EDITORIAL
WA got a slight taste of TNA, after the earlier disappointing announcement of the cancellation of the Maximum Impact! tour, with Ravens appearance at AAWs New Beginnings card which kicked off the wrestling year on January 15. The show had standing room only, in a good start to the new year for the WA scene. EPW, also had their first show for the year with an exhibition show at Malaga Markets which had decent crowds for all three sessions. In WPW news we have reached some more milestones in the past month including reaching our six month anniversary and reaching 100+ fans on Facebook, as well as starting a forum and becoming affiliated with US website, The Alliance. Thank you, once again to those who support us and Always support your local product! Tez

Raven was originally booked to take on Shark in a Hardcore Match, but when he met www.allactionwrestling.com.au Angel and Jaxx, he decided not to join them and let them know just what he thought of them during an in-ring promo. Raven and Jaxx proceeded to beat down Raven, before The Shark came out to save him, brandishing a chair. Raven did a meet and greet before the show, but had to leave straight after his match due to a scheduled flight to Sydney before heading back to the US for TNAs Genesis pay per view. NERO RETAINS Superstar David Nero retained the AAW Championship in his first Photo: All Action Wrestling defense of the title against the returning Jet West in the Main Event of New Beginnings. STORMING START TO THE YEAR Davis Storm has made a great start to 2010 with three wins at the Malaga Markets exhibition show. The Ironman teamed with Jay Taylor to take care of the Blackest Hour duo of EPW Champion, Richter and Adrien Priest, a singles match victory of Devlin Reeves and in a Six Man Elimination Tag Match with EPW Hardcore Shield Champion, Gavin www.epwperth.com McGavin and Adam Banks against the Schmidts and James Edwards. Storm now has his sights on the big two out of three falls match against South Australias Damian Slater at Rise or Fall on February 6. The long awaited match came about due to the ending of the Invitational Final when Storm pinned Tyler Jacobs while Slater had JT tapping out to a STF. The EPW Board of Directors have declared the winner will become EPW Invitational Champion and #1 contender for the EPW Championship. During an interview with WPW in October, Storm was asked Which Australian talent would you like to face off with in the future? The Ironman replied I dont keep an eye on Australian talent like I used to but the only name that leaps out at me is Damian Slater. Hes been wrestling here in EPW for almost five years and we still havent had the chance to have a one on one match. To me, he is the barometer for Australian wrestling today. Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling HASTE & NICHOLLS NEW CHALLENGE Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls make their second defense of the EPW Tag Team Championships against Jonny Wimbledon and the recently returned from the US, Chris Vice at Rise or Fall. Wimbledon and Vice became #1 contenders for the titles at Re-Awakening 8 defeating Alex Kingston/Adam Banks, Dan Moore/ Chase Griffin and The Schmidt Brothers in a Four Way Match. Haste and Nicholls first defense of the titles was a hard fought encounter against Davis Storm and Jimmy Payne at Decembers Kristmas Kaos 2. NHPW RETURNS WITH HUGE TOURNAMENT New Horizon Pro Wrestling return to the WA scene in April and May with the Global Conflict tour. A single elimination World Shield Tournament will feature the following international and interstate talent: *Sonjay Dutt (India)

