPW and Davis Storm came right after them. During their time training, we talked about

many different possibilities and in those three months we created the relationships in both Perth and Adelaide. WPW: Mikey Nicholls, Bobby Marshall and Shane Haste seem to have had the biggest success of the Australian talent that have visited SoCal since 2005. There have been title runs (Nicholls and Marshall) and shots at the NWA World Title (Haste). Do you think any Australian talent has a shot at a BOD (Board of Directors) Title reign in the future? MARQUEZ: Id say all of those guys you have mentioned, Id even throw in Damian Slater. Im very impressed with the ability of everyone Ive seen from Oz. If I had to pick oneitll be a toss up between Haste and Marshall. WPW: The 2007 NWA Australian Tour was a good time to be a WA wrestling fan, getting to see the likes of Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Rocky Romero, Sean Waltman and The Real American Heroes compete against EPW talent, who some of us had been following since their early years. Is there any update on a DVD release of the shows and on a personal note, how did you find your first experience of Australia? MARQUEZ: Weve planned on adding the tour to our Reclaiming the Glory DVD, but that has been put on hold by Big Vision due to the decline of DVD sales world wide. They are looking at other means of distribution for us as I answer these questions. And as for my time down thereI really enjoyed myself. I met some of the most wonderful people I think I will ever meet; I ate meat pies and drank a lot of ice coffee (your version of ice coffee is very different from ours). That tour will not be my last one to your country. WPW: The NWA Australian National Championship has become stuck in Adelaide, when it was created to be a title defended around the country. The title was last defended outside of South Australia in November 2008, and hasn't been seen in Perth since April 2008. Now with EPW Adelaide's name change to NWA Pro, it seems increasingly unlikely this will change any time soon and Perth fans are disappointed with this situation. Does NWA have authority on the title or is it all in the hands of NWA Pro Adelaide? MARQUEZ: Yes the NWA does have authority, and the management there knows whats best for their promotions. Im sure when the time is right, that green beauty will pop up in Perth again. WPW: The airing of the NWA on Fire program beginning in January is the first time NWA product has been shown on Australian National TV since World Championship Wrestling in the late 1970's. How did the deal come about? MARQUEZ: That was secured by a third party distributor that licensed our footage and re-packaged it from existing programs. I have no idea really, what each hour consists of. WPW: Does the NWA have any plans regarding Photo: National Wrestling Alliance Australia in the near future? MARQUEZ: Well yes. Its my hope to grow the NWA brand there. The management teams there are looking into expanding the brand, but currently there is no rush. WPW: What does the NWA have in store for 2010 on the American scene? MARQUEZ: Well, we hope to keep developing new talent. Return to television in a different way, especially the format and model. And to keep up what we are doing and that is producing hundreds if not thousands of NWA sanctioned events world wide. WPW: Thank you for taking the time to speak to Westside Pro Wrestling, Mr. Marquez. Check out David Marquez's blog Some Assembly Required at www.nwawrestling.com
