Rules
1) The quiz consists of twenty questions spread over three pages, each carrying 1 mark. Please check if you have all the questions printed. If not, please bring this to the notice of the invigilators as soon as the prelims begin. 2) No negative marks will be awarded for wrong answers. No marks will be awarded for questions left unanswered. However, humorous answers are appreciated 3) It is advised that all electronic equipment such as cell phones, tablets, magic wands, and various other gadgets that might be used as unfair means to search for answers, are switched off and preferably, deposited at the desk at the venue. Any team found to be engaging in unfair means will be immediately disqualified. Were seriously, you guys. In Gateway 2011, a team was disqualified for searching for answers via web on their cell phones. Remember Gateway Quiz Prelims are low scoring affairs and even very low scores (like 6) might be enough to get you qualified. 4) Five teams with the highest score in the preliminary round will advance to the onstage final round. 5) There are five questions in the quiz that are marked with an asterisk (*) and are known as tie-breaker questions. In the event of a tie (that is, two or more teams with same score), the team(s) which answer the most number of such questions correctly will qualify for the on-stage finals. In case the tie is still not resolved, the team(s) will be recalled to answer a set of five more questions, and the team(s) with the higher score(s) will qualify. In the event that the tie is still not resolved, the younger team(s) will qualify. In case the tie is still not resolved, the qualifying team(s) shall be decided by drawing lots in presence of the teams. 7) If you have any doubts regarding any questions, please raise your hand. An invigilator will be there to assist you. If you request additional hints for a question, it shall be given to all the teams, provided a consensus is reached that no one has answered the question. If even one team has answered the question correctly, no hints shall be given to any team. If you feel that you have answered a question correctly, and other teams are requesting hints for it, please show the answer to the invigilator. If the answer is correct, no hints shall be given to any team. If it is not, the hint shall be provided to all teams, and your answer for the question will not be voided.