*Tapu (New Zealand) *Colt Cabana (Central North America) *Cannonball Kris Taylor (England) *NC Viper (Aboriginal Australia) *Paul London (West Coast America) *Percy T. (Australia) *Wildcard The tour will be former WWE superstar, Paul Londons first visit to WA since the SmackDown! WrestleMania Revenge tour in April 2005, where he successfully defended his Cruiserweight Championship against Spike Dudley, Funaki and Scotty 2 Hotty. ROH and former TNA star Sonjay Dutt will be making his second NHPW appearance and Colt Cabana will be making his long awaited WA debut which he was scheduled to make at the cancelled Old School Reload tour. MASSIVES FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE! Jake Paragon earned the chance to challenge Mad Mike Massive for the SHWA Championship at Ascension when he outlasted Sean Ravage, Crazy Train, and Percy T. in a fatal four-way match. The match will be the third time the two men have competed against each other, the first time was at the very first SHWA show, Exodus, in December 2008 , in a Triple Threat Match which included Meat. www.shwa.org.au In what will be their first encounter since Massive defeated Paragon at Super Awesome Wrestling Show 5000, in November, to reach the final of the SHWA Championship tournament, the Alpha Omega of Australian Wrestling had the following to say to WPW It's hard not to know the story of Mike Massive and not feel proud of him for his success. His achievements, his story, and his accomplishments have all culminated in him having an undeniable foothold in SHWA history, as the first ever championship holder. Nobody can ever take that away from him. He will always be the first. But I will be the second. I will always honour Mike Massive for his great achievements and his efforts to reach them. But on February 6, I will become champion. On February 6, it's the Alpha Omega's Kingdom Come. The SHWA Champion heard about Paragons words Photo: Eli and replied with the following, Two times we have met, the first ended up being a lack of communication which resulted in neither of us obtaining a victory. The second was a match to decide who would go through to the first ever SHWA Championship Match at Ascension. I won!! Come Feb 6 we will both clash again, this time for the GOLD!!! I respect Jake Paragon a lot and consider him more of a friend than a foe and I feel he has earned his right to be number 1 contender for the SHWA title. Unfortunately for Jake this is where the friendship stops. No one in SHWA will take the title from me. I have single handedly walked through the Muscle Militia to earn my position as SHWA Champ!! Speaking of the Muscle Militia, Jarrad Slate, after costing me the victory in the 20 Man Battle Royal at the AWS Supershow in Adelaide this past Saturday night and 'running off' with my title, better be ready for a MASSIVE world of hurt!!!!! Sorry Paragon you are now just one hurdle I must run THROUGH not over!!!!! TWO DEBUT When Mountains Collide will see the debuts of two SHWA Academy talents in Jimmy Jamal Jenkins and Avalanche. Jenkins has a tough task ahead of him as he takes on Muscle Militia member, The Wraith, while the big man, Avalanche prepares to take on the first year rookie, Sean Ravage. FLASHYS REVENGE? The ongoing fued between Ring Announcer, Flashy Barry Hawkins and WPW 2009 WA Manager of the Year, Ebenizah J. Klaus continues at When Mountains Collide. The two have been feuding since the latter half

of 2009, which resulted in a Hair vs. Hair match at National Bandanna Bash in October and Hawkins losing his hair. The rematch has come about due to a stipulation made before the Three Stages of Hell match between NC Viper and Jarrad Slate at Ascension in December, where if Viper won, Flashy wouldn get another opportunity at Klaus.

With the previous edition of Westside Pro Wrestling having no San Count, I decided I would need to come back ten times better for the next one. So, with that being said, this months 'San Count' will be based around my recent trip to Japan, where I stayed for 20 days, seeing 17 live pro wrestling events. I will talk about my experiences in Japan, the shows I saw and the wrestlers I met. In true fashion of the 'San Count', I will list my top 5 shows from the trip, I would usually go with top 3, but there's certain shows that deserve the recognition of being awesome. 5. Pro Wrestling NOAH 'First Navigation' - January 17th in Yokohama (Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse) This had a 'house show' feel about it, it was a smaller show, with 500 fans, but it was taped for their regular TV show. This event saw the advancement in the annual Global Tag League tournament, plus some other additional match-ups. The reason why this show makes the list is because of the final two matches on the card, which to me, were the definite stand outs of the night, funnily enough it was the gaujins (foreigners) matches. In Global Tag League action, the reformed Kings of Wrestling of Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli took on Kensuke Sasaki and Takeshi Morshima in one of my favourite live matches to date. If there ever was a Japanese breakout match for the Kings', this was it, when this match surfaces on the internet, you gotta check it out. The other match was the main event of the show, as Bison Smith and Keith Walker battled Takashi Sugiura and Shuhei Taniguchi in what was another breakout match, this time for the NOAH newcomer, Human Massacre Keith Walker. 4. Pro Wrestling NOAH 'First Navigation' - January 10th in Nagoya (Zepp Nagoya) Over 1,000 fans packed Zepp Nagoya for what was another 'Super No Vacancy' event for Pro Wrestling NOAH. This show makes the list due it to be being an overall impressive show, with every match being worth to watch. The night was capped off with Takashi Sugiura and Shuhei Taniguchi taking on NJPW regulars Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma in a bloody (literally) Global Tag League encounter. Other matches on this show included Go Shiozaki and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Jun Akiyama and Taiji Ishimori, Takeshi Rikio and Muhammad Yone vs. Naomichi Marufuji and Atsushi Aoki and Kensuke Sasaki, Takeshi Morshima and Kento Miyahara vs. Bison Smith, Keith Walker and Ricky Marvin. 3. Big Japan Pro Wrestling - January 2nd in Tokyo (Korakuen Hall) This was Big Japan's biggest event of the year, the card was stacked, and overall, the event was awesome! Big Japan has earned it's reputation as being a deathmatch fed, but this event only featured one deathmatch, one hardcore match, and the rest had no weapon stipulations whatsoever, but I should add that no fan was let down what Big Japan offered on this night. In the undercard saw a variety of comedy, pure and powerhouse encounters, including many names like Kikutaro, Daisuke Sekimoto, Magnitude Kishiwada, Jaki Numazawa and MASADA. Of course, the main event was the type of match that earned Big Japan its reputation, as an 8man tag deathmatch finished the show. Yuko Miyamoto, Masashi Takeda, Isami Kodaka and Kankuro Hoshino vs. Ryuji Ito, Takashi Sasaki, Shadow WX and Abdullah Kobayashi will be a match I will never forget as it was the most violent, brutal and straight up hardcore match I have ever seen live! These guys added many more scars to the collection they already have on their bodies, and a lot of blood was lost. It was this match that finished a great night, giving BJPW the no.3 spot on this list. 2. Dragon Gate 'Live Gate' - January 15th in Kobe (dB Art Theatre) I had high expectations going into Dragon Gate shows, as watching them on DVD was always a treat. This event, out of the three I went to, was the smallest show in terms of venue and crowd size, but funnily enough, it was the very best. With around 300-400 filling the dance club known as 'dB Art Theatre', Dragon Gate produced one amazing show! Each match, one way or another, made my draw drop as these guys do some unbelievable stuff in a wrestling ring. Top to bottom, it was an incredible event, and one of my favourite live experiences to date. On this night, consistency was no problem for Dragon Gate as the night wrapped up being quite an enjoyable one. 1. New Japan Pro Wrestling 'Wrestle Kingdom IV' - January 4th, 2010 in Tokyo (Tokyo Dome) Now, making no.1 on my list, as expected, was the biggest wrestling event to happen on January 4th, 2010, and in Japan for the year, New Japan's annual Tokyo Dome event, WRESTLE KINGDOM IV! This 4 hour event featured 10 matches, which included New Japan vs. NOAH matches, and the IWGP Jr. Tag, IWGP Tag, IWGP

