KING

ADVENT RECONCILIATION SERVICE Monday, December 17, 7:00pm

The Sacrament of Reconciliation celebrates the great gift of Gods mercy. Sometimes it seems that we concentrate too much on our own sins and not enough on Gods mercy. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a wonderful way to strengthen our journey with the Lord. Our sins, more than anything else, weigh us down. The Sacrament of Reconciliation can be a great help as we journey together without the guilt and sin that can be very heavy to carry. There will be 8 priests available for confession.

Short Examination of Conscience

When was my last good confession? Did I receive Communion or other sacraments while in the state of mortal sin? Did I intentionally fail to confess some mortal sin in my previous confession? Did I willfully and seriously doubt my faith or put myself in danger of losing it by reading literature hostile to Catholic teachings or by getting involved with non-Catholic sects? Did I engage in superstitious activities: palm reading, fortune telling? Did I take the name of God in vain? Did I curse or take a false oath? Did I use bad language? Did I miss Mass on a Sunday or a holy day of obligation through my own fault, without any serious reason? Did I fast and abstain on the prescribed days? Did I disobey my parents or lawful superiors in important matters? Was I selfish in how I treated others especially my spouse, my brothers and sisters, my relatives, or my friends? Did I hatefully quarrel with anyone, or desire revenge? Did I refuse to forgive? Did I cause physical injury or even death? Did I get drunk? Did I take illicit drugs? Did I consent to, advise, or actively take part in an abortion? Did I willfully look at indecent pictures or watch immoral movies? Did I read immora1 books or magazines? Did I engage in impure jokes or conversations? Did I willfully entertain impure thoughts or feelings? Did I commit impure acts, alone or with others? Did I take contraceptive or abortifacient pills, or use other artificial means in order to prevent conception? Did I steal or damage another's property? How much? Have I made reparation for the damages done? Have I been honest in my business relations? Did I tell lies? Did I sin by slander? By detraction - telling unknown grave faults of others without necessity? Did I judge others rashly in serious matters? Have I tried to make restitution for any damage of reputation that I have caused? If you remember other serious sins besides those indicated here, include them also in your Confession.

When excitement builds, as it certainly does for children at Christmastime, there is often a temptation to jump right into the event without having properly prepared for it. We do this too often. Such things take away from the joy of the actual feast. We still have time to properly prepare our souls and our hearts for the true meaning of Christmas.

Dec. 21st will begin in the Church will the scripture story of how the birth of Christ came about. There will be Christmas Carols, live animals, crafts, cookies and more! This is a beautiful evening for families of all ages.

7:00 p.m. Service - 8:30 p.m. Dessert Potluck

Advent means "coming."

When the year 1000 was about to dawn, people fled to mountains, expecting the return of Christ. When 2000 came, people feared major computer -- and hence societal -- breakdowns. Neither happened. Yet both moments in history remind us of something deeper, the lesson of Advent. Advent means "coming." The Lord wants us to anticipate and prepare for His coming, not as something that we hinge on a particular date or identify with a particular calamity, but as an ordinary aspect of our daily Christian living. On the one hand, we know He is coming; on the other, we don't know when. Yet every moment is an opportunity to make that coming more central to our lives. Lord, may we welcome you daily in your Word, your Sacraments, and in all our brothers and sisters!

Catechism Corner
The Word became flesh to be our model of holiness: Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me. I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. On the mountain of the Transfiguration, the Father commands: Listen to him! Jesus is the model for the Beatitudes and the norm of the new law: Love one another as I have loved you. This love implies an effective offering of oneself, after his example. (CCC, n. 459)

From the Bishop

Man Becomes God

St. Paul remarks that he no longer lives, but, rather, Christ now lives in him. We refer to this earthly sharing in the divine nature as grace. Our divinization actually began as the result of the first coming of Christ, continues through our earthly life, and will be completed at Christs second coming at the end of time. Since our sharing in the divine nature already has begun, we ought to come to terms with our transformed selves. For one thing, we should rejoice in our status and glorify God through it. As St. Peter writes in his First Letter, Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood., The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#460) quotes three and you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy navenerable sources in this regard, two from the ancient tion. STEWARDSHIP OF TIME
We wish to thank the Knights of Columbus, Martha's Circle, Father Bob & Father Peter, the Deacons, Frank, Peter and Wayne, the wonderful choir and our director and all the friends who have shown such love and concern for our family when Elmer passed into eternal life. It was such a beautiful tribute and we are so grateful for everything everyone did for us.. Thank you so very much for being such a wonderful, caring community. The family of Elmer J. Mears

A Stewardship Moment
In todays Gospel we hear the prophet John the Baptist being asked a profound stewardship question: What should we do? Each group wants to know the appropriate response to Johns call; each reply points to how they should treat others. John does not simply say, Be baptized. Rather, he points them to their jobs and personal relationships. Johns message is simple: judgment is near, and repentance includes treating others well. We should be willing to share what we have with those in need. To listen to John the Baptist is to be called to account. Do I give only of my excess, or am I the good steward who is willing to sacrifice in order to help others?
Consider Making a Year-End Gift to Christ the King Parish As the end of the year approaches, we begin to reflect upon the many blessings bestowed upon us. The end of the year also provides a great opportunity to thank God for these blessings by gifting to Christ the King Parish, Religious Education or Academy. The benefits of income tax deductions, capital gains savings and other financial benefits are significant advantages that provide an incentive to make a gift at the year-end. A gift that will support Christ the King for years to come.

Keeping Christ in Christmas by Feeding the Littlest Ones

The wonderful joy we feel in December as we await the coming of the Christ child is not so joyful for the millions of children in the United States who will go hungry this Christmas. In every community in the United States where a county election commission announced the results of last months historic elections, children woke up hungry. They spent the day hungry. They went to bed hungry. In fact, more than 8 million children go to bed hungry every night (see Americas Report Card 2012: Children in the U.S. by First Focus and Save the Children). Like the Good Samaritan, good stewards do not avert their eyes from the needs of the littlest ones who suffer in our own communities and neighborhoods. They know they are called to reach out. Blessed Mother Teresa also said: If you cant feed a hundred people, then feed just one. One way to keep Christ in Christmas is to Be Christ to a hungry child.

Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a wonder at the wisdom and power of Your Father and ours. Receive my prayer as part of my service of the Lord who enlists me in God's own work for justice. Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a hunger for peace: peace in the world, peace in my home, peace in myself. Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a joy responsive to the Father's joy. I seek His will so I can serve with gladness, singing and love. Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me the joy and love and peace it is right to bring to the manger of my Lord. Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.
