Closed User Group (CUG)

1 Denition
Individual lines can be grouped together with the feature Closed User Group (CUG). As a rule, subscribers in a closed user group are subject to certain traffic restrictions. This means that they can communicate with each other, but communication with subscribers outside of the closed user group is only possible with the appropriate authorization.

Use and effect Calling subscriber CUG use CUG effect Interactions For interaction with other features, see Feature Interactions. Standards The feature is based on the following standard: ETS 300 138. X X Called subscriber X X

2 Mode of operation
For the feature Closed User Group (CUG) the provider defines two-digit selection indexes (CUG indexes) for each individual subscriber in order to differentiate between the various CUGs. The calling subscriber selects the desired CUG by entering the CUG index at call setup. The indexes can vary from subscriber to subscriber for the same CUG. The indexes do not have a network-specific meaning (e.g. to identify the CUG in the network) they simply serve to distinguish between CUGs. Upon subscriber request or for administrative reasons, the provider can cancel the service authorizations and the validity of the CUG index. For a successful CUG connection, the CUG feature must be set up on both the calling and called sides. Subscription options Each subscriber can be a member of one or more CUGs. Members of a CUG can belong to one or more communication networks (e.g. ISDN, PSTN). CUG members generally cannot communicate with subscribers outside the CUG. The CUG feature can nonetheless be offered with various subscription options that define additional traffic authorizations or restrictions. The following options are available: only CUG calls (CUG) preferential CUG (PCUG) CUG with incoming access (IA) CUG with explicit outgoing access (EOA) (only available to ISDN subscribers) incoming calls barred within CUG (ICB) outgoing calls barred within CUG (OCB) The options 'incoming calls barred within CUG' and 'outgoing calls barred within CUG' can be individually administered for each CUG of a directory number. Preferential CUGs and traffic authorizations to the public network (IA and EOA) can either be commonly administered for the directory number or individually for each service of a directory number. Options that are administered per service are valid for every CUG of a service.

Unless they are administered service-specifically, options that are administered per directory number are valid for every service of a directory number. CUG calls (CUG) Only calls made to and from other CUG members are possible. Preferential CUG (PCUG) If an ISDN subscriber makes especially frequent use of a certain CUG when utilizing one of his or her services, the CUG can be defined as a preferential CUG (for that particular service). Once a CUG is defined as a preferential CUG, the subscriber does not have to explicitly request it during the dialing procedure (i.e. with the relevant CUG index). Unnecessary dialing procedures are consequently avoided. Since the PCUG option is administered per service, the subscriber may have a different preferential CUG for each service. The selection of the preferential CUG is managed by the administration. This is also the case for ISDN subscribers who are members of just one CUG. CUG with incoming access (IA) In addition to CUG calls, the subscriber can also receive normal (non-CUG) calls from subscribers outside the CUG as well as from subscribers from other CUGs who have outgoing access (EOA). Explicit outgoing access (EOA) An ISDN subscriber with a preferential CUG must request explicit outgoing access if he or she wishes to place a normal (non-CUG) call. Without this request, the call will be placed to the preferential CUG. By requesting explicit outgoing access, the CUG authorization is canceled for that particular call. The administration can also simultaneously grant authorization for incoming access and explicit outgoing access to an ISDN subscriber. Incoming calls barred within CUG (ICB) Subscribers with the restriction 'incoming calls barred within CUG' are unable to receive calls from other CUG members. Outgoing calls barred within CUG (OCB) Subscribers with the restriction 'outgoing calls barred within CUG' are unable to call other CUG members. Having options ICB and OCB at the same time would be pointless. They mutually exclude one another as stated in the ETSI guidelines. They are individually administered for each CUG. Interplay between preferential CUGs and explicit outgoing access for ISDN subscribers If an ISDN subscriber wishes to set up a normal (non-CUG) call, he or she must have the authorization for explicit outgoing access. The network then handles a call requested with this option as a normal (non-CUG) call. If an ISDN subscriber with the preferential CUG option but without explicit outgoing access sets up a call without a special CUG index, the preferential CUG will be requested.

If a subscriber with a preferential CUG and explicit outgoing access sets up a call without a special CUG index, the network ignores the EOA information and transmits the call as a CUG call while using the preferential CUG information. Capacity Dependent on the size of the database the exchange will be equipped to handle up to 100% of the subscribers with the Closed User Group feature. A subscriber can be a member of up to 100 CUGs.

3 Subscriber controlled input

Subscriber controlled input is not possible for this feature.

4 Call charge registration

Call charge registration is possible with: Automatic Message Accounting with Individual Call Charge Registration Pulse Metering Message Detail Recording (MDR) for GeoCENTREX Flat rate Automatic Message Accounting with Individual Call Charge Registration (AMA) and pulse metering can be combined. One or more call charge pulses can be generated for pulse metering. Charges for feature input and feature usage The charges for operator inputs, successful subscriber controlled input and feature usage are assigned to the subscriber. The following call charge registration is possible: Facility input by operator (FAIO) Facility input by subscriber (FAIS) Facility usage (FAU) Action Activate Deactivate Enter data Delete data Assign authorization Remove authorization Assign authorization to modify Remove authorization to modify Status request, data request Use FAIO --------X X --------FAIS --------------------FAU ---------------------

5 Administration
The operator can perform all administration functions on the NetManager by means of user-friendly applications or MML commands. Feature authorization The network operator assigns authorization for the feature when requested by the subscriber. For ISDN subscribers, features authorization is service-specific. Subscriber access types The feature can be used with the following types of subscriber access: Type Subscriber Analog Main station Basic access PBX PBX with BA and/or PA PBX line PBX line with Direct Dialing In (DDI) PBX line, connected like a subscriber Coinbox Emergency call station MLHG line Basic attendant console MAC attendant console Call charge registration For more information, please refer to OMN:EXCH-TA.