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 7

Jr., IWGP Heavyweight and GHC Heavyweight titles on the line. These matches included Muhammad Yone vs. Togi Makabe, Naomichi Marufuji vs. Tiger Mask, Takashi Sugiura vs. Hirooki Goto, Go Shiozaki vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yoshihiro Takayama plus many more! This event also featured international talent, in Averno and Ultimo Guerrero from CMLL and Team 3D from TNA. I can't put this show into detail without writing too much, so to sum it up, best wrestling event I have ever been to, mainly based on the experience of being in a crowd of 41,500, but also for the action in the ring. Honourable mention: Osaka Pro Wrestling 'Saturday Night Story' - January 9th in Osaka (Move On Arena) On this trip, I also had the honour and pleasure to meet many wrestlers. Some of these include Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli (even ran into them both in the streets of Tokyo!), Katsuhiko Nakajima, Naomichi Marufiji, GAMMA, Ricky Marvin, many wrestlers from Osaka Pro, and others involved in puroresu. Another great thing about Japanese wrestling, is that the wrestlers are very easy to approach, and are very appreciative of their fans, as their fans have a lot of respect for them for what they do. Also the fact that theres wrestling stores on the streets of Tokyo, makes the place worth a visit. Overall, the trip was well worth the expense and effort, and I'll definitely be back in the near future. Well, this wraps up this edition of The San Count, recapping my trip to Japan, and I'm looking forward to writing for the WPW readers next time!

HES GANGSTA!
Team Allstar coach and hip-hop star, Big Vin Penhero talks with the Original Team Allstar benchwarmers, Tez, Camilla, Dave and KB. TEZ 4: Growing up, who were the wrestlers the made an influence on you? BIG VIN: Number one would have to be Hulk Hogan. The man is a legend, I can honestly say that he was the single inspiration of getting into the business. I also like/d Andre the Giant, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Randy Savage. As you can tell I'm really into any wrestling from the eighties. TEZ 4: You made your EPW debut in early 2007 as Brad Wests bodyguard. Had you been training for long when Brad asked you to help him in his feud with Jack Burbank? BIG VIN: Look my training has been an on going process , I've played competitive sports my whole life which included Rugby league, Australian Rules Football and Basketball. Then one day my cousin told me about a local wrestling fed that had started, I went down check out a show and that was it I was hooked. I trained at the Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling EPW Dynamite Factory and then suffered a major injury (playing basketball) that put me out of action and stopped me playing any competitive sport for a number of years. Then after a lot of soul searching, rehab and a chance meeting with Brad West, Big Vin was unleashed on EPW. TEZ 4 & KB 69: Im Gangsta and Call Tha Cops seemed to catch on with the fans. Are there any plans for an EP or full length CD to drop? Where do you ultimately want to take your rap career? BIG VIN: After the massive success of the two singles, I have collaborated with two other talented individuals and have been in the studio laying down tracks for a full length CD, which will be released early 2010. Unfortunately that all I can say about this at this time. KB 69: Who were/are your musical influences? BIG VIN: Biggest Influences are Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg. I'm a huge fan of anything from Death Row Records also getting an honourable mention is Ice Cube, Tupac, NWA, Run DMC and Notorious BIG.

