This can be in essay format OR in the speech outlining method taught in class. The assignment must: 1. Be 5 to 7 pages in length, using 12pt. Times New Roman font (double-spaced in MLA essay form OR with Roman Numerals, labeled transitions, etc. if in speech form). 2. Use 3 to 5 reliable, academic sources (no About.com, Wikipedia) and cannot include long/block quotes. 3. Must have oral citations and Works Cited page if in speech form, or in-text citations and a Works Cited page if in essay form. 4. Tackle a problem & propose a solution, whether: a. Social media caused/is the problem & how to solve it OR b. A problem that existed before that social media is now solving & how 5. Include a visual aid, such as a link to a relevant video, a PowerPoint, graphic, etc. and an explanation of how relates to your topic. Some Topic Ideas: A. Find an instance where someone got in trouble at work or school for something he or she put on the Internet. Should he/she have gotten into trouble? Why? There are very few Internet laws out there, so what should the rules be for things we post online? Same as the First Amendment Rules? Just no slander and violence? Since there arent many rules about whats legal, illegal, appropriate and inappropriate online, make a guide/rule book for social media. OR B. Examine positive/negatives of social media.
