DR. A.P.J.

ABDUL KALAMS VISION 2020

When our former President Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam visits Hyderabad to address the students of one school, one small girl came to take autograph of him. At that time, he asked her what your dream is. She replied that she want to live in a developed India. So from this small conversation only we come to know that India is not a developed country, it is a developing country. It will be shocking but its true that Dr. Abdul Kalam has written a book INDIA 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium before his tenure as the President. In this book he has written about the weakness and the strength of India, as a nation and offers a vision of how India can emerge as one of the strongest economic power by 2020. This book is dedicated to that young girl whom Dr. Kalam met. Transformation of nation to a developed country is based on mainly five areas. First of them is Agriculture and Food Processing, with the target of generating 400 million tonnes of food grains with reduced land, water and workforce from the present 200 million tonnes. New technology needed in agriculture area from seeds to cultivation of grain, food process and marketing. This entire chain will enable employment particularly in rural areas in a big way. The second area where development is needed is in Infrastructure. India is aspiring to build hundred million homes within next ten

years. We are in the process of developing ports, railway system and airports. The third area is the most important area for the development of the nation. It is the education and the healthcare. There is a need to increase the literacy level in the country and also the health for all. The number of people who are educated is increasing year by year. It is great that the medical field is developed so much. The other areas where development is needed are Information and Communication Technology and Industries. One of the main visions of Dr. Kalam is to lift the economic conditions of over 225 million people. He said if we have to uplift the 225 million people living below poverty and provide improved quality of life, we have to ensure that the agriculture sector grows at least 4% per annnum. He said in India, the development of a rural sector is very important. So it will be great if we achieve success in all these fields. But I can say that it is not easy to visualize the India in 2020 as the developed country because of what our Govt. is doing today. Now our Govt. promises us that India will be a developed country by 2020. If the cases of corruption goes on like this only. I dont think that Dr. Kalams vision will be completed ever. If we want to live in a developed country than it is our own duty to make our country developed. Its our duty to complete the vision 2020 of Dr. Kalam. Go ahead and let show the world what we can do, if we are together.