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 8

TEZ 4: Are you hoping to wrestle more in the future or are you mainly happy to stay in the Manager/ Coach role, with the occasional in ring appearance? BIG VIN: As much as I love stepping into the ring and dishing out the Bull Doggy Dogg, I'm happy with my Manager/Coach role but in saying that , I will step in to ring when ever Team Allstar needs me but I think I'm best utilised on the outside of the ring, scouting the opposition and designing plays to help the team get the win. SYMBA 32: Who or what are Team Allstar looking for in their number 1 Draft pick for 2010? BIG VIN: I Think it's quite obvious in what we, I mean I would look for in a number 1 Draft pick, Just take a look at Sebastian Sander and The Don Michael Morleone. They both possess power, strength , speed, aggressiveness , The drive to be number 1 and the willingness to do what ever it takes to win and I mean whatever it takes. CAM 27 & KB 69: In Brad West's absence, do you feel a responsibility as the senior ranking member of the team to step up and take the reigns as the head coach of Team All*Star? BIG VIN: Of course I do, I don't just feel responsibility I also feel very honoured, Brad West is one of the greatest wrestling minds and most distinguished wrestler's EPW has ever seen. I appreciate Brad taking me under his wing and teaching me the ins and outs of the wrestling business. Now it's my turn to repay him by putting into practice all the lessons I learnt by observing the great Man. Brad West is Brad West and Vin Penhero is Vin Penhero so there may be a slight differing in our coaching styles but the goal is the same to make Team Allstar The dominant force in EPW and Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling Australian Wrestling. TEZ 4: The EPW crowd finally has started giving Team Allstar some love at Kristmas Kaos. It sure has taken them long enough to catch on to the hottest stable in EPW. BIG VIN: Yo yo hold on there, I'm not sure if it's love the crowd is giving us, I think it could me be more the case of The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend. The darkest clouds you could imagine are forming over EPW as we speak, I think the EPW fans have realised this. The Blackest Hour have shown that they are more than a bunch of black finger nail painting, mascara wearing goths. I take my hat off to them, they Punked Team Allstar, I did my homework for that match but they pulled all the strings and made us fight their fight. I tell you right now, The Blackest Hour are in Team Allstar gun sights, we could have been mutually beneficial to each other but no, they had to pull a stunt like that (what they did at KK2). We might be out numbered, the odds might be against us but will not back down and we still have a few dirty tricks left on the White Board. TEZ 4: What does Big Vin Penhero want to achieve in the future? BIG VIN: Bling bling baby and I'm not talking about a 24 carrot neck chain like I wear around my neck. I want this to be the golden year for Team Allstar, I want to help put gold around the waists of Sebastian Sander and The Don Michel Morleone and we're aiming high, I want Team Allstar to possess the EPW Championship and the Tag Team championship simultaneously. TEZ 4: Thanks for chillin with Westside Pro Wrestling, Vin BIG VIN: The pleasure was all yours.

SCHMIDT ADVICE SCHMIDT ADVICE

Explosive Pro Wrestlings Gorgeous Garry and Bruiser Barry are here to give Westside Pro Wrestling readers advice worth a Schmidt! Kane asks: Barry, you say you wrestle crocodiles and kangaroos and all the rest of it, is there any proof of this? Bruiser Barry: Kane, I have not only wrestled crocodiles and kangaroos, I've gone bare knuckles with a black bear, I've used Sambo on a Siberian tiger and had to pint glass an alligator upside the head. All of these incredible feats are true and I wear the furs of a jaguar I outran and ate raw to the ring with me to scare our opponents and weak children. So Kane the next time you want to ask if the stories about me are true, ask me at a show so I can towel you across the face. Kane also asks: Garry, you failed to win both the Rising Star Cup and the EPW Hardcore Shield in the latter half of 2009. It shows to me and the fans you choke in big match situations, does this happen when it comes to the ladies outside of the ring as well? Gorgeous Garry: Kane...I am by no means...A CHOKER! I have been winning the hearts of many, Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling many fans through every breathtaking move I have made in 2009. It is true I did not win the Rising Star Cup and Hardcore Shield but truth be known, I was weak as I had caught a rare fever known as "ungorgeousitises" obviously something you have never caught as it only happens to ones that are graced with such an elegant glow as I have. As for the ladies, the only problem I have with ladies is there are too many fuglies out there that think they are worthy of Gorgeous Garry. Kane...Im not here to justify your status as a worthless, geek who still believes that fat chicks are quite the catch since everything is bigger and the association with whales is fascinating...you are on your own Kane...the Gorgeous One has just enlightened you all...You are all welcome!

***** WARRIORS WORDS

New Horizon Pro Wrestlings Mana, The Polynesian Warrior, brings Westside Pro Wrestling newsletter a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts on the current scene or talks with superstar friends from his past in the United States. Interview with Lightning For this article I thought I would get in touch with one of the most amazing wrestlers I have ever had the opportunity to be in the ring with. Some of the stuff he pulls out can be called nothing but amazing. If you dont believe me look him up on you tube for sure and youll see what I mean. His name is Lightning Mike Quackenbush and he is the founder of CHIKARA pro wrestling. I first studied Mike Quackenbush matches against Reckless Youth who back then stupefied me just as to how the hell they pulled a lot of there moves off so damn quick and so crisp. These days Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero do this with Mike and they are giants. Photo: World-1/Mana Quack has been one of the premier wrestlers on the circuit for over ten years now as well as publishing his own books. He is one of the forefathers to a style that can only be described as Lucha / Japanese and X Division all combined into one. I am proud to put together this interview with one of my good friends and one of the best cruisers in the American Independent scene as well as the world - Lightning Mike Quackenbush. How did the name "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush come to be? It was really something pushed on me in the mid-90's, to try and become more marketable. At the time, I was wrestling as M. Quackenbush. The promoter I was working for at the time felt it needed something more, so I added "Lightning" in tribute to Jushin "Thunder" Liger, who inspired me. You and the wrestlers/students of CHIKARA received training from Jorge "Skayde" Rivera, how do you think his influence has improved your abilities?

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 10

He opened up a whole new world of wrestling for me. He's in his mid-40's now, and he is more active and more creative than guys half his age. You have wrestled in many top U.S indy promotions, as well as overseas in Europe and Japan, which experiences have been the most memorable in your career thus far? For different reasons, wrestling in Mexico, Germany, and Japan are very memorable experiences. My first match in Mexico, I was given a death threat from a fan. Which is kind of awesome, if you think about it. In Europe, the fans have a great respect for my style, and so I always feel well-appreciated when I perform for them. In Japan, because I had longed to go there, and worked for Photo: Bleacher Report years with that as my goal, I found it especially satisfying just to climb in the ring, and hear the announcer call my name in Japanese. What was it like to square off with someone you had idolised, British pro wrestling legend, Johnny Saint? Humbling, of course. He's such a gentleman, in the ring and out. At times, it was almost like I was not in the match, but watching it on TV. Prior to the day we wrestled, the only way I had even seen him was on TV. Who is on the list of people you'd like to lock up with one day? Christopher Daniels is always on that list. I would love to have a singles match with him. I think it would be a lot of fun to wrestle Ultimo Guerrero, or Averno from CMLL as well. You've held the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship for over two years, who in the NWA would you like to defend it against? Anyone. Bring 'em on. I'd love to be out there defending that title every month, if they could line up the challengers for me. In the past couple of years, you have taken CHIKARA to many Photo: Online World of Wrestling different states in America, as well as Germany and Japan, where else do you see CHIKARA in the near future? It would be great to play Mexico, since that is where our stylistic roots are, but really, those kinds of things represent great risk. Is there a possibility of Mike Quackenbush coming to Western Australia in the foreseeable future? There is talk of a trip to Perth, I am pleased to report. I would love to play Australia before I hang up the boots. The birthplace of tag team wrestling! It would be a lot of fun. Any last words? Please check us out online, we have a free weekly podcast you can watch on iTunes under the name "CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go". Thanks for your time hope you check out some of Mikes matches they are amazing and he is sure to be hitting our shores in 2010. In my next article I will be delving into one of the most Hardcore brains in wrestling history. Stay tuned.
